We had a good photo with a propah lobstah and Boris but thats never appeared, poor thing was always considered more desirable than a cwab but obviously times are a changing
Freaky-deaky: I went for a walk this morning and was thinking about when I’m going to be able to get my Dad and son up to Edinburgh for a Hibs game, and then thought about what we did a few times as kids, which was go early season for the tattoo and a game at ER. I then got thinking that I should show my son some pipes and drums stuff on YouTube when I got home - and stumbled across this thread.
When I was about 5-7, I used to take my Dad’s albums of that stuff up to my room and play them on my little record player. Elsewhere, punk was going on. Still absolutely love it. Must be 100 times as powerful to listen to if you’re Scottish as opposed to just being someone like me with tenuous links to the place.
I'm afraid that was me. Baz has disowned me and has threatened to burn my Liberal wooly jumper and sandals next time he see me😂 He was just as you'd imagine him to be, straight into everything and 'buldering' about. I did speak to him for 5 or 10 mins and seemed to take on board what I was saying about an issue we have as a business so we'll wait and see if there is any feedback and judge from there. Overall good to see the PM in Orkney and backing a traditional industry no matter what party it is in power.
What's his favourite cheese Karl, assume you asked?
This is where we have a bit of crossover/hypocrisy in Orkney Ted. We're Viking in heritage (proven with genectic studies) and we are definitely different to mainland Scotland in large number of ways but get the pipes going and football doing well (don't laugh) and all of a sudden we're Scottish. It's diluted a lot now as there's large number of English and mainland Scots live here now but if anyone comes to Orkney they are an 'incomer' (not a complimentary nickname) so when people say we hate the English it's a downright lie, we hate everyone non Orcadian equally! I'm the only Orcadian in my group who go to the Scotland matches and I don't wear a kilt, which they find strange, but there is no history of kilts in Orkney, its a very new 'fashion' but one of many that are common in Scotland that we haven't followed in Orkney. But I do love the pipes and drums, has to be both together
Is this where the annual Viking gathering takes place?
Glaring mistake PunteR. Due to chronic seasickness I am 100% not a fisherman! Worked in seafood basically all working life but not on a boat, if I was to describe myself as a fisherman I would be hounded out of Orkney by far more than the handful of protesters than Boris faced😂 Most diverse thread in under 20 posts though I do agree!!
Edit Although lately at Hampden we've had a solo piper starting off Flower of Scotland and as the crowd gets louder it stops playing and leaves the crowd to carry on. Works well. Amy MacDonald the singer is the best though, she is basically a fan getting up and giving it laldy with a great singing voice, really stirs everyone up

Suffering Jesus on a bicycle! Is this the ugliest team that ever lived? Every new face that pans into view is a fresh assault on the senses! As my mate once shouted at West Ham's Dowie "Do your features know the meaning of teamwork?"
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Karl, many decades ago I read 'All quiet On The Western Front' there was a chapter in the book where the German soldier was describing how for the first time in the trenches they heard this strange sound coming through the mist in the early morning from the British trenches, they way he described it was frightening, It was in fact the first time they'd been attacked by a Scottish Regiment, the pipers led the charge. The Pipers were apparently paid an extra penny per week when they were assaulting the German trenches, hardly any of them made it back to Scotland. I've been trying to research the book and the chapter with no success as yet. I served with Scottish Regiments in Libya, West Germany and Northern Ireland during the troubles, love the pipes and drums.
What was going on in Libya when you were there ted?

The British had a base/presence in Libya right up until the military coup, our Regiment were desert training out there about 80 odd miles inland from Tobruk. In essence we had an agreement with Gaddafi to pack everything up and go by early March 1970 (I think it was).
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.
I think the crabs may take offence. They are sentient beings who have to survive on the bottom and are never allowed to level up.
In any rate, it is good that a politico is visiting this part of the UK and should be commended. This is what Starmer should be doing and of course Sturgs.
