YES at the Empire pool Wembley, Topographic tour. We should have left and gone to the pub.

DREADFUL

Also Slade at Wembley, sat about 10 foot away from the speaker bank at the side of the stage, my ears have never been the same since. You get used to Tinnitus

Sting & Paul Simon the other year.
Sting was useless, and was the marvelous Paul Simon's bitch that night.

Dionne Warwick..... she should have stayed at home and not sullied all those wonderful songs.

A mate persuaded me to see Devo at the Hammesmith Odeon.

An hour or so of video on the big screen and about 20 minutes of live music. Absolute crap.

DJ Shadow @ Brixton Academy - liked the Organ Donor track but the rest of it was just not my thing at all.

Maroon 5 @ Brixton Academy - Really shit, boyband with instruments, just irritating.

Bob Dylan @ Docklands Arena - too old and past it. I love Bob Dylan BTW but this was a gig too far, nearly 20 years ago so God knows how he sounds now.

U2 at Glastonbury some years ago: way past their best and pretentious with it. Would have left to see anyone else but we were right in the middle of the pyramid stage crowd and it was rammed so it would’ve taken forever to leave the field....

Thought we done this thread a while ago? in any case It's still the dreadful Enya @ the Reading Hexagon years ago.

It was a family get together do, I lasted three songs of warbling nonsense about trees, porpoises and the Planet Pluto and thought f uck this I'm off and walked out, got a hell of a lot of earache from her indoors at the break but I refused to come back in for the second half.

Respect to me.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Mozart at the Festival Hall.

He never even showed up.
Just a big tribute band doing covers of his stuff.

Total rip off.

Bauhaus last year in Northampton. Hadn't seen them for 30 odd years back when they were at the top of their game .
Thought they were shit, the sound was shit and the venue was shit. First gig I've left when the band were still playing.

Forgot about Streisand.

Saw her at the O2, paid a pretty penny to see a 'legend' only yo have her flounce on and tell everyone she wasnt singing anything memorable as she had bad feelings about those songs.

Then proceeded to fill a 3 hour concert with her singing for 25 minutes (i fecking kid you not) songs that were not so popular and not all the way through, and filling the rest of the time with the orchestra playing, 30 minutes of a trumpet player, her daughter / son ( dont care which) singing then a duet with the son, then 30 minutes of Streisand home movies while she spent al the time sitting on a stool at stage centre.

what an utter tool.
Left after 90 minutes, and was back at my hotel before the gig had finished!

PJ Harvey at Manchester Apollo. She'd just release Let England Shake and played it from start to finish. Musically fine, but I doubt she said more than 12 words to the audience all night. 4 of those were Good Night - after the main set and the encore.

Kasabian in Nottingham were a real disappointment. Loud and badly distorted. Maccabees as support but the sound quality was equally as bad.

I was at that very same PJ Harvey gig & I thought it was great. The Manchester gig on the next tour (Victoria Warehouse) was even better.

Coincidentally, it is exactly 28 years ago today that I first saw her live (at Reading festival) and I've seen her around a dozen times since.

Got to say that if you go along to a PJ Harvey gig expecting sparkling between-song repartee then you are going to leave disppointed!

Some 70s legends:

* Mike Oldfield somewhere playing Tubular Bells - he started off and then when the sound started to build got horrible feedback - stopped the show, had a long break, started up again, same thing, apologised profusely, waited an age - by the time he came back it was much better but an awful lot of people had drifted off and we were grateful to be released (as I'm sure Oldfield was too).
* Queen around the Night of the Opera period - an utter diabolical noise, like having a gluey muddle in your ear all evening - torture. Unlike Oldfield, they played through seeming to enjoy every minute, so either it was just the acoustics of Earls Court, or my ears, or they didn't know/care - all a mystery to me
* Led Zep early 70s - aka comments on Slade earlier, so loud you really couldn't hear anything if you get my meaning, and my ears hurt for days. Lots of w*nkers in the audience also, which rather ruined it

I suspect the sound systems are much better these days!

Always wondered what it would've been like to see The Beatles live at the height of Beatlemania when by all accounts most of the audience were screaming shrieking girls: I'm sure you would've hardly heard the band play anything......

Badly Drawn Boy at the Albert Hall. Sounded like he hadn't even rehearsed or was just out of his head, went on for hours. He kept saying about what a genius he was and how he had made it but he kept having to restart songs because he kept going wrong.

Saw Fall Out Boy in Las Vegas once for something to do. They were so cliched it was almost like they were taking the piss.

Genesis at Brunel in one of their first gigs, Got about 5 minutes into Return Of The Giant Hogweed and threw the towel in. I actually went to see Hawkwind at Wembley but the support, Magic Michael was the worst act I have ever seen, they pulled the plug on him and dragged him off stage. Airborne playing the Hambrough Tavern in Southall after they won some talent show like Opportunity Knocks, we were only in there as it was our local and they always had live music but we packed it in after 2 songs and went to the John Bull in Chiswick. Flock Of Seagulls in the Golden Lion Fulham were pretty crap too.

The grass is always greener.

Yeah - my Mum and Dad saw them like that and both said it was impossible to hear a note played or word sung....just a never ending wall of screaming from start to finish. The old man was always pissed off about it.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

Maybe it was standard for her. But, going to live music requires a bit more than a note by note perfect copy of the album.
If that's all it is, why pay £35 to go, when I can sit at home listening to it on CD?

My mate took his wife to see Rush at some point in the 80s.

Some way into the gig, one of the venue's staff came over to ask my mate's wife if she would be more comfortable in the bar. She was reading a book by torchlight

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Would love to have seen the Kilburns but I guess they were chaotic. Saw Ian Dury and the Blockheads in Brighton in '79. Best gig I ever went too.
Anyway, UB40, girlie psuedo reggae rubbish. Terrible gig. Only went to see them because I got a free ticket.

Elvis Costello in Portsmouth early 80's. I don't mind Mr McManus, but he was total poop that night. Never seen him since.

Marillion. Genesis rip off band and they were bad enough.

Sting. At some festival on Clapham Common. Apart from his rendition of Roxanne the only Police song I like the rest was self indulgent, pretentious bilge.

The Nashville Teens. They played a gig at Wimbledons old Plough Lane HQ. I was one of only 4 in the audience. Should have died with the 60's.

There aint half been some clever bastards.
