Season Ticket renewals. 21:51 - Sep 2 with 26032 viewsEsox_Lucius

I was chatting on the phone tonight with Dave Thomas and we spent a long time discussing what lay ahead for us both. We are both now in the seniors category so and fans likely to be allowed back in the ground wouldn't include us, and most of the friends we have both made in many, many years whilst we have been going to W12 and around the country.
This would mean the end of our regular seats in the Upper Loft through no fault of our own and the thought of buying a season ticket whilst not being allowed in the stadium doesn't sound in the least bit attractive on a fixed income. Sitting in a stadium with just a few thousand fans who are not allowed to sing or cheer doesn't set the body tingling either and the whole issue of entry and egress, coupled with toilet breaks means it is going to be fairly unworkable.
Having had a lifelong viewpoint of don't just keep coming up with problems, come up with solutions I had a think. Foremost in my thinking is...
*The club need money to survive and season tickets form an integral part of that each season.
*I don't want to pay for something I am not going to be able to use for the foreseeable future.
*I don't want to give up my seat in the Upper Loft.
* I am not interested in swapping out my matchday ticket for a stream.
What I came up with was to permit the club to take out the direct debit as normal once they are ready to do so and offer a number of options as to what fans want to do with that season ticket.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in a reduced and managed capacity.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in the normal fashion.
Neither of the above but, for the duration of the period before normal service is resumed, each match ticket not used is credited towards the following seasons season ticket on a one for one basis.
This would allow fans who sit together to retain their group of seats and still allow the club to get much needed funding.
Thoughts?

The grass is always greener.

Don't think so, as the offy said STs had to sign up to the stream option before 4th October!

I wasn't clear enough, I meant they might not rush how we might have actual attendance at the ground. Streams need to be understood asap.

I wouldn't say season ticket holders get to access the stream for 'free'. Also, it seems that fans will be paying different amounts for the stream depending on the value of their season ticket/QPR+ package.

I think the club scrap the QPR+ package and just have a flat fee until normal attendance resumes at which point - season ticket holders will be given the option to upgrade/revert back their original season ticket for live games or remain on the streaming only option.

The benefits of this - It encourages fans to commit and guarantees access in some form to games. It also temporarily streamlines the pricing structure.

Email just arrived in saying DD coming out 1st October and would now be collected via 8 payments and not 10

The email goes on to say that more info will be forthcoming shortly about this year's season ticket

They have just reposted details about the streaming option for season ticket holders and said 'Full details will be published in due course'!

I don't like criticising the club, but in this respect they have been very poor.

some info on Stream here https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/whats-on-qpr-plus-in-september-2020/

From what I gather season ticket holders get free streams for all home games and all midweek away games. You have to pay for Saturday 3pm away games and cup games.

Also any games on Sky are not available to stream

Our games on Sky are available to stream for season ticket holders but not to purchase and stream for others. Coventry away is the first of these.

I guess that part of this perception of them being slow and being "poor" is that they are probably really struggling in how to approach this so that they piss off as few people as is possible - because piss off a good few people they will - i think it is inevitable.

So the email that arrived at 14:20 in my inbox says they are going to take money in October so they must be working on the premise that people are still going to be allowed in the ground in some capacity during October.

At this stage, I am on a 4 day week, until at least the end of the year, so on 80% pay, which hurts, but as a supporter I am going to try to stick with it as long as I can. However, if the expectation is that we will be expected to pay the full season ticket price this year on the understanding that you will get in to see some games but not others, then I am not sure if I could stomach paying £535 for that over 8 months. If they also tell me that my seat is moving from the back row at the top of the stairs to anywhere else that is not in a back row seat, then I will have to cancel my DD and refuse to renew. It's not out of principle, it's out of necessity as I cannot sit in a seat with no leg room for a season.

I think this is going to get a bit fraught over the coming days

I'm kinda with you on this Pinner, I get they can't commit to anything necessarily yet but it would be nice if we had an idea of what the club would like to happen.

Even if it was a case of a plan of...

"This is scenario A..."
"This is scenario B..."
"This is scenario C..." etc followed up with "we will confirm what will be happening when we can".

They've done the last bit publicly, and I'm sure they have plans A, B and C privately (if not more) but I would argue having a bit of visbility of that for supporters gives us an idea of what *might* happen, instead of being completely in the dark and having to guess.

That's where in fairness I think Leicester have done well - at least everyone knows up front what might be happening with their tickets, even if the actual final process and games it will apply to isn't yet known.

An arbitrary email telling me that in effect my payments have increased, when I still have no sight of what I'm paying and what for.

It's a tough time for sure, but that has wound me up a treat

I thought thought that initially but the overall cost is not going up is it.
Then I worked it out that if they are charging full price it is an extra £13 a month but you pay it over 2 months less and then hopefully then start paying for the next season.

They have not said HOW MUCH they will be taking yet and what it entitles me to - that will be the interesting bit!

I agree. yes its a lot simpler but in other sports, horseracing for example, they always tell you what will happen if for any reason the number of races on the card is reduced.

I've been umming and arring about what to do about my ST for ages but decided to just go ahead and renew, trusting the club to come up with a fair and equitable system. If that means me watching matches on stream for a while, so be it. We will get through this and will one day be back in our usual seats surrounded by our mates.

Agree. Why send out half a plan, why not wait until the whole plan is sorted.
I can't see how they are going to do a DD when NO ONE knows how many live games each person is going to be allowed. Lucky to see one in three I reckon so what will I be paying for each month?
If I'm paying more than a tenner for a stream I'm out till next season.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

I took it that they don't yet know what they're going to do and needed to buy some time by pushing back the start date of the direct debit. Agree though, was a pretty arbitrary and tone death bit of emailing.

Yes agree, but at least its communication!

On numbers, surely that's the whole point, until they set out some sort of plan with a renewal deadline they won't know how many STs holders they have, so subsequently when the exact reduced capacity IS known, they won't know if its a problem or not and how much they have to move people around.

have many other Championship clubs made it clear what they plan to do?Whilst I agree they should be saying something about Season Tickets I'm not sure how clear they can be at the moment when the club have no real idea how many people can attend and when they can attend.

Agree - but my point still remains until they have the number of ST holders, they won't know if they have a problem or not!

As a side issue, they are surely just making life difficult for themselves re the streaming, if, as looks like it, they are not going to release anything until next week, there is going to be a whole raft of ST holders to get on the stream in a few days.

Surely they just have to lay out what they DO know - maximum number of games available on stream , maximum number of games available live - state it will very likely be a mix of both - set the price, I would go normal prices and say refunds will be dealt with at the end of the season when the number of games actually available live will be known.

None of that needs EFL/FA or government approval - not too difficult surely?

PS Just looked at Cardiff City at random and they are going ahead as normal - early bird renewal date was set early August, says priority given to ST holders if reduced capacity and no refunds if games available stream only. They had 19,000 STs sold early August.

Now we may not agree with the policy, but at least they have one and know how many ST holders they have - we don't and don't!

number of games you can see live will be down to the government, no one has a clue on that yet.

I thought they announced the streaming stuff last week?

Season Ticket holders get all home games and midweek away games until crowds are back to full capacity.

Non Season ticket holders can buy a stream at £10 a game

Yes, Good stuff, eventually, securing existing seats for 21/22 season is exactly the right thing to do, it takes away a primary concern.

now they can forge ahead with match ticket ballots for those that have renewed before the deadline and for those that dont fancy ending up in random areas of the ground during restrictions they dont need to apply and i imagine will receive pro-rata credits against next season or a end of season refund after streaming deductions are made

???? - I know all that Dave - that's what I said above!

Stream option will only be until/if full capacity allowed though - it won't be either/or if/when we get back to 'normal'
