Season Ticket renewals. 21:51 - Sep 2 with 26027 viewsEsox_Lucius

I was chatting on the phone tonight with Dave Thomas and we spent a long time discussing what lay ahead for us both. We are both now in the seniors category so and fans likely to be allowed back in the ground wouldn't include us, and most of the friends we have both made in many, many years whilst we have been going to W12 and around the country.
This would mean the end of our regular seats in the Upper Loft through no fault of our own and the thought of buying a season ticket whilst not being allowed in the stadium doesn't sound in the least bit attractive on a fixed income. Sitting in a stadium with just a few thousand fans who are not allowed to sing or cheer doesn't set the body tingling either and the whole issue of entry and egress, coupled with toilet breaks means it is going to be fairly unworkable.
Having had a lifelong viewpoint of don't just keep coming up with problems, come up with solutions I had a think. Foremost in my thinking is...
*The club need money to survive and season tickets form an integral part of that each season.
*I don't want to pay for something I am not going to be able to use for the foreseeable future.
*I don't want to give up my seat in the Upper Loft.
* I am not interested in swapping out my matchday ticket for a stream.
What I came up with was to permit the club to take out the direct debit as normal once they are ready to do so and offer a number of options as to what fans want to do with that season ticket.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in a reduced and managed capacity.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in the normal fashion.
Neither of the above but, for the duration of the period before normal service is resumed, each match ticket not used is credited towards the following seasons season ticket on a one for one basis.
This would allow fans who sit together to retain their group of seats and still allow the club to get much needed funding.
Thoughts?

The grass is always greener.

Sadly I am a single person no others in my bubble so am automatically bottom of every ballot this in spite of being a 20+ year season ticket holder. I have emailed the club asking does it seem fair that a 2 new season ticket holders who purchase on 2nd October hence having missed the first 2 games will get priority over myself. Another issue no one has mentioned yet is the different levels of season ticket prices as surely financially it's in the club's interest to prioritize platinum over Bronze for attendance

They are not accepting new season tickets it's only renewals at the moment.

I think if you miss out on one match you'll get a ticket for the following one whether you have a bubble or not

To be fair, as you usually are Dave!, the EFL can only give as much notice as the government gives them - which they did apologise for.

I just found it amusing that of all the stadiums they could pick they went with the least equipped one in Luton to do the trial which they were never going to be able to do with a few days notice

Yes I understand that. But I could still claim for the other 11 games that I didn't enter the ballot for.

As I've said, I'm not planning to do this. I'm just pointing out a loophole.

I know your not planning to do it but if you did then, I think they could come to a view that you were 'abusing the system' and were not being a 'well intentioned supporter' and be justified in refusing a refund under the terms of the offer.

The 'rule of six' allows you to socialise or meet with up to five others from numerous households.

So if you are prepared to do that you could arrange to sit with any 'friends' etc and form a 'bubble'.

they did say last week a bubble would be with just one other household but that was subject to change

My understanding is:
The government has 'simplified the rules' and the rule of six (with exceptions e.g family who live together, weddings etc) is the only one which is now legally relevant.

BUT they also clearly, and obviously, said it doesn't apply to organised team sports.

And as they are allowing fan trials to continue, clearly the rule of 6 does NOT apply when attending such events.

I would have to know my QPR 'friends' name address and members number to do that . I only see these people at games . Just as a suppose what happens if this continues into another season will the same rule be in place therefore giving priority to those who chose not to renew this season

Yeah, not right, looks like I shouldn't have bothered letting it auto renew as I go on my own.
On another note, as I can't be bothered to trawl through the offish, as I can't make the Preston game anyway, do I not bother with the ballot, or enter and hope I don't win?

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

It's a midweek game so many will opt not to be in ballot so you will probably win

2 of my boys live in Zurich and are season ticket holders . It doesnt say how long in advance the ballot will take place . It will make it a bit difficult to get a cheap flight if you dont get much notice . Mrs Taxiboy would be attending in their place anyhow at the moment as they wont be able to isolate .

" or enter and hope I don't win?"

That's like the gag about being conflicted over eye tests. "I want to get the answers right, but I also want to win the glasses".

I presume that when they referred to team sports, they were saying you could still have, for example, a team of eleven.

I don't see how if you can go to the pub with five friends from multiple households that you can't sit in a football stadium, with the same friends or indeed different ones as long as the group isn't larger than six.

Same result if you enter and don't win as if you don't bother to enter - you get your money back.

Only caveat is that you must enter 12 ballots.

Given the numbers, as has been said a few times now, high probability that if you enter ballot you will get entry, if you don't even higher probability that you will get in the next time you do.

Have to say some of the criticism on here is on a par with Hoos/Warburton's re the resumption of 19/20 - a bit ott and not really looking at the bigger picture.

Possibly but I'm not sure the rule of 6 has to be applied in stadia - how can it be if 1 -2,000 allowed in - social distancing yes, possibly masks, but not how many people you can go with?

Actually it'll be 11 ballots, the Forest and Boro games can't be counted as there won't be ballots for them.

I suspect single ticket holders could be ok, there will be gaps that can be filled by ones and twos around the place. I'm sure they will get as many in as they can.

Good point, and I should have added for those that haven't read it, if you enter, are successful, but don't go then you don't get your money back.

The full rules (as they stand) can be found here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-meeting-with-oth

My interpretation is that people are allowed to form family groups or "support bubbles" that should not consist of greater than 6 people, when meeting indoors or outdoors. These are meant to be groupings of people who cannot realistically social distance from each other, due to circumstances like living together, or providing essential physical or emotional support. These "bubbles" are expected to follow social distancing rules from other "bubbles" or individuals but can mix among themselves.

Also in the link above is a section entitled "Rules in other venues and activities", and although football stadia are not listed yet it does say that "venues following COVID-19 secure guidlines will be able to host more people in total, but no one should mix in a group greater than 6.

I read all of this to be that when we are allowed back in, any individuals or "bubbles" will have to be isolated from each other by the usual 2m or more, meaning that people in a bubble can sit next to other members of that bubble but around each bubble there will be a ring of empty seats.

One other thing of note, I don't think we are meant to form ourselves into "QPR bubbles". It says on the official site "you are reminded of the importance of adhering to all government guidelines regarding who is permitted within your social bubble.

Fair enough, but not sure in a crowd of 5,000 you are going to avoid 'mixing' with more than 6 people, or if you are on your own, mixing with no one - not going to happen is it?

Even IF and its a massive IF, you could stagger entry, you certainly can't stagger exit very easily without peeing off a lot of people!

I agree getting in, out and in fact there and back might be the biggest problem. It's in our interest to make it work though or they'll just shut it down again.

no different than shopping in tesco, getting on a train, going to work or to a restaurant. You will come into contact with other people but you are being asked to keep your distance from them which is possible even in a football stadium, rather than all pushing and shoving to the exit you just leave a bit of space and walk out, you'd hope that people are not stupid and would try and do the right thing

Hoos said that if there was a family group of eight, then they would seat them four in one row and the rest in the four seats directly behind. Therefore, they effectively 'save a row' ad get more people in.

You don't get 5,000 people all wanting to buy the same product at 3.00pm on a Saturday and they don't all want to leave the store at exactly the same time afterwards - so sorry Dave - NOTHING like shopping at Tesco!

not too mention, half time beverages and toilets

I just cant see 5000 being accommodated "safely" at QPR maybe 2500 or so at a push

Also the argument "if people are sensible" doesn't hold because so many people are not sensible or simply refuse to follow the rules
