Season Ticket renewals. 21:51 - Sep 2 with 26396 viewsEsox_Lucius

I was chatting on the phone tonight with Dave Thomas and we spent a long time discussing what lay ahead for us both. We are both now in the seniors category so and fans likely to be allowed back in the ground wouldn't include us, and most of the friends we have both made in many, many years whilst we have been going to W12 and around the country.
This would mean the end of our regular seats in the Upper Loft through no fault of our own and the thought of buying a season ticket whilst not being allowed in the stadium doesn't sound in the least bit attractive on a fixed income. Sitting in a stadium with just a few thousand fans who are not allowed to sing or cheer doesn't set the body tingling either and the whole issue of entry and egress, coupled with toilet breaks means it is going to be fairly unworkable.
Having had a lifelong viewpoint of don't just keep coming up with problems, come up with solutions I had a think. Foremost in my thinking is...
*The club need money to survive and season tickets form an integral part of that each season.
*I don't want to pay for something I am not going to be able to use for the foreseeable future.
*I don't want to give up my seat in the Upper Loft.
* I am not interested in swapping out my matchday ticket for a stream.
What I came up with was to permit the club to take out the direct debit as normal once they are ready to do so and offer a number of options as to what fans want to do with that season ticket.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in a reduced and managed capacity.
Redeem it with a stream for home and away matches until such a time as fans are allowed back into the stadium in the normal fashion.
Neither of the above but, for the duration of the period before normal service is resumed, each match ticket not used is credited towards the following seasons season ticket on a one for one basis.
This would allow fans who sit together to retain their group of seats and still allow the club to get much needed funding.
Thoughts?

The grass is always greener.

not too mention, half time beverages and toilets

I just cant see 5000 being accommodated "safely" at QPR maybe 2500 or so at a push

Also the argument "if people are sensible" doesn't hold because so many people are not sensible or simply refuse to follow the rules

If they are all in one stand then yeah thats a nightmare but I very much doubt they will have food and drink on sale at half time.

If you have 5,000 in the stadium you could split it with around 600 in each stand (Lower Loft, Upper Loft, east & West Paddocks, SA Road, Ellerslie, School end lower and upper) which should be manageable

You don't get 5,000 people all wanting to buy the same product at 3.00pm on a Saturday and they don't all want to leave the store at exactly the same time afterwards - so sorry Dave - NOTHING like shopping at Tesco!

no different in terms of there will be other people outside your household there who you could come into contact with but probably won't if you stay away from them

Dave, when I go to my local Sainsbury at 8.00am - I can easily 'keep away' from everyone else in the store, to say that is comparable with KPFS on a matchday is laughable - sorry mate!

fair enough, I wasn't suggesting it was exactly the same just that shopping, going on trains, going to work etc are all situations where you could come into contact with other people but you have to find a way to not do that and it will be the same at a football match. There will have to be a degree of common sense from people who go you can't all walk out at the same time, you might need to queue to leave and take your time maybe be held back after the game like the old days whilst they stagger people going.

Perhaps a better comparison would be I recently went to Paultons Park, was bloody packed but queuing for every ride with the kids we were a good meter away from other people, same entering and leaving, everyone understood what they had to do and just got on with it to ensure the place stayed open

Fair enough Dave. I'm the biggest fan of sport and one the great sceptics/critic of media coverage of Covid, but it DOES strike me as strange when the Home Secretary says two families of 4 meeting and having a chat on the way to the park is 'illegal' but turning up in our thousands at KPFS isn't?

I guess that's for another thread. All the club can do is come up with a plan that is in line with the guidelines and see where that takes us - as I said above, I think the situation may be totally different by mid October so this whole discussion is likely to be irrelevant anyway!

All the best

the mistake you made there was trying to make sense of what the government have said, more holes than our defence

Careful Dave. Making fun of our defence could get you into similar trouble with Warbs as “Overdraft” Clive.

With the Gove announcement this morning on pausing the crowd return pilots. Probably going to be getting more complicated on the 50% rule for ballots applying for live games and refunds etc.
I know the club want to retain revenue as best they can from season ticket sales and getting people in. I don't know why they dont just say if games continue behind closed doors that you get a refund on the difference between the season ticket cost per seat and the price of the stream (£10), this could be scaled appropriately for concessions etc. Better that some revenue is retained, rather than if no attendance is allowed all season and they will have to refund the total season ticket. Applying a 50% rule before refunds are paid may never come to pass and it could mean less season tickets are cashed in before 2 October.

That may work for you, but what about families with more than one ST per household?

I sit in Silver and my price per game (before concessions) is just over £20, so the £10 per stream is almost 50% of my normal cost - do I get 50% of the value watching a game with no atmosphere on a screen at home? - NO

Also hopefully the club do get some "walk up" revenue, for a start there is no limit on the number of away fans who can buy a "ticket" and they also save of travel in both cost and time not having to take almost a whole day out just to watch an away game.

I'm not sure we get any away fan revenue on streams. They buy it through their own club's website and I believe they keep the takings.

That may be true, but even if it is it will work both ways - we can potentially sell more away tickets and keep the revenue

Only midweek away matches are included in the season ticket deal, so yes we get revenue from season ticket holders if they decide to purchase weekend away matches. However, that has no impact on the potential income (or loss of) from season tickets.

I was thinking of the non ST fans, a lot more of them should be able to see matches when they couldn't normally.

However, I agree there are going to be big losses

As a complete aside, I went to a football game on Tuesday, to see my local team Walthamstow FC in the FA Cup first round. It was 0-0 and went straight to pens. Felt alive for 2 hours.

But I was chatting to my mate and mentioned Grandad at QPR. Guy stood next to me goes "Grandad? Guy with the sombrero and the rattle?". Turned out the fella was the steward at the KPF who looks after the disabled away fans. How small is the world eh

I’m hoping to go to my first live game since the Birmingham game on Saturday.A couple of pints before,or during the game.I just need to be one of the first 600 through the gate at Needham Market v Stratford.
I don’t expect I’ll be meeting any other R’s fans though.

Latest info from the club says that I need to download the covid track and trace app on my phone before I can get in.Bad news is that I tried to download it but I need to be on IOS 13.5 and I’m only on 12.4 on my smartphone.

No, it has made me realise how much I love going.

Seeing football on the TV is at least a step forward from what we had. If we lose that again it will be a step back in the same way.

I'm still watching all the Championship, but it's more to inform the writing of this site than for pleasure.

Can't remember the last time I watched a Premier League game all the way through. The combination of no crowd and VAR makes it completely unbearable.

Don't have Sky, so not seen many but the Leicester game on the BBC was a decent match - especially for one involving Burnley.

On the VAR side the bloke who really gets me is now Mr Lineker - spent all of the season before it came in by 'analysing' every debateable decision with 'If only we had VAR'.

FIFA even persuaded the BBC to send him to interview one of the top guys at FIFA for a ridiculously easy going interview about VAR and now........... he 'analyses' every debateable decision by having a pop at VAR - now, like you, I'm with him now, but a little 'That hasn't worked as I thought' might not go amiss!

Some of us saw this coming ......it wasn't that difficult.

I not losing interest in going to HQ or watching us on streams, however it is inevitable that some will lose the habit and attendances in the future will be down.

It might be worth the clubs coming up with a streaming season ticket which works out at something less than a £10 a game (maybe £199 which would work out at less than a £5 a game for the rest of the season). One way to make some money and keep fans interested.

Apart from the years we were in I've always enjoyed watching the Prem like a box set, no real emotional link and if i miss an episode I can always catch up the following week. I've watched the Palace v United, Wolves v City and Chelsea v Liverpool so far which were all pretty good but just so weird without the crowd, i still can't get used it
