Far too open with full backs playing like Wing Backs. Would a third centre back at the expense of one of the two DMs work better?

We played it towards the end of last season and I think it could work as it allows Manning and Kane/Kakay to play as Wing Backs rather than ridiculously high full backs.

Actually, sod it, let's just go with one at the back, eh?

Can we go out yet?

I kind of get the feeling we are often going with one at the back!

Personally I would play a much flatter back 4, have a sweeper ahead of them, then 4 across the middle with 2 wingers who can track back and one up front.

Never knowingly right.

A Sweeper plays behind a back four 'to sweep up anything that gets past the defence'. You are describing a Defensive Midfielder.

Davie, you mean like Grant Hall a couple of years ago when he drops back when we HAVE the ball? That's a bit different to a traditional defensive midfielder to me, but might work if our wingbacks are going to push on

I think that Kakay actually played in the back 3 towards the end of last season. Did quite well too.

Play to our strengths: the 0-5-5 formation.

With a rush goalie.

Good point Davie. My bad but thinking about it

1-4-4-1 may be best suited given what seems to happen with the sweeper, as you say behind the back 4.

Never knowingly right.

My understanding of sweeper is that they drop in behind to clear up but bring the ball out of defence. So they kind of alternate between being in front of and behind the back four.

It's Warbsball so I think we will have to get used to it, for better or for worse.

Too late now as should have been tested pre season but I would love to see:

Kelly
Dickie Masterson Barbet
Kakay Ball Manning
Carrol Chair
Bos Dykes

Doesn't show in my post but 3 at the back, wing backs, holding CM with LTC and Chair in front and a front two of BOS and Dykes.

Or

------------- Kelly
Kakay Dickie Masterson Barbet
--------------Ball
BOS Chair Carroll Manning
-------------Dykes

Possibly ask Barbet to play LB with Manning left wing. Then you have Barbet, Manning and Carroll, all left footed on the left and Kakay, Chair and BOS all right footed on the right. Ball as defensive midfielder behind Chair and Carroll and protecting Dickie and Masterson.

Dykes of course uses both feet.

Never knowingly right.

Kakay Ball Carroll
BOS Chair Manning
Dykes
