But as I've said before, most footballers NEVER get to play in front of a paying crowd, and it doesn't necessarily affect their performance. I played for my University team in front of zero spectators (at Harlington, as it happens), and everyone gave their all - including the bastard referee who booked me for asking him a question. Football will carry on, with us watching on the streams. And eventually we will get back in. And everything will be alright again.

Fair point, Glory. I played for years up to the level of Sligo Rovers u19s (not nose-bleed heights by any means) in front of 'one man and his dog' and it didn't affect performances. However, I think one key word missing from is 'professional'. These lads ARE used to being in front of noisy fans and it does affect them - Warburton pretty much said so in his interview. Also, I think Clive may be talking as much about the camaraderie among fans that is now missing, as much as about the games themselves. Like I say to the kids sitting front of me all wearing masks, hopefully it will just be this one year and we will look back on it one day and - if not exactly laugh, too many tragedies for that - marvel at what we went through.

One or two played better with no fans . Lumley , who had been getting criticism and Kakay who had just broken into the team for example .

Normally read them on the train on my way into the C&S, so it feels weird reading it at home waiting for the live stream to start. Hope we can get off to a good start today but fear our defence will struggle against Florist. Would certainly settle for a draw.

Agreed. Hopefully when the fans do get back they will keep this mind and give Lumley a break. Although that won't save him from Twitter of course. As Warburton said, still a kid in goalkeeping terms
