Manning and BOS 20:36 - Sep 12 with 4139 viewsMyke

BOS played today and Manning was omitted altogether. According to WLS, the reason Warburton gave for this is that their contract negotiations are at 'different stages'. We know that Manning has a new agent, who, up until very recently at least, hadn't met with the QPR officials yet. We also understand that BOS's agent is a bit of a.. difficult person to deal with and may be trying to tout BOS to any available suitor.
So what do we read from today?
(A) Manning is close to leaving, while BOS is still up in the air?
(B) BOS is close to signing a new deal, while Manning is still up in the air?
Any thoughts?

What I read from today is that the squad and the coaching are much more important than individual players. Anything else regarding contracts is just guesswork outside the boardroom and I trust those in charge to make the right calls regarding these two.

Sorry I should have been more specific: I meant what are people's thoughts on the the two players current contract situations, not thoughts on 'life, the universe and everything'

Poll: Where will Clive put QPR in his new season preview

I would say the truth is we have a replacement for Manning who is played well in pre-season, that's Wallace. Who proved his worth again today.

Whereas we do not have the direct replacement in for BOS, rumoured to be Jordon Jones. Hence BOS plays. We could have used Thomas instead of BOS, but he's not 100% fit yet. Or Smyth, but he is not 100% proven to Warbs. So, BOS is allowed to play ... this time.

zzzzzzzzzz

In Clive's interview, Warbs said that he only wants players who want to play for the club - if they don't want to sign contracts, then they won't get picked for the team. Then he said, I'm not talking about Bright and Manning

I'm past caring!

Leave Warburton to select the side he wants. I trust his selections more than I have any of our managers for decades.

If either/both want to sign new contracts, great. If they don't. goodbye.

Manning an average Championship player, can do a job but not exceptional, we have other options to fill his role. Think he will go for an acceptable fee. BOS is a very exciting player, when he is on his game, which I thought he was today. Best to keep him in the shop window and at the same time get him to deliver. Warburton knows what he is doing, get the most out of BOS while he is with us, probably be sold at a relatively good price towards the end of the current transfer window.

After conceding three at Plymouth, and being a bit tetchy in his interview with Clive, warbs made the sensible decision to play Wallace at left back. He won't go galavanting off upfield, and Cameron can park in front of the back four, adding a bit of solidity. Good job

It's very easy to say fu manning after a great win. We don't need him etc. Let's see how this plays out. I'd love to see him stay.

I think Bright is absolutely unplayable, he'll be off. For as long as he's with us, though, and he's still giving 100%, pick him.

Manning just doesn't ever look like he's absolutely 100% committed nowadays. Fine margins and all that. Not that he isn't trying, but perhaps not as happy as before. You damn well need your full backs to be 100% committed defensively to have any hope. Wallace, he'll always keep fighting with everything he has. I can take him or leave him (Manning). It's nice having a skilful fullback, but i'm not convinced defensively, so he could end up doing more harm than good, certainly if his heart isn't in it.

So today, i think Warburton got it right.

If Manning has only just got a new agent then that might explain a few things. I've not seen any transfer rumours around, so obviously he is still just getting settled ;)

I do like Manning but his position in the current system is not that clear, while for BOS it is.

We only want players who want to be here and commit to the club.
But I'm not talking about Bright and Ryan, they've been great.
But also Ryan has been left out this weekend because of contract negotiations and we have to commit to players that commit to us.
But I'm not talking about Ryan because we have a great relationship and no problem at all with Ryan.

I think if you leave a player out for not renewing the only way back is if they sign so by that logic I think the club believe Manning will sign if pushed as he has very few other options and a year on the bench is not going to help him get a premier league move, they also have Wallace to come in and replace him so the team wasn't going to be significantly weakened.

Bright is more likely to move imo so keeping him in the shop window playing well helps the team and helps his chances of getting the move he wants, if he is still here after the window shuts will be interesting to see what Warbuton does with him.

Of course we could just be reading to much into it and he just changed the team as Manning wasn't playing well at left back

I think if your last paragraph was the situation, he would have been on the bench though.

I am starting to get the feeling that the club aren't that pushed to sell either. There may well be some negotiations going on behind the scenes committing them to a 2 year contract with the idea of selling it into both players that if they put their heads down this season and work hard £4-5m bids may turn into £10m+ bids at the end of this season. That may ultimately suit all parties and may well be what they are trying to sell both players and their management at the moment.

Never knowingly right.

"We have to have a left back who is under contract. I'm not talking about Ryan, but if your left back was stalling on a contract, you'd leave him out until it was sorted. Nothing to do with Ryan though, he's not a minute's problem. Not Ryan."

It's just his agent that's a pain in the arse!
