Obviously very young and still at school and my mate who was around 16 and went on to be a famous actor asked a stunning gal for a dance who must have been about 22 -23 years old and she said "I do not dance with babies" and he replied "I am so sorry - I did not realise you were having one"!

I have since remembered Jimi Hendrix at The Farx in Souhall, The Nice at the same venue and I used to sit on the wall outside and listen to Deep Purple rehearse in the bass players garage. What bands did you see before they became famous. on 23:27 - Sep 22 with 3434 views | gobbles | I saw Coldplay third on the bill at the Astoria once in about 2000. I also saw Ed Sheeran in a side tent at Reading, although left early due to the rather drab sound and the amount of teenagers that had crowded the place. Further back I saw The Proclaimers third on the bill to The Pogues in Finsbury Park. I also saw Muse as a support act at the Astoria and was instantly hooked

Thom Yorke also at Exeter a few years later but pre-Radiohead. Chris Rea supporting a Canadian rock band called Saga in Hammersmith around 1983. Hah! One of my tropes (is it?) or catchphrase, when some someone mentions U2, ah the second most over rated band in the world... The answer to the begged question is in that gig... Me, The Proclaimers, supporting the Housemartins Kilburn National Vapors Supporting The Jam, Rainbow Pogue Mahone Wolverhampton Poly, St Patrick's Night 5p a pint Guinness promotion - absolutely as mad as it sounds!

I saw Prodigy at a Raindance in a warehouse in Cambridge before Charly was released. I thought Keith was just some punter who had jumped on stage in a Marceau Marceau mime outfit. Great night, Zero B played as well. I saw Rage Against The Machine support Suicidal Tendencies at Kilburn and instantly was hooked from the first chord. They were actually better than Suicidal that night which was incredible enough in its self. Also saw Kula Shaker at the Dublin Castle the night before they signed for Sony. I thought the lead singer looked a bit familiar, only to leave work the next night and bump into them standing outside Sony on Great Marlborough Street and say 'Great gig last night', 'Thanks Mark, how are you?' replied Crispian. It was only then I realised we went to six form college together! Nice bloke, he used to spend his lunchtimes at Peter Green's house round the corner, rendering him suitably useless for the afternoon!

Mate, One of my favourite bands Blancmange . Seen them many, many times over the years. I'm amazed no-one on this thread has said the Sex Pistols at the LesserlFree Trade hall, 1976. I estimate one in five people i've ever met have told me they were there!

Was an avid NME reader in those days and it was that which must have alerted me to the gig.
