As on several other threads our strikers seem to be getting quite a bit of flack for not being Wells and Hugill. Dykes is adjusting to this level, as is Bonne. Neither of the 'senior' strikers have much experience at this level. Kelman and Alfa have practically no experience at all, let alone in this division.

It is slightly alarming me that Warbs feels Dykes is ready to play a lone striker role, or Bonne. When we had Goddard and Allen they were paired up in an attacking team. They formed a very good bond quickly and that lack of experience was made up for by their raw talent and reliance on each other, We have to do the same here with these 4 strikers. Pair them up. Their confidence will grow as opposed to continuing to play them as lone strikers, because if we don't get the results their confidence will really drop.

Never knowingly right.

I think we've looked awful every time we've played 2 strikers

Dykes is suited to the one up front role its just we're not utilising him as well as Scotland do as Scotland have runners who go past Dykes which we don't seem to do

They also have players that run at the defence and move the ball quickly so that he's not always static with his back to goal.

I'd love so see us moving the ball quicker and players making themselves availabie.

In fairness, Scotland are probably better than QPR.

One up top is the norm in football today. One up top being stranded and struggling on scraps is not the norm in football today.

If you play 2 up front you either have to drop Bright and go 3-5-2 or drop Chair and go 4-4-2

The current Scotland squad is far better than it's been for a long time. Fairly shit by European standards but way better than most of the squads over the last 20 years.

Dykes has Scott McTominay & Ryan Christie running in from behind him & overlapping & Ryan Fraser running off him. They're all constantly on the move and when it clicks it's hard to defend against.

QPR tend to slow down during build-up play. I think that's the big difference.

bit if a tough comparison, if Dykes and Bonne turn out to have a quarter of the ability of Allen and Goddard I will be delighted, not to mention the comparative quality of the squads

I do think 2 up front could be beneficial though certainly at home

I’d like to see Chair pass the ball to the strikers whoever they are. Dykes especially . Adel was a selfish player but he put some delightful defence splitting balls through to the strikers. Chair doesn’t seem to want to give the ball to anyone ahead of him.
Tin hat on waiting for the “but that was a great goal he scored against Millwall” but as a team we need to score more goals.

Strong and stable my arse.

Agreed, Dykes looks like he'd be twice the player with somebody nearby.

I appreciate that Kelman is young and inexperienced, but I’d be interested to see 90 mins of 442 with Kelman and Dykes up front together.

Dykes needs someone to run off of his flick-one and hold up play and Kelman strikes me as being precocious enough to have a go.

Why?

I'd consider (against popular advice) going 3 at the back, pushing Barbet out to LB, giving Kane a try further forward, and playing Chair in surely his best position as a 10 in the hole.

Dieng

Kakay Dickie/Masterson Barbet

Kane/Carroll Ball
BOS Willock
Chair
Dykes Kelman

The software's just concertina'd my pretty shape, but I guess it's a 3-4-1-2.

We don't have the midfield to cope with two up front. We're getting over-run as it is.

We don't have the midfield full stop

Having the joy of watching in the ground today, to me the main problem is in the centre of midfield, we don't have enough quality to cope and there is just a massive gap there, Caroll who was good in the first half, but as game went on he and Cameron were less effective. When we pump the ball up to Dykes he is totally isolated and has nothing much to lay off to. This game was heading for a 0-0, but Reading made a couple of changes like bringing on Olisi, who did strike that goal well, but we did back off him allowing him opportunity to strike. If Chair's shot had not hit post and gone in, sure that would have sealed the game. We concede easy goals, make hard work of scoring and both to me seems to affect players confidence and their heads drop too easily.

As its QPR I am not totally sure we would have won if Chair had scored. Chances are we would have sat back and Reading would have woken up and attacked our fragile defence.

Might have got a draw though...

Not entirely sure you have to drop Bright, but frankly with his current attitude and the fact he's clearly marking time and not really doing very much at the moment, this may not be a bad idea.

If he thinks it's the way to a dream move to a PL side I reckon he's very much mistaken, but time will tell.

Certainly worth 2 up top to change things around and give support to our striker, were not exactly raining goals currently but we are conceding a fair few anyway

I just don't see how 2 up front will solve all of our problems, if we had 2 really good strikers i might agree but we don't.

Surely Adomah has something to offer in a front two,

Still has enough pace, is skillful and decent with both feet, and has played well in a similar position against us in recent seasons, has to be worth a go.

I think it's worth a look, not saying it's the catch all answer.

We're in a dog fight now, and BOS doesn't seem interested anyway

Bottom line, not mobile enough in midfield to play 4-4-2 for 90 minutes , dont have the wingbacks to play 3-5-2

If we were to play 2 up top one of them would have to be BOS which I would not be averse to, but we would have to play one winger and one of carroll or chair tucked in other wise we would get torn apart

I think BOS has looked lost when played up front.

I'm not saying he couldn't be a forward, I'm not saying that, (I'm doing this in a Peter Cook voice for some reason), I've got nothing against him being a striker etc etc.

Four challenges there, though.

1) His finishing needs work
2) He doesn't look up to bring others into play
3) We have no time to coach this into him on the training ground (fixtures coming thick and fast etc)
4) Who provides the width?

4)
