Just been reading the Sheldon Report - QPR involvement 23:48 - Mar 29 with 1563 viewsAntti_Heinola

Not sure if it's been mentioned on here, but there's a sizeable chunk about our former head of youth, Chris Gieler in the Sheldon Report. While not on the scale of Bennell/Higgins, there are nevertheless some serioud and disturbing allegations. As well as a lot of innuendo and rumours about Gieler, it a specific complaint was made direct to David Bulstrode in the late 80s about abuse, which he took seriously enough to personally visit the boy's home, but the investigation seems not to have gone anywhere, with Gieler's solicitors writing a strong letter to Bulstrode in response to it.

I had heard these rumours 4 years ago but didn't post on here because it was only rumours and at an investigative stage.

Olly was interviewed for the Report - he states he never liked Gieler, that had GF known of any accusations in the 90s he basically would have been physically violent with Gieler, and then when he became manager in 2001, he sacked Gieler, although the reason is not given and Olly says he didn't hear of any accusations of child abuse.

Gieler died in 2002 and the club did not commemmorate his death (I remember Gallen praising him highly in the 90s when he broke through, but do not recall his death).

Most of the section has people talking about him as an oddball in a wig, but there are quite a few allegations dating back to the 70s through to the late 80s. QPR co-operated fully with Sheldon and the investigation.

Bare bones.

I heard these rumours about him nearly 30 years ago. Trouble is these could be not be substantiated. I remember walking into a restaurant in about '96 where he was dining with a young player but what does that mean?

I think the main reason he went in the early 200's was the state of the academy, Holloway was vocal at the time about big contracts given out to young players by Gieler and them not being anywhere near good enough.

I remember he was really highly thought of at the time when Gallen, Quashie, Dichio and Mark Perry came through the ranks. It did seem odd at the time he died that no one from the club said anything about him or tried to celebrate him, pretty sure there was some anger at the club at the time for not doing anything but this report probably explains why.

I read a few years back when this first came out a few accusations towards him which sounded horrible. I've not read the report but imagine they are covered in it

His role seems an odd one. I always assumed he was a coach - like you Dave, I vividly remember Gallen especially talking him up when that batch fond its way to the first team - but he wasn't a coach at all. He was a talent spotter, pretty much, and according to the report was very much his own man running the youth system, responsible only to the manager and the chairman.
Ollie says in the report that yes not good young players had been given huge contracts, but he also says he disliked him when he was playing for us.

Bare bones.
