Hmm, get he wants first team football but ain't we an injury to CA or Dykes away from disaster?

Ramkilde,Kellman,Armstrong and Lloyd are some options with perhaps Uncle playing some part.

Things have stalled for him since leaving Orient a couple of seasons ago and he needs to find the right level to get going again.

I’d be surprised if we don’t sign a striker now.

One of our directors is a massive Ipswich fan.

I shall seek his opinion after a few games as he's no bullshit.

I hope he does well for them.

(He did also say we are f'kin shit last week)

Yeah, that's going to cut it in the championship.
Must be a striker in the pipeline surely.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

It's a strange one. The few Charlton fans I know were relieved to be rid of him and for nearly £2m too if rumours were true.

Did/does Warburton see him as a long term prospect or did he see him as leading the line, possibly with Dykes, and it hasn't worked out?

Regardless, if it hasn't worked out and he doesn't come back its wasted money from the Eze transfer that we can ill afford.

We've not been linked to too many strikers in this window. If there is one in the pipeline it's likely to be a surprise.

As long as one of Austin, Dykes or Kelman is fit, I'd imagine we'll play Willock as a second striker or even Uncs if the formation needs it. On the off chance that all 3 can't play and we don't fancy promoting someone like Ramkilde or Alfa or whichever other youngster, I still think we'd be ok shifting Willock central

If we play two up top we are seriously light on strikers now. Has to be someone coming in.

Smells like a trout farm in here

This is a good move for both Bonne and the club and probably part of the longer-term strategy? Buy him and settle him in last season, loan him out this year to develop and then enjoy the rewards next year when we sell Dykes… I’m not saying in my opinion this will play out, but surely that’s the strategy and I’m glad we appear to have a conveyer belt of strikers now.

Kelman’s turn next.

Regarding striker options, we are set up to play with one up top anyway (generally) and if Austin *AND* Dykes get injured, we might be able to re-call Bonne? I also agree with the previous post re Uncs being able to do a job up top (nurturing Kelman) of push came to shove.

I'd be very surprised if we sign a striker. Kelman had moved above Bonne in the pecking order towards the end of last season, and Warbs plays a system that can easily be adapted to one up front. Cannot see the remotest chance he'll bring in another striker, when money (that we haven't got) needs to be spent elsewhere.

Bare bones.

Agreed. Horses for courses but we've sometimes/often looked better for adding a midfielder when Chaz has puffed out too.

This is not dissimilar to the tough questions of centre back cover. Could be left short if very bad luck strikes, would be nice to be insured against it in a perfect world, but must cut cloth and find a way for project players we've invested in not to go to waste further down the line.

According to Sean Gallagher we wouldn't entertain suggestions of a permanent sale so evidently there's still belief in Bonne. He obviously wasn't signed with the intention of a senior player (let alone club figurehead) coming in over his head, but that's how it's turned out. I wasn't too hot on the signing on the whole but it's not a told-you-so situation, you can see there's something there and the logic to the punt. Bit of a Smyth situation where a non-academy player is a natural savant at certain prized aspects and lacking in more general elementary stuff.

Would like to think Ipswich being relatively flush as they are they'll pick up his wages while polishing him up for us (this is the second year of a three-with-option-so-four year contract), either as a successor down the line or for shop window resale. It's a league he's skipped so ought to be well suited to finding his feet in.

Question now turns to Kelman who was slated for a loan and moves up a notch instead. Will a squad role stagnate his development? It's a tricky balance. You could point back to the Bright situation on the other hand where we played it safe keeping Wszolek around on his last dead rubber year - if a kid has the talent to skip a level and surprise you, you might just get caught out if the pathway's blocked and/or you're not lightning quick on the contract extension trigger.

There's also Armstrong who - if there's any truth to the big club interest beyond his agent spreading rumours - will have taken a bit of persuasion to renew, and a contract til 2023 would suggest a timeline in mind and sold to the player for any chance of a successful pathway.

All in all, tricky decisions that could go very right or very wrong but sound enough reasoning on the club's part on the face of it.

Correctamundo in my book.

Don't understand the enthusiasm here for spaffing cash on another striker to sit on the bench. CA and Dykes as regular starters and we have the option of one up front or pushing Willock or even Chair forward. Dozzell needs to be fitted in too.

We're not bloody Nottingham Forest.

add the kid from Yeovil with the sunny smile, one for development but old enough to be wanting to push on.

The introduction of the B team should mean that players like Kelman and Masterson can be kept at the club and still get good game time to help their development or, say in Amos' case, ease their way back into the first team squad.

The need for loans out is reduced and the availability of players to play in the first team if required is retained.

The more I think about the B team idea, the more I like it.

It should help bridge the gap somewhat but I doubt a B team will meaningfully obviate the need for well-placed loans past a certain point in development. Brentford have always still had four or five out to League One and partner clubs abroad in recent years since implementing theirs.

From what I’ve observed over the time we have run a B team you are correct most players who have got into the first team have been sent out on loan once they have been assessed. There is a massive churn of players who play B team games and so many trialists although it’s a great help for players getting match fit after coming back from injury.

Yeah Forss for instance was always a highly rated top scorer at B level but likely wouldn't have broken into the side this season were it not for his performances at Wimbledon.

What's also more common in European B systems are players who are signed for and mainly exist to operate as development filler for other players. Might well see more of the curious case of the lad Joe Hardy who at 22 went from your B side to Liverpool's U23s with seemingly no intention of either side stepping him up despite scoring regularly.

What's the set up with the B team next season?

Regular behind closed doors friendlies or matches at Loftus Road (and away grounds, of course) similar to what the Reserve team used to have?
