"And then we lost 1-0 to Derby."

You just couldn't stop yourself, could you?

Thanks Clive.
Missed the first half so great to get a report on that.

But also, thanks - as occurred to me half-way and half an hour into this latest report (for you really do need to stop and think, and sip coffee a bit like the Le Mans drivers do) - for elevating match reports so many, many levels beyond "and then in the 17th minute...."

I say thanks every time, because thanks are due.

Thanks Clive.

Entertaining report which did justice to an exciting match and a very good R's performance.

Hope your closing line about Derby is wrong, but it would be typical Rangers!

Thanks Clive. I think the ref deserves an extra point or two for bringing the crowd to life after a tense first half hour. While he made it clear early on that he was comfortable with ice hockey body checking from both sides, the weird spell when he started making decisions based on the voices in his head rather than what he could see got us out of our seats raging. His indulgence of time-wasting by the goal keeper in the second half lit the fuse again and we all had fun from then on.

Hats off to Albert for his clowning at the end, mocking the defence and ridiculing the refereeā€™s earlier weakness.

On the sudden collapse of ambition by another of our visitors, maybe chasing after the ball most of the game just gets them in the end? Interestingly, Bristol City chose to go into their shell early rather than press. They noticeably came out with ten to go and finished fresher than we did.

A really fizzy, ebullient, exuberant report of a very fine game. Much enjoyed.

I hadn't noticed the Dickie challenge at the game & didn't know what posters were referring to until I saw the highlights.

It would have been sickening if we had dropped two points because of it, but I'm sure the referee took into account our incredible record of saving penalties & so played advantage!

It was a great game to watch & a massive relief when Luke scored. I was beginning to think that we would have to settle for the best 0-0 draw I could remember since at home to West Ham in 1973.

Brilliant win only topped by that brilliant writing and that is back to back masterpieces .
Sadly you would need a bit more protection than a bat in Downtown Chicago at the moment but we can all hope for better days.
Dickie should have been carded and a penalty awarded to be fair but we got fcuked so mant times especially late in games lets run to the bank with this win.
Maybe the silver lining is Dickie wont be snapped away in January or this Summer if he keeps up those tackles .
another week 6 points won happy days long may it continue

Really interesting point about teams giving up their advantage and settling for a point - or trying to - at our place. While Hudds made a good start I thought the longer the first half went on the more dominant we became and they were really struggling to hold us off. I'm a bit amazed at the general feeling of a close game, I thought we could and should have been 2 up at half time, and they were really clinging on a bit.

so, their change in tactics didn't, in my view, come from a place of 'well, we gave it a go, let's take a draw', more from a 'well, we can't go on like that, they're going to destroy us.' Blackburn was different, where it was a more conscious effort to defend, and given their form and place in the league is more inexplicable. I can't believe they're doing so well, or that Brereton-Diaz has scored so many goals. Baffling.

But point is, I think as you say Clive, it's probably a combination of teams seeing an away point at KPFS as a good one, but also us wearing teams down and constantly challenging them. It must be an absolute nightmare trying to mark Illy & Willy, and while teams a while back doubled up on Willock and had some success, since we went back to a more populous midfield that's been harder to do, because we have the added weapon of Dozzell. Interesting.

'and then we lost 1-0 to Derby' is the most accurate thing you've ever written. It is absolutely inevitable.

Bare bones.

Haven't seen the Dickie 'penalty' yet, but interestingly both on Huddersfield fans match thread and the podcast on their offy, they go on about Barbet's 'handball' that most see as a defo pen, but no one's mentioned on here - not easy this ref lark.

Two things I must moan about "voices in the head" - what's the point the officials being able to talk to each other via mics if they erm, don't talk to each other via the mics.

The two late calls in the 1st half, ref clearly saw neither challenge but AR did I guess, so told him.

2 reasons for delay on Chair's offside

1) The ball came off Huddersfield defender but about 50 yards away from AR, its possible he was checking with ref if played deliberately = ON side or deflected = OFF side

2) Even I'm bored with this now, but once more for old times sake - 1st line of offside law = "Its not an offence to be in offside position". Therefore perfectly possible for Chair to know he's offside, leave it and allow another player to play it. At low levels that's not going to happen much, but here could easily.

5 very harsh I thought, but then I often do!

Spot on about Huddersfield attitude though - I too was puzzled why they didn't just carry on slugging it out with us.

first late call in the first half was right in front of him - he certainly saw it. He was less than 5 yards away!

Challenge actually happened behind him I thought - live only mind - 1st one I'm talking about as well but you could be right.

I'll have a look in a bit when I see the 90' back this afternoon.

Edit - Just seen the 1st 45' and the first late decision - he DOES have his back to the incident, hence the late call. Nick and Andy spot that and its clear on replay as well.

0-0 HT, think we can win this one - onto the 2nd half

To continue the NHL analogy, I think the ref "put his whistle away" for the last few minutes.
