Good stuff, agree about Dunne, absolutely the right sort and could go to the top.

Would disagree about Sanderson. He seemed to lose more balls to heavy touches and bad passes than anyone else and positionally was all over the shop. Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole if Wolves let him go.

A Cambridge ST mate I know was really rating Masterson, but said as soon as the experienced pro with him got injured and another kid was brought in he dropped off a cliff. Because of that I think he would do well with some experience so shouldn't be ruled out. If Barbet does leave we may well need him to fit in when De Wijs has the odd game off/can't complete 70 mins.

Sexy Asian dwarves wanted.

The more I read about the Barbet situation, the more annoyed I get. I know we don't know everything that goes on, but how on earth could the club hierarchy not value what he's done for us over the last two seasons?

And I completely agree with your criticism of our approach to players reaching the end of their contracts. Treating departing players with a bit of basic dignity costs us nothing, and gives them and us something to feel proud of. Absolutely baffling that the club would deliberately and repeatedly ignore such a simple opportunity to bring some needed positivity into the club.

Although Sanderson looks uncertain at times with the ball he looks to have qualities as a very good defender but certainly not a ball playing CB.

He has pace which our other CBs don’t which is why I would take him in a heartbeat.

Before he went to Brum it was rumoured that Sunderland were quoted £2m for him and I would not be surprised to see them go back in.

I might be wrong but I don't think Masterson has ever been terrible for us, and as mentioned probably benefits from a wise head next to him. Given what I've seen I would opt for him playing more rather than signing Sanderson.

Of course everything depends on the new manager who may well prefer to play four at the back; in which case we'll have a lot of business to do in a short timeframe before the new season starts. Hope Belk and co. have their little black books at the ready.

Can't dispute any of that.
I'm a lone voice saying Sanderson was not half as bad as some think, and think he was made a bit of a scapegoat on occasions.
I love Jimmy Dunne.
Masterson seems to me to be: classic 'young player looks good first couple of games as they get through on adrenaline before actually being not that great' - but, early days for a CB and he's not a bad player at all.
That is all.

I hope in midfielders you will reveal what Warburton said/thought about Bettache at the start of the season. Seem to remember you saying something about that last year, impression being Warbs thought he had a real chance? Hopefully now Warbs has gone you can betray that trust? ;)

Bare bones.

Amongst the mostly pro-Warburton comments on this board, I have to highlight a couple of the negatives set out here re. stubbornness.

Warbs doesn’t rate Masterson, he is forced to pick him because of injuries. Masterson plays well but Warburton still not having it, so despatched to the lower leagues. Oddly reminiscent of how Manning was treated and look how well that ended.

Albert Adomah, a great story and still a decent player but is a ‘Board’ signing not Warburton’s so he stubbornly refuses to play him at the start of his deal. Stuff like this getting overlooked because of the great 2021 but it still happened and I won’t forget it.

Absolutely. Lots of mistakes as well as good stuff in Warbs' reign. It's daft to pretend otherwise, and damages arguments when people try and make out like he was absolutely perfect, or absolutely terrible. I hope I've been fair in the coverage over the last few weeks.

Personally I think there was more good than bad, and certainly more good than bad relative to some of the crap we had before him. I also think, and keep saying, that if you're waiting for a QPR manager whose selections, subs and post match interviews you agree with entirely, you'll be waiting a long time.

Indeed. I just don't recall Masterson being that terrible that he needed to be dropped and shipped out on loan.

No I think you have been very balanced in contrast to some on the message board.

I was always a Warburton sceptic but about the time you were penning the ‘we’re going to have to be very bad not to make the play offs’ piece I was starting to compose a post in my head where I would say - OK guys, I got it wrong. We’re playing great football all through 2021 and I was genuinely pleased to have been proven wrong AND was ready to admit it.

But for whatever reason, it all went to ****.

For what it's worth, I agree with you on Sanderson. Seemed to me to be just a bit short of the confidence he looked to have had at Brum. I'd be happy to have him back but doubt it will happen.
