Lightning fast, thanks Clive.
Very much the Barbet replacement for sure.
Might be better in a four, but if we play Field, playing three at the back looked increasingly belt and braces last season...

Bare bones.

He's back! Purple bonce and swollen liver.

Nothing controversial happened here, it was eventually too hot.

Still away mate, this one (and Paal) written poolside. George Cox write up from last year having some dust blown off it otherwise.

From the stats, it looks like over 90 per cent of his passes were FORWARDS last season. This will be a revelation to our defence.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

We'll soon beat that nonsense out of him!

Like this signing. The club has done well here, I think. No one can know for sure, and I may well be wrong. But Clarke-Salter at 24/25 is better for the club than Barbet at 29/30 even on the same money, due to resale potential. On top of that, l I’m expect Barnet’s contract requirements would have been bigger too, so it’s an FFP help. And finally, the manager knows his character, so you’d hope/think/expect he’s not a bell end.

All boxes ticked.
Seems like a good signing for us.
I couldn't give a stuff about his resale value though, I just hope he's a decent player for us and we win football matches.

Some interesting stats here from his games at Coventry last season. His passing seems to be a strength

We'll be playing 4 at the back for sure next season

If he is for a back four I’m a little concerned about the ‘gets battered a bit’ especially if he’s part of the two. We’ve been here before with Mancienne and it wasn’t pretty. I know many loved him here, I didn’t, and noticeable elsewhere he was quickly switched to midfield.

I’m more hopeful if he’s left side of a Dickie Dunne three. Didn’t Coventry play a back three with him in the side?

I think it'll take until I see him in the side before I appreciate this one. Mostly because it's the one position we've been fairly well stocked in up to now.

Sad to see Barbet go - his durability was a a big thing I thought, and I'm hoping we bring de Weijs back. But I expect to be more enthused once the season starts and he's linking play together and covering back with pace.

Yes, Coventry played a back three with JCS on the left.

We're assuming Beale will play a back 4 but I noticed yesterday he referenced JCS being able to play in a 3 or a 4 so maybe Beale won't be fixed on 4 at the back.

Also, if he stays, di Wijs could be used on the left when we need some muscle there.

Like the signing. It does sound like it may well be a nominal back three. Either with 3 starting centre backs, or with Field essentially dropping into the centre at all times.

Saw consistent reference to JCS being a left side defender.

Was annoyed at letting Barbet go, but this feels substantially smarter, and potentially cheaper as Barbet was signed when we were spending more and needed to to get players in. We are starting to be quite a good career choice now for young players.

With those stats maybe he could also be used as a defensive midfielder sitting in front of Dunne and Dickie.

Michael Mancienne was a young lad when he played for us though and it wasn’t exactly Gerry’s 92/93 side at the back to be fair to him. I remember his time with us fondly.

He did not set the world on fire in the America's, though I didn't really expect him too. A very average and overpaid member of the New England Revolution.

I'm kind of hoping/expecting that we'll go with a 4 3 3 formation myself, but obviously no harm having some flexibility.

Could have done with him at Ewood Park last season.
