Contract for Martin. 09:41 - Apr 23 with 18469 viewsPaddyhoops

Think he’s done really well for us since coming in .
He’s not particularly mobile but he’s a canny operator and he’s chipped in with with a few goals since he’s come here.
He’s attitude is first class . Worth an another season … possibly.

No. But an "avoid relegation" bonus - if there is such a thing.

No, sorry.
We need pace and athleticism up front.

No. Shake hands and move on. No haem having some experience but we really need to get the conveyor belt going with younger players up front

We need to learn from Austin, as much as he may have earned some recognition of being a good signing this season, it doesn't mean that we should commit budget to keeping him for another season.

If Gaz thinks he can add something to the team and asks for him to get another contract we should maybe offer a 1year deal weighted towards appearances and bonuses, if that doesn't work for Martin then let him find a better deal elsewhere.

Another no. He's done what we hoped he would, scored important goals and by all accounts been good in the dressing room. But his levels are only going to drop and he has zero sell on value. If we can keep Dykes, he provides all Martin does and a lot more besides.

No. We get suckered like this too often. He's here to do a specific job for a certain length of time. Once that's up, he should leave with our thanks. He's a good member of the team but, in my opinion, we shouldn't be trying to build around him. That isn't to belittle any of his contribution, for which I am rightly grateful. He's a good pro and won't have signed that contract expecting to be a long-term option.

We’re in this mess because we didn’t follow the long term plan.

Time for Armstrong and hopefully another couple of moldable young hungry chaps, either from youth system or lower leagues.

That said, we should get a stand named after Martin for his role in our survival bid.

That’ll be a no then . For what it’s worth having heard the arguments put forward and wise words offered by veteran posters, it’s probably best if he doesn’t get a new contract.

No.
He has a decent scoring record. But he's on the wane. L1 beckons for him and I suspect he will do well there. But next season the champ is beyond him.

We need fast pace, fast shooting and fast crossing. Fast, fast, fast!

I’ll go against the grain and say yes to another year. He seems intelligent and a good influence that would be a benefit to the squad. This squad lacks leaders and I think he’ll bring some of that.

Much as he was ineffectual on the pitch Holloway always speaks very warmly about the positive influence Brett Angel brought to the squad.

But not to.my patience.
Possibly the most immobile footballer I ever watched. And that includes Akinfenwa and Mark Hateley.

I agree. He's coming up 35 later in the year but he's scored some vital goals over less than 12 games. The question is how much does he cost? How much would he cost? We know the future is hopefully Armstrong etc, who still has less goals for the season than Dieng by the way! Will Dykes stay? I'm not sure. I think if it is up to Dykes perhaps. But he may need to be sold to balance the books. In which case who is left as a senior striker? No one if Martin moves on. So that has to be a consideration.

Never knowingly right.

2023 version of Brett Angell. Worth keeping on another year at the right price.

God knows this lot need a voice and experience in the dressing room.

I wouldn’t want to keep him in an ideal world, but we all know how expensive strikers are. If we haven’t been able to afford a decent one to this point, I can’t see how we’re going to be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat given the likely state of the finances

Sorry but No

I was very critical of the signing at the time but he has given a 100 % and chipped in with a couple of important goals, the situation where he was made captain and being the most professional at the club pretty much sums up the sorry state we are in

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Thinking the same thing. Do we have a striker coach?

Back up to Dykes, but please not first choice (and captain). He was ideal as a replacement for Dykes, but should not be playing alongside him up top...

Can we go out yet?

Dykes will be sold in the summer as he's in his last year so, very slim chance Dykes will be here next season.

We will be lucky to get £2m for Dykes as he's in his last year and then we shall have to spend that on a couple of players in that position in case one of them is a Jaffa Cake.

Lets hope Mole face will pay way more for Dykes as he's getting desperate at Granger's.

Players are always a bit more motivated when their contract is up… we got a few good months out of johansen, and then gave him a 3 year deal

Ainsworth, if he sticks around, has laid the foundation for him staying around by giving him captaincy- also, he fits Ainsworth hoofball style

Don’t rly see an issue w him as a third choice… I think fans biggest issue was that he was being asked to play 90 mins saturday Tuesday Saturday at age 35…..

No , but thanks .

His attitude has shown up some of his younger fitter and more talented team mates and I hope he gets a deal elsewhere but older players often struggle to get fit again after the close season .

It's a no from me as well.

This time next season the guy will be almost 36 years old. I'm sure he's got another season in him somewhere in league 1 or 2 but definitely not in the championship, if we stay up.

My honest opinion is that Kelman is never going to make it as a championship striker and Sinclair desperately needs a season in League 1 playing regular football and scoring goals. Which leaves us with a massive problem of just having dykes next year. That's assuming we don't sell him as he's only got a year left. So you'll possibly talking about bringing in two or three strikers which is absolutely mental.

This summer is going to be a fun one without a doubt, doesn't matter what league we're in. What we really need to learn now is if you have several number 10s at your disposal you need to play a game plan which suits them.
