Good luck getting a 100 million for that piece of land esp before the HS2 is built .its was a shit idea when TF wanted it and its even more of a shit idea now , only plus point is being a brown field site it would be fairly easy to get a football stadium approved ,long old trek from the corwn on a match day as well
I'm not sure why it was a bad idea then or what the issue is, but imo it might be worth considering given the lack of progress in getting any movement on the LC stadium or any other site in the local area.
What is clear us that QPR cannot really make any real progress whilst at Loftus Rd. The ground is old, cramped and cannot be improved without reducing the capacity.
Fernandes and the board handled it spectacularly badly. But reading back Geoff Warren's quotes in rejecting it in 2014 is pretty laughable now.
“We own the land. We are going to develop it...We are making very good progress with the planning application. I’ve committed £15m to the process."
Yeah, sure you did.
It was just hot air all round, wasn't it? No way is that site worth £100m in its current state, with surrounding area also requiring huge investment before anything is even built. It's not the Olympic park.
Nah. I've changed my tune. Stay at Loftus Road. I'm done with all that now. And digging down. We've been promoted twice to the prem in this stadium. We just need to be a better run club. A bigger stadium is not going to make us world beaters. We'll have all the same issues but with more leg room. I like where we are.

Bournemouth stadium is tiny and they seem to do all right
I agree, I love Loftus Road and the whole experience and I’d rather we made the most of it than chased a soulless retail park dream in a shitty part of west London

They are in the process of doubling the size of it. It'll soon be bigger than ours; and size matters!

Disagree. Size does not matter for clubs like us.
Bournemouth are going from 11.2k to 20k.
QPR's capacity is 18.5k.
Brentford's capacity is 17.2k
The difference in capacities here make very little material difference, though the facilities at LR are miles behind. Worth knocking the place down and moving to a brownfield three miles north? I don't think so, but it'd be years away anyway.
It's how the club trades and is run that matters.
See Leicester City (capacity 32k), Sheffield W (capacity 34k), Reading (24k), Huddersfield (24k), Barnsley (23k), etc.
Size does not really matter for clubs like ours. It's what you do with it.

It’s quite possible that Bournemouth and Brentford make more use of their grounds outside of matchdays then we do given that they are newer grounds. That seems to be the main issue with Loftus Road in that it is used for 23 days of the year and being old stands are much more costly to run.

Agreed. With having to provide 30% affordable housing and the Economy versus House Prices starting to resemble a QPR scoreline against Southampton, Cov or Middlesborough they have well and truly missed the boat. Shouldn't have been so greedy way back when.

If we stay at Loftus Rd we will never move forward as a club. As we have talked to death on this forum. We are the only club in the top 2 divisions to have not moved grounds or done any serious redevelopment on their ground in over 30 years. That’s why we have watched Brentford and Fulham go past us in recent years to become established Premier League sides. We know all the reasons why Loftus Rd can’t be redeveloped. This site if something can be agreed would be fantastic as it keeps us in the borough. We could build a stadium how we want it to be. It would be benefit from all the transport at Old Oak. It’s a win / win for everyone. If Nourry and the board got this done, then Nourry can have the freedom of the White City. I loved Loftus Rd as much as everyone else, but to move forward as a club we have to move. I’ve sat in the same seat in the Loft since it was rebuilt back in the 80s and literally nothing has changed in my ‘match day’ experience. Take the memories with us to a new ground and create new ones.
If there's any chance at all, at that price, we have to go for it. Of course, size matters - even in the Championship. LR's capacity means maximum revenue from gate receipts would be around £10m. Somebody with access to the latest accounts can put me right, but I don't think I'll be far out. 12-13,000 ST holders at £400 per year (average) + 10,000 more at £25 per match boosts that figure by over £1m. More importantly, a new stadium, next to HS2 stop should allow huge improvement in commercial revenue. In addition, a newer ground should not require the same level of maintenance. The likes of Brentford and Bournemouth feast on the PL trough, which vastly outweighs gate revenue. I read an article that stated North Battersea are uncompetitive with the bigger clubs, with bigger capacities, as their ground only holds 41,000 compared to Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and the 2 Manchester clubs.
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)

I've had cause to walk past the Legoland Stadium a number of times recently.
Bentford rankle me as they are on my doorstep.
Sometimes I laugh at how "small time" they went with that stadium. However, most of the time I think, "that's a 17.5k seater stadium with minimal corporate areas, not a lot else outside matchday and it's in souless area but brilliantly located.... yet again they are making it a success. Bstards!"
I know they leveraged the ground with loads of shite flats around it, the land was cheap due to contamination etc, etc, etc. It does show though, that a 35k seater bowl is not the answer to your prayers.
I'm with you - Loftus Road forever and concentrate on the stuff that actually makes you a decent football club - the football players and staff.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
What do we love about Loftus Rd? The enclosed ground that is tight to the pitch that can generate a great atmosphere. The facilities other than that are cramped and outdated. If we want to compete and be a better run club, then a new stadium has to be our goal. If this is doable and the owners are still willing, we should go for it. Try and recreate as best we can a tight ground close to the pitch with IMO 25k approx capacity with scope to enlarge. The difference then being a modern spacious ground with facilities to generate income outside of football.
Looking at the size of that site though, even 1/3 of it is far bigger than we would need, so a £30m bid has got to be well worth an offer

The owners have shown before that they're up for a bit of a project, so hopefully they take a look. Like you say, the site is massive we could fit a ground on the part north of the trainlines and develop the lower part on the canal into a mixed use area. When the area was previously looked at for development there was the suggestion of a new overground station and a pedestrian bridge to Old Oak Common. Would be well connected back to Shepherd's Bush if they did that but unlike to make the money back on the stadium fully from the development. Only benefit would be to make the club sustainable and stop them from throwing £2m down the drain each month.
What about buying part of the land building a bigger matthew tizzard school. Then we could require the land behind the school end?.
Next to the Tizzard school site is Imre Close with a dozen or so private houses that take up about a third of the area behind the school end. Acquiring the school site would not provide enough space to extend the ground.

Agree we should consider this.
Love Loftus Road but my knees don't. Transport links would be a big plus.

With clever design it would help us increase capacity same for south Africa road being made deeper add say 2k to the school end and same for South Africa road we are in the early 20 capacity wise . What I don’t know is if the club still have a restrictive covenant on it for the Amount of times it can be used each calendar year ,they used to have back in the day . The jack tizzard school being moved to the TA centra at the end of South Africa road could just about work in my opinion.
The club had the chance to buy the perfect bit of land for the same money as Car giant wanted to they didn’t bother going for it , prefect rail links multiplex neat door , no planning issues if heiniekn made perfect pieces of land dairy crest was it . Car giant as and still is a awful choice for a ground esp a multituse stadium hoping to have gigs boxing football on it.habing hs2 next to it won’t benefit the club it never would have done
