Mbengue - Whats the viewpoint on this guy... 11:41 - Apr 19 with 6268 viewsnumptydumpty

Some are against Varane for me he is very up and down but on his best days he is excellent. i think thats the frustration with him. If we get decent money for him, which is possible, i think we could all be happy with and move on.

Myself though however, my main reservations the most currently are with Mbengue.

Yes his pace is incredible and sometimes he makes incredible defence saving tackles. However, his rash moments, diving in dangerously, crossing which can be absolutely woeful and very often he sells himself way too early and is easily passed and beaten by opposition wide men.

Yes he is a complete character, sometimes he can be way out of position too, leaving us wide open at the back and yes, great as a rabble rouser after a decent win, but beyond being very erratic and a walking yellow card is he actually any good ?? If he is still with us next season i would hope its just as a squad member. Certainly wouldn't wish him as number one right back.

For me, we need to be looking at a first choice specialist right back and also not keep playing centre backs in this position always. Yes we also need more cover at left full back but personally i would myself much rather have RND in the squad than Mbengue.

Appreciate with some, he is a fans favourite, as much to do with his character, but is he actually any good and is he likely to improve.

Wondered how others see this ???

Difference between MBengue and Varane to me is effort and fulfillment of potential. Zmadou looks like he is trying all the time and his limitations are out there with his strengths, whereas JoJo appears to be playing within himself constantly.

That might be unfair, but it is just how I see it.

I'd also like to think that we could do better in both positions. Yes, he is older, but Hayden is a better player than JoJo, but there is no bettrr right back in our squad than Amadou.

Can we go out yet?

Jimmy is a thousand times better right back.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Possibly, but the fact that Stephan played Ronnie there when he had a choice makes its own statement.

FWIW whilst JCS is actually fit, him and Ronnie at CB with Jimmy at RB would be my choice although a new RB would not go amiss...

Whem Amadou goes on those surging runs, I do wonder what's going on in his noggins. Same when he tackles. My conclusion rarely deviates from, probably best not to know.

I've said on here several times that when he crosses the ball, I'm convinced he's aiming for a best mate in the upper loft or school end. If only he would become besties with Kone or Buzz.

He's good fun, but he's a liability.

I think once the ‘fun factor’ wore off he can be largely seen for what he is - a limited but quick and aggressive defender. I think there is no harm in a bit of aggression in our defence -similar to Kone up front - because we are often too ‘nice’. His obvious short-comings are less of a liability a FB than CB, but he should not be first choice FB next season. Decent option to have to bring on if we are tiring or under pressure, but not a starter for me. All that said, I would rather fix our central midfield before working on other areas.

Nowhere near good enough as a full back and far down the pecking order as a centre back. Move on.

I think he fits into the 'cult hero' category. Not necessarily the best but someone who does things that make you think 'he's one of us'. A sort of Marc Bircham for Generation Alpha.

I like him, a big part of our god run in November/December was him moving to right back. He's not perfect and does some really daft things but seems a great character to have in the dressing room and a good first season at this level.

Not a first choice right back if we want to progress. As ever, both full backs a problem position.

This is a lad who has been homeless and passed from pillar to post in the care system as a child. He's already a massive success. It's up to us, the fans, and this club to put our arm around the lad and help him reach his full potential. He is raw, the is talented, he makes a lot of mistakes and he can welly a football. And he's ours! Like Richard Kone, he's a rags to riches story in the making. Let's help him be a star and be proud, like we are of Eberechi Eze and as we will be with Richard Kone, that these players were made at QPR.

Are you with me lads? No?.... Well, I tried! I believe the 'liability' element will possibly always be there but there is a lot to work with and he's come through a very tough early life, so I believe he has the metal to grow as a player!

I knew Kone was homeless.

Did not know Mbengue was, as well. But obviously possible with where he has come from also.

Wasnt knocking the guy myself, and yes its his first season with us and he was with Reading also, but was just highlighting whether we think he could be good enough for us, as a first choice right back. ie there are quite a few rough edges. I feel Kone has been learning on the job well but Mbengue though has plateaued.

A lot throw Varane abuse on here but no one comes in and says stop having a go at him. I personally like Mbengue but for me he will be a squad player herr, not first choice. If thats wrong to voice an opinion here - not sure what the main point of football fans forum is.

Wasnt knocking his desire to do well. Just an opinion on a fans forum Bosh, not having a pop at the guy, Obviously would love it, if he could up his game and do well.

I like Mad Ben. He's a character and we need some of them. He's also got great pace and aggression. He can strike a football. I think the wild passes and tackles often at the end of very pacy runs with and without the ball can be coached out of him. I don't think getting another first choice RB is a top priority, we currently have Dunne and Edwards who have played well there, Field and Hayden who could fill in there, plus Adamson potentially coming through. A new GK if Nardi is off, and a LB if we cannot afford to keep RND, look the top priorities.

Just a quick one to clarify the pronunciation of his name. I’ve always assumed it’s ‘Em-ben-gay’ but I was listening to the game on BBC London on Saturday and the commentator referred to him as ‘Em-ben-goo’ throughout. So, is it ‘gay’ or ‘goo’?

I like him. Bit lunatic but i do like it. With some right coaching he ll be very good.
Better at RB than Dunne imo.
Dunne is slow and an oil tanker turns faster than Dunne.
Dunne is better with aerial duels.
Mbengue is much quicker and far better with ball on feet and do have better game eye.

Control his brainfarts and bit more coaching and he will make the RB role his. Got passion and pace, just needs to control the passion and use it positively rather than taking on lost causes and getting himself sent off i.e. Wrexham. Need fighters in the team that show passion, he gets stuck in, just needs to have a cool head, also pace going forward, proved dangerous goals against Leicester and Norwich and disallowed goal against Watford.

I really like him.

Yes he's limited, yes he's mad, but like Bosh says - he's ours!

i think he can be coached to be better.

I think we have much bigger issues elsewhere - the middle of the park is priority, along with RB if RND isn't coming full time.

If you are happy finishing mid-table then yeah he's perfect but we desperately need 2 proper full backs in the summer

Mbengue - Whats the viewpoint on this guy... on 14:26 - Apr 20 with 3163 viewssimmo

All of his attributes are raw, good and bad. He's rapid and athletic, but clumsy and rash. He's brave and willing, but lacks finesse for end product. He is the only one in the back half of the pitch with any kind of pace, but he's also the biggest liability.

Don't forget it's his first full season at this level, and he's been a full back with us for less than that. I've seen him play superb defensive games too, locking up some of the best wingers in the league. Still 24 and relatively late into this level of football. A bit mental but plenty to work with. I like him a lot.

I guess I am in the minority but I really like him. I like his aggressiveness and physicality back there. The opposing attacking players know they are in a tough match with him. I also think he moves forward pretty well, many times he has taken the ball himself and started the counter. Yes he makes mistakes and fouls a lot, but to me that comes with his aggressive style of play

Mbengue is a very poor footballer and needs to be moved on in the summer. It is not acceptable to shift our most powerful and dominant Centre Back out to RB to replace him. We MUST go out and get two RBs this summer - it's very obvious.

We cannot keep ignoring the full back positions. For too many seasons we've gone into August light in numbers and with the hope of bridging the gap by using a "utility player" as and when necessary. I don't want to be shunting Dunne, Field, Vale or whoever into FB every time the only pair we have are injured, knackered or out of form - we should have FOUR credible/specialist FBs in the squad or we will scupper any chance of mounting a decent 46-game 9 month campaign.

Totally disagree with this.

You think we need to sign TWO right backs? How about we continue to coach and improve the young players we already have instead of just buy loads more?
