Haven’t listened but "the worst dressing room"? I remember being surprised how compact it is on my one visit and Samba’s a big lad so I’m wondering if he means worst for size. Maybe it was the wallpaper ? Fixtures & fittings? General ergonomics? Acoustics? Hang on, does he mean the players?

QPR from 1' 18" to 1' 32". Actually a really enjoyable listen. I wonder now whether some of our current popular pods should have him on. He left under a bit of a cloud but he explains why and it's quite enlightening. He had a 5 year contract with no relegation clause! He really wanted to come in and make a difference but said when QPR bought him he'd been on vacation from Anzhi (winter break?) and was about 12kg overweight and hadn't played in quite a while. He wanted to get conditioned and was asked how fit he was and he told them about 20%. He admitted he couldn't even complete the 20 second warm up sprints. They said that 20% was good enough and threw him in that weekend and what the fans witnessed was a result of that and he agreed! He couldn't gradually reload his body back to fitness as it was always being done at match pace and as a result it just got worse and worse and kept breaking down. He admits many were there for a payday and their attitude stunk but it seems he actually really wanted to come in and make a difference but was totally mismanaged. He may have been tarnished with the same brush as the others. My opinion on him may have nudged a little. Come on pods... Get him on! Oh, and you have to hear his impression of the cash counting machines. It's spot on 😆

I still think that if Warnock had been given Tony's money a bit earlier he could have built a team to compete and stay in that division.
I'm afraid that the combination of Kia's supermarket sweep and 'Arrys black book of mates built a team of rsoles that were never likely to perform when the chips were down. And, the chips were definitely soggy that year

Yeah, I think the purse wasn't opened until the 11th hour. The story was that Warnock wanted Scott Parker for the CM role, but couldn't get it done, and Barton was just available.
Maybe Sharon thought he could change him, or hadn't met him down in Cornwall?
tbh I don't think Parker would have been the answer either, but I'd rather have watched Warnock try and fix it, than Hughes and Redknapp robbing Tony of all his cash

Ecclestone was the man with the purse strings at that time and refused to sell to Mittal as he thought his offer was far too short. Refused money as said for Williams and Routledge and also the Swansea centre forward that I cannot remember the name of but legend had it that he had bought a house in Harlington😂. And so the trolley dash at the end and to be fair the team played some great football at the start under Warnock, along with the wins there was that Monday night 0-0 against Newcastle when the footballing gods seemed to line up in their goal line to stop us from ever scoring. But memorable wins against Stoke, Wolves, both away and of course against the filth in the match that carried in giving. But Warnock was eventually stabbed in the back by some of these signings and sadly Fernandes was gullible and starstruck enough to listen to those he should have told to fùck off and in came Hughes. Had Warnock stayed I’m convinced that we would survived that season and if not we would have obtained promotion back straight away. Had Mittal bought the club I’m very sure that QPR would now be in the position the likes of Brighton are in.

Just finished it, what an amazing career he had. I’ve just gone down an Anzhi rabbit hole. Fifteen years on from Samuel Eto’o, Roberto Carlos and Guus Hiddink, they’re in the Russian Amateur League, the fifth level of the pyramid (about ten local divisions across the country). It’s not that owner went bust or got purged, he just lost interest and turned off the money. Still oligarching away, though he can’t be too happy that Ramzan Kadyrov of Chechnya has declared a “blood feud” against him.

I dont think Warnock would have spent the money wisely anyhow. He had much more experience at getting 110% out of decent but not the highest profile types of players.
Given many many millions i just think the game model was designed to fail.
When you have a Mackie and a Hill doing everything but being paid a pittance and even if you got ex top level players that wanted to try, just think the disparity in wages would still ultimately spell disaster.
We truly ballsed up a golden opportunity then, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton showed us the error of our ways.....
It was doomed to fail, no matter who we had in charge....
Knew we were well and truly f*cked when we signed Cesar after Rob Green showed the odd flaw....
