If we sort out the obvious weak spots at GK, FB and CM and finally sort out the fitness and injury issues, there’s no reason why we couldn’t push for 6th–8th. The problem is that addressing obvious issues hasn’t exactly been this club’s strong point, so unless the leadership group finally gets its act together, it feels like it'll be 15th or worse again. Let's not underestimate the importance of all the leadership experience that has already left the building. Replacing that is not going to be easy, and that's assuming that our all-knowing CEO has even realised that this is a major issue.
I fully expect next season to be made up of seeing a team of talented youngsters folding in the face of adversity on a weekly basis and not even understanding how to respond.
As Clive pointed out, the second half of our season was relegation form. This is not a healthy portent of things to come. | | | |

You say the club has not been stromg on "addressing obvious issues"
Well, last season we got Kone and Burrell in, when for years, we have literally possessed zero effective centre forwards in our team. Yes, I can't see us addressing all of our issues, but if they did manage to clear a couple of them, ie decent goalkeeper and full backs, it's possible.
Never say never !!
Regards the thread question - for me, i can't suggest a position until transfers are in and out, then might have a more specific answer.
However, for the sake of it - it's 16th..

Unless we miraculously fix the fitness issues, start doing the basics better, make adjustments to our constantly overrun central midfield and sort out the frequent lack of intensity, I can see us struggling to stay up, especially as one of Madsen, Burrell or Kone could be sold for the purposes of FFP compliance.
I don't see much ambition to go up from the club, the focus just seems to be on using the young players, but most of them aren't at the right level yet.
I don't want to be a Dorothy Downer but unless JS, Nourry and Williams all change the way they operate, it will be 19th at best, I reckon, sadly  . |  |

This is true, and credit where it’s due, they’ve definitely strengthened the striker department. If they hadn’t, we’d probably have gone down this season with the amount of goals we’ve conceded. But overall I still stand by the point that they ignore too many glaringly obvious issues and gaps in the squad.
Going into a season with a youth keeper, a senior one you clearly don’t really fancy anymore, and one senior LB who we had to loan was pretty pathetic planning, especially when we keep stockpiling wingers and CBs that we probably didnt really need. You can argue these things take time to sort out, but is it really that difficult to find a couple of decent Championship-level LBs? I’d argue finding two good strikers is harder, and they managed that.
I haven’t given up hope, but this summer they have to at least attempt to properly address the positions people have been talking about for ages instead of just pretending they’re not an issue.
As for “experience”, that’s an interesting one because what do people actually mean by it? Just signing older players? I’d much rather have a 23-year-old LB who’s played 100 EFL games, has leadership qualities and still has room to improve, than a 29-year-old who’s been sat on the bench at some yo-yo club for three years and turns up here for one last payday.
For me the Steve Cook, Sean Derry, Clint Hill types are pretty difficult to find and you have to put up with a lot of Leon Balogun and Moses Odubajo types in between finding the older gems. For me it’s less about age and more about character and proper EFL experience. Maybe that’s what people really mean when they say we need more experience. | | | |

Spot on.
Unless there's a fundamental overhaul of the backroom staff (looking at you bicycle Ben) and some new found ambition to toughen up (both physically and mentally) and cease rolling over for the bigger boy opponents we've got about as much chance of avoiding a relegation battle as I have of becoming the WBO Middleweight Champion.
Doesn't matter who we sign / sell. As I pointed out on a match thread recently, we get bummed in the gob, concede 70 plus goals every season etc whether Cook, Dunne and the much lauded Field are in team or not. Apologies, think last season has smashed even my usually positive, upbeat view of our beloved club to bits. |  | | |
