I just read that Gail's club sandwich has equivalent salt to 6 cheeseburgers. I do like Gail's though.
Fav sarnie ? The classic bacon and white bread with a touch of brown sauce is popular and rightly so.
Today, I had Italian ham, Leerdammer cheese and the white bits of a spring onion.
Millwall fans favour the knuckle sandwich I'm told.

£8.90 for a sandwich? The game's gone.

Do you think salt grows on trees or something?

Two slices of freshly baked bread, none of this wrapped and sliced nonsense.

Butter the two slices and plop a fried egg in the middle and there you have It.

No sauce though.

The sandwich shop in the arcade in Penzance makes a chicken surprise sandwich which is chicken and bacon with chopped cucumber, spring onion and tomato all in mayonnaise - I used to buy it a few years back but now make my own version of it and it's the tastiest thing in sliced bread. A nice ham sandwich with salad and mustard close in second. Toastie sandwich - always cheese and onion.

My favourite bacon sandwich. Honestly, I know it sounds a faff but it adds two or three minutes to your sandwich and makes it so much better.
Guacamole - scoop out an avocado, mash in some finely chopped onion of whatever kind you've got, a bit of chilli, some fresh coriander, bit of oil and seasoning)
Tomato salsa - finely chopped fresh tomato, a bit of coriander, oil, salt, whatever else you fancy.
Bacon.
It's an upgraded BLT, and I promise the guac and salsa make the bacon sing.

I prefer streaky with these companions, but for a plain bacon sarnie I prefer back or middle.

Can’t believe no one’s gone for the Quintessential Grilled Cheese sandwich, sold at Serendipity 3 in New York City, featuring Caciocavallo Podolico cheese, grass-fed white truffle butter and 23-karat gold flakes on French Pullman champagne bread (even better with a dollop of brown sauce). A bargain at $214 US dollars too.

For me get a couple of decent sausages, which when Cooke are cut length ways, one for each side of the slice of bread or if you are really feeling decadent then four sausages, two each side, saves on the slicing and on top of that a good strong grated cheddar and finished off with plenty of Branson pickle on the other slice before assembling. First had this in the Red Lion down South Ealing Road when I was 17. 43 years later still haven’t found a sarnie that beats it.

Gail's is overpriced trash. Have no idea why the middle classes become so utterly obsessed with such a gaudy chain

Why would anyone put cucumber or avocado in a sandwich ?

You might as well just blow your nose in it !!!

Best sandwich - croque monsieur I had in New York. It cost $10 and came with chips (fries) and salad. Couldn't believe the quality, quantity and price.

Fav sandwich - has to be a bacon sandwich. White bread, butter, streaky bacon, brown sauce.

Ps: Open sandwiches - culinary revelation or abomination?

I've banged on about this before but; Shepherd's Bush Market, Mr Falafel's classic wrap. Best in London.

I love that place. I took Mrs Jevlar there after shopping at Westfield and said let's bin those places off for Mr Falafel. She had her doubts but then she ate in silence, couldn't believe how good it was.

Correct, no sauce, but a thin layer of Marmite.

Not sure if it’s true, but I read somewhere that every constituency with a LibDem MP has a Gail’s in it.

Over-priced, perhaps, but trash? No. IMHO Gail's make the best croissants in London, and their cakes are utterly delicious; the pecan cake and the flourless chocolate cake being my favourites. I also highly rate the parmesan chicken in a bun. Yum.

You can't beat a good steak and onion baguette but equally you often can't find a good one. They can easily f**k up the steak or make the bread too hard. Get a good one though and it's like sex in yo mouth.

Add in a slice of fried bacon and you get a KamiKaze. You can add tomato ketchup as well for total chaos.

Where do you get your croissants from then, if you think Gail's aren't up to much?

Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate!
