Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry 17:13 - May 15 with 46210 viewsNorthernr

There was an end of season debrief with the CEO at Loftus Road last night which I attended. We've whacked the audio on the Patreon, no pay wall on this so you should all be able to listen whether you've got a sub or not - please let me know if that's not the case.

I'll perhaps type the minutes up physically over the weekend if I've got enough in the tank...

Nourry should have been able to answer the question at the meeting.
If the club chose to justify their decision to up the prices ,in the way that they did , by claiming abuse it should have been obvious that they would be asked to provide details of such skullduggery at a meeting with fan representatives..
No reason they couldn’t have gone down the route of just dealing with those that broke the rules first before hitting those who played by them unless it is simply about bringing in more income. If that is the real reason he should have just said so rather than pinning it on the abuse angle.

I was surprised that the CEO of the company was not able to provide even a vague estimation of those figures, having made that decision.

It's not too much to expect the CEO to turn upto a fans meeting prepared with his numbers, to answer the inevitable questions on season tickets.

Incompetence, arrogance, or both?

On what basis is it justified to hold a confidential discussion with a select group of fans versus addressing the entire fan base?

It is not only a calculated leadership choice, but symptomatic of an organization that breeds widespread mistrust. Par for the course, it seems.

My guess? Attempting to keep a select group of influential fans “onside” via special privileges.

Sorry but I have to object to this JD. There are multiple people that challenge him in these meetings. Previous meetings were spicier, although I will admit the attendee list has become bloated now, in an attempt to even the playing field, so to speak.

I want CN to squirm till he breaks his guard. More uncomfortable he is the better as he'll either jump or finally realise that running a football club is an extremely unique job and a privileged one at that.

I just hope his code can be rewritten into a more fan orientated outlook and think of us as more equal than not.

It's the hope that kills you! Here's hoping!

Well, that certainly was a tad prickly.

I could sense the static crackle big time.

I can't say it was particularly illuminating, but i also wasn't massively upset by most of what was said.

These meetings with Christian Nourry give the air of trying to trip him up and himself reacting as if he were under attack, but sticking to his guns.

The concessions issue i kind of understand. We do need to maximise our revenue, wherever we can, but a press release blaming parts of the fanbase for this change is a bit of an own goal. If i had been Christian, i personally simply would have just made the changes without the need for this so called reason.

The answer to the experienced player quota was slightly concerning for me. I think you need at least three or four in your full squad, but understand he is committed to his plan, and if it works, all power to him, I say. I feel its a big risk but no problems, him sticking to what he feels on this one.

He is very vague on his input at Hammersmith meetings, simply discussing its to be the area in London where most entrepreneurs will be start ups in business. He mentioned this without saying why this could be a positive for ourselves. My only thought is sponsorship of your local club.

Was surprised no one asked a specific question about the plan behind the goalkeeper situation. Appreciate thats normally a question for Stephan, but why do we not have a Q and A including the manager also.

And also when asked about injuries, he admitted they had been disappointed and said they would be having a thorough look at this. Again though, it would have been good to get Ben Williams up to answer questions on this, particularly if Christian decides to keep him here.

The plans that to get young players lower down the leagues was met with, we have hardly get any players out on loan in league one or league two for many years, but when asked about players like Bennie, Morgan and Kolli not dropping down and getting experience at Championship level, ie throw them in the deep end and see if they swim. Thought myself was a decent and understandable response. i do think we are doing well in this regard too.

For me it did have the air, that questions were being asked to catch him off guard and that the answers were delivered with a style suggesting a very guarded response. Not giving the game away.

Its very apparent that keeping the fans in the loop is low on the agenda, but i feel this is almost thought of because the hierarchy believe they dont want to give away any competitive advantage to our competitors. Its their MO for me. If it works, all well and good. i dont quite understand the reasons behind this myself, but i hope these ideas work.

Nourry is definitely not here to fail. He has beliefs in his methods and absolutely for me, this coming season is make or break for this regime.

For me, this could go either way. We shall see.

Ok, but for what reason does he have an off the record / confidential chat with fans?

From his perspective, I mean. What is his ultimate aim and goal of that? If it’s even possible to know that is…. Does he actually explain why he is doing that?

My son, a junior member, first went to the Ipswich match in August 2023 as a 7 year old. Up to and including this season he could still get a free ticket in the lower loft on the online system even though he turned 10 a couple of weeks ago. So the online system allowed this even though you’d imagine it would be simple to stop in a members area.

What was interesting to me was the change in tone when answering Clive’s questions compared to the rest of the recording . Certainly micro aggression there and that’s the problem.
He only wants a select few fans there because he can’t really handle being pushed on anything that isn’t pre prepared.
It’s the underlying politicians attitude that worries me most about our Christian .
He mentions early on about data and stats driving us forward and will happily tell anybody and everybody at every given opportunity that the season tickets in the Lower School End are the lowest in the Championship for example , and has all the info up his sleeve that makes him look good . But somehow doesn’t have the details to hand of issues that don’t make him look quite so good .

To pin that price hike on the fans is either a bit of a deliberate swipe or an inexperienced gaff, because as pointed out by Clive, but obvious to all of us with an ounce of brain, how could they possibly know ? Know one is checking on a match day . It’s simply a lie .
It wouldn’t surprise me if they have read somewhere or been told by a governing body at a meeting somewhere that “it’s estimated that every club loses ???? amount every season by people using concession tickets to get in”.
And so they decided to use it as a reason to put prices up .
That’s all a view of course and I expect it’s inexperience in monitoring the backlash of a fan base rather than a spiteful lash out, but it’s an untruth and that’s a real worry for me .

This Is playing it to be true, noticeable that pro nourry voices were added to the group this time to facilitate that.

RE; season tickets. I think it would have gone down alot better by just telling people to look out the window at the current climate in the world. I have no issues with the price rises, I do have issues with the way it was communicated.

Exactly .
And that goes for how Marti was sacked, how Paul Furlong was dismissed and multiple other issues.
I’ve always said it’s not the act, it’s how the act is implemented.

Can’t make up my mind if it’s pure arrogance or complete inexperience.

Probably both

Great couple of posts, Mart, and I thought he was pass-agg with Clive.

My take on CN is its hubris, and actually a lack of experience, but he’d never want to admit that so it’s masked with defensiveness.

In truth. I reckon he’d be really good at his role at CEO if he had another 10 years under his belt, and might have acquired a bit of humility that sometimes comes with getting older.

CN simply wouldn’t picture himself at QPR in ten years as we are a mere stepping stone to him.

There is always an on the record and off the record part of these meetings.
It makes me uncomfortable, TBH, and I am constantly pushing back for more of it to be on and reportable, including refusing to attend unless a substantial potion of the evening is reportable to you guys.
Sometimes, in certain cases, it is unavoidable.

Off the record briefings with fans sites and blokes who have an X account with ‘QPR whatever’ in their handle stinks. It’s real Animal Farm, culture war bollox and it will come back to bite all. It’s what I hate most about QPR in 2026 (and in 2006, funnily enough).
9
Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 11:44 - May 16 with 3317 viewsTK1

Whenever I hear Nourry speak I am always impressed by his fluency and struck by his narcissism. He cannot succeed by micromanaging every aspect of the club.

Matt Winton left what I imagine CN found the most awkward note hanging in the air at the end there: if we’re still 15th next season and don’t sell a young player for £5-10m that summer of '27, then we can ask questions. He’s right. I think he meant it as a positive, calming statement ahead of a volatile summer, but it’s probably terrifying for CN that he may be judged. A narcissist's biggest fear involves a mirror.

Apart from when Clive snared him in his concessions nonsense, he is at his least convincing to my mind when discussing the team, the age groups…A ‘Sporting CEO’ in charge of recruiting U16s as well as negotiating start-ups and club shop biz with H&F council is doomed when the the first team finish 15th again.

History repeats and I still feel we are around the Sousa part of the Four Year Plan arc.

Next season or possibly season after could be Magilton/Hart/Harford era…then, necessity will require an actual manager in a more traditional mode or a football-only Director.

While there is a Briatore/Nourry guy micromanaging everything from the entrance carpets to Jan window in the background, it’s going to be hard. But it would not take much because credit where credit is due, recruitment is decent and another powerbase with actual agency on the senior squad could bring the pot to a boil.

I get that, Ned, but the point being made is very valid. Brief ALL fans on what you feel that you can brief them on. If you want to get a message out via fans groups, brief those individuals on what you can brief ALL fans on.

Do not, under any circumstances, tell any fan something and then tell them that it privileged information that they are not allowed to share.

Frankly, it's either something that the masses can know, or it is something that is privileged that should stay within the club.

Its just common sense, surely?

(edit) It has been hinted at in this thread, but there is a massive difference in briefing professional journalists, who understand the roles of privileged and unprivileged information, but a bunch of internet "influencers" or whatever they want to be called are not that...

That's not a question I can answer I'm afraid.

We received an email asking us to send a rep, I went for LFW.

The email said that Steve Bernard who does the analytics blog and runs the LoftusIQ socials was being added to the guest list, along with Matt Winton.

The material point is, why was he there if he wasn’t representing a fan site, fan publication, or fan group.

It wasn’t an open meeting. It was invite only. It was supposedly for the CEO to meet reps of the different fan groups.

Asking why Winton was there, and why that twitter account fella was there, just representing themselves is the right question to be asking. Their attendance would be even more questionable if either of them were given a platform to speak and address the reps of the actual fan groups. Hopefully that did not happen

What I heard was this...

1)
The CEO is not ready to answer numerical questions, yet even in Dragon's Den, everyone knows you need them. He needs to know his accounts inside out.

2)
They admitted injuries were a problem after all. And CN was unhappy that we consided too many from set-pieces. What I read into that is expect transfers for 6ft+ players from now on. I notice current rumours are that we are in for a giant midfielder. I expect we shall do the same for a Keeper. Even for the Harry Amass rumours, he is 5.11, not small for an LB.

3)
Wouldn't answer the Car Giant question, which I would presume means we did put in a low-ball offer of like probably £50m. Which they of course rejected and then went to market for £100m. That's all a fantasy guess on my part.

zzzzzzzzzz

This is baseline analysis but the more I listen to CN, the more I am concerned. I genuinely think that he does know what he is talking about in some senses, I personally think and also, I get a jist from people who know him a little bit closer in the football world, that he is very much on the pulse of what is needed in the modern game. I worry though that he is really just a decent up and coming football analyst, the kind of bloke who should be reporting into a DoF/Sporting Director along with the rest of the data team. Providing us with ideas on the playing squad, the playing style etc. Not anywhere near the business side. But he has the keys to everything and that is terrifying. We talk about experience on the pitch, it's badly needed at this level too.
