There was an end of season debrief with the CEO at Loftus Road last night which I attended. We've whacked the audio on the Patreon, no pay wall on this so you should all be able to listen whether you've got a sub or not - please let me know if that's not the case.

I'll perhaps type the minutes up physically over the weekend if I've got enough in the tank...

Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry on 11:18 - May 17 by Stainrod

Why the obsession about who attended? We are not at primary school. There was a meeting with fans. Some (not picking on this post more than any other) just seem to want to criticise Nourry for the smallest thing.

Having waded through three pages of this thread I would be much more interested to read whether the fans who were there gleaned any information of any significance while they had the CEO there.

There are actually plenty of issues he does need to be held to account to:

Our appalling injury record - does he recognise that know it all Ben Williams has some questions to answer and more importantly what lessons have been learned for next season?

Is there any room in the kitty for transfers or is it dependent on sales? And is there any prospect of the major sale his model needs to show it is working?

Is there any realistic substance to the Car Giant reports re our reputed interest.

Can’t speak for others but far more interested in that stuff than whether Fred Bloggs was invited or what tone Nourry may or may not have adopted when answering some technical detail about season tickets.

My bad I concede for not being able to wade thru the audio but am surprised this thread is so focused on process and not substance.

Hi mate, the three issues you raise here, in summary...

Injuries - CN said "There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about this group, ultimately pretty much every partnership on the pitch was new this season. What this group has been able to produce has been exciting and interesting and ultimately we want to improve and build on that. If you ask me have we had many incremental steps forward this season versus last season I think we have. Could we have done better and are there things we need to improve this summer? 100%. Some of that has nothing to do with the players, some of that is making sure we have our significant and key players available more of the time. Some of it is... set pieces this season we haven't been good enough, we have to address that if we want to make another 7/8/9 points up the table to be in the top eight conversation next season.

"Please don't think we do anything other than sleep, breathe and eat QPR, 19/20 hours a day. Have there been reviews of certain situations that have resulted in certain players missing time? Yes. Did we have review meetings the week after Ipswich? Yes. Are there areas people are going to go deeper into in the next couple of weeks to then come together so four weeks before we start pre-season we have a clear plan? Yes. Know that we know that we have to try and squeeze absolutely everything we can out of every situation possible for us to be as competitive as we can."

Player sales - CN said that "probably the best way to check the temperature rather than mark your own homework is how many offers we get for some of our players over the course of the summer transfer window. I'm a realist in that regard, we can say we think we're doing well, we've brought players in and they've scored goals and that's great, but ultimately the market decides what those players are worth and then it's up to the board to decide this summer ultimately what direction they want to go in terms of when we get those offers what our strategy will be in terms of player trading over the course of the summer. There is a desire to try to keep this core group together for the coming season without negatively impacting the club's future financial sustainability which is why we've adopted this approach.

"I appreciate the point of view (that experienced players are important) and certainly there are teams that have got promoted out of the Championship with very experienced squads and there are teams that have had success, in terms of Sunderland, having a Luke O'Nien, Mepham and Browne and that was it in terms of significant Championship experience. There is no written rule that you need X experience to be successful in the Championship. If being a good Championship team was anything to do with age then we would have had a worse season this season than the previous season because the team got younger. Ultimately it will be down to how the head coach sees the squad versus the budget we have available, decide what the priorities are and work from there with Andy Belk, Julien to define those things.

"We have an ownership group that has the highest ambitions for this club, but doesn't want to do it by gambling the bank in one season signing 5/6 guys on loan for no return if you don't go up, or signing a bunch of guys who are 'in the prime of their career' and that gamble doesn't pay off. They want to do this incrementally and they believe signing young players is the right way to do that and I agree with them."

Car Giant - couldn't speak about at this time.

Just listened and his tone to Clive was quite frankly embarrassing . It's a shame more people didn't jump in and back Clive up a bit tbh

Out of interest was there any chat about pre season and any hint of where it will be this year ?

I'm not sure I'm the most popular person in that room at the moment mate TBH with you, but I appreciate the support and kind words.

Pre-season was one of the things I had on my list but decided to leave, apologies. No word on that.

Comes from being a proper journalist. If you aren't cynical over what interviewees tell you, then you wouldn't be doing your job.

Thank you Clive, appreciate you taking the trouble both to go and to transcribe the quotes.

Mildly encouraged re the review into injuries, he seems (unlike Williams) to finally acknowledge what most fans have been saying for a long time now.

Re sales - am surprised by his comment about keeping the core group together. If we are (sensibly) looking for incremental improvement rather than betting the ranch on promotion then tbh I would have thought everyone was up for sale at the right price. But tbf maybe he just doesn't want to sounds weak when other clubs inquire about our players.

Think I acknowledged that in my original post mate.

But this threat does highlight the problem with those fans forums - that the focus become the Elerslie water pressure (or this year, the scanning of ID for season ticket holders).

It turned out that Clive, being a proper journalist, had actually got the more substantive info.

Respectfully disagree, Dave.

It matters because meetings, their agenda, their minutes and their attendees should be open and honest. It's the decent thing to do and the wise thing to do.

Adding someone to a Fans Sites Meeting who doesn't have a fans site but who happens to be one of Nourry's biggest admirers is neither wise nor decent.

It undermines trust and positivity, when we could do with more of both.

It's questionanable but it just feels a bit petty some of the stuff on here at the moment digging people out for attending. For me who who was there is far less important than what was said

I think the original bits on here were about the up the rs bloke which felt a bit petty, he has quite a few followers and seemed to fit the remit.

With Matt I can understand a bit more the questioning of that one especially given hes always saying he doesn't want to get invovled in club politics and just wants to enjoy the games with his kids but again I don't have a real problem with him attending this kind of thing.

The bigger issues I had on the meeting was on the season tickets which was really poorly handled and the excuse for raising prices and remove younger price categories is complete bullshit.

Also saying we want to keep the squad together was odd when the whole idea is we develop and sell on. They really need to start selling to make this work

As others have said I thought he was good talking about why they didn't loan players out and that gave some context to it and felt understandable.

The core of the Sunderland group was put together in L1.

It took them a further three years to get promoted from the Championship.

Sunderland might have achieved promotion to the PL with a youthful squad but they had been playing together for 4-5 years and had acquired a lot of Championship experience as part of that journey.

Adding a couple of wise old heads to that mixture was the cherry on the cake.

We don't have any of that in our group right now.

Trying to compare us to Sunderland is laughable.

This is a very good point RangersW12 and also looking at it with a wider lens typical of how modern social media likes and wants polarisation. It keeps people talking and using its platforms but in the end it can lead to extremes… I firmly believe modern politics has been influenced by it massively. The middle has gone.

I’m not a fan of CN at all, but I certainly don’t want him to fail, as all I want is to see QPR do well.

So with the tagged post in mind, I’m going to try avoid adding fuel to the Pro CN/Anti CN Camp over the summer.

Yeh, it’s a shame, I saw this forum described as “AIDS” a week or so back. There’s nothing to be gained here, we should stand together. Everyone is allowed to think what they think and express their opinion.

The divide is basically people who lived through and experienced Paladini and are hyper aware about it happening again, and people who didn’t and can’t understand why were choosing to scrutinise rather than cheer lead.

As said elsewhere, I don't really care who goes. I certainly don't want to go. And I am very grateful for the audio.

But it's what I can't hear that bothers me and I am surprised it doesn't bother you, if what was said is your main interest. I do care that there are long off-the-record briefings at these and that some fans only representing themselves are trusted with info that you or I are not.

It's Paladini/Q Block Pete tackle, the actions of an insecure, manipulative board.
Confident clubs bring all fans with them.

It’s essentially an age thing. Eventually us old farts will trip off the edge the other side and the on-line cheer-leaders will be in charge. This is not a QPR thing, but a universal thing. Not wishing to be all political or in any ways controversial (quite simply using an analogy). Over here Sinn Fein are quite popular with the younger voters, who (thankfully) only know about the Troubles from their history books. Then you have my age group who lived through the Troubles going ‘whoa - hang on a minute’. So for those of us who lived through Paladini and all the sh1t associated with that, we are naturally cynical.
Also called accurate honest journalism, which will soon be a thing of the past too. See how isolated you have become in recent years, Clive? But don’t give in, or back down, cause this site MATTERS.

Thanks Clive for the recording.

The part of the content that really concerned me was the lack of acknowledgement that we need to replace the lost experience (aka age) in the squad. All our released players are the most experienced ones. Yes, great to have younger, more sellable players in the group (individually, and as an average etc.) - but they are not going to be sellable unless they are performing well in a somewhat successful team.
And that team is not going to succeed with Jimmy Dunne, Paul Smyth and Madsen as our chief Experience.
(And nothing against those players; big fan of all of them. But we need Steve Cook etc. less 3 years.)

But as is the case with EVERY generation ever, when today’s young cheerleaders become tomorrow’s critical middle aged, they will be just that. They’ll form opinions based on experiences they’ve been through not just what they think and hope. They’ll have dealt with chancers and bullsh*tters in their personal and work lives. They’ll perhaps be a little burnt. They’ll have another two decades of frustration with Rangers. And they’ll see things differently. They won’t like hearing that. They won’t believe it. They’ll think they’ll be different. And they’ll be confident they’re right now, so won’t change. Just like the teenagers and twenty year olds will in twenty years, when they’re forty, holding a different opinion to them.

I agree we need some ‘old heads’ and we have lost a lot of experience this summer (Cook the big loss imo) but worth remembering that ALL the players have a season more experience at this level under their belts. Chair is now an ‘old head’ but everyone has now got Championship experience, even the much maligned Walsh has 25 odd more games experience than 12 months ago. JCS (I know) and Edward’s have also clocked up experience along with the ones you mention. Varane and Madsen will be starting their third full season. As I say, I feel we need at least one addition with plenty of Championship nous (Dominic Iofra anyone?) but they are all more experienced than 12 months ago.

Agree with these latter posts. As much as I vehemently disagree with the kids' views, I understand where they come from. When I was their age I didn't care for the inner workings of the management much, it was all about the football and getting behind (admittedly, a much better one..) the team. My views in the long-run were proven to be drivel. I thought Bardsley was no good and Chris Wright the messiah, for lord's sake.

The most obvious thing for how it works was the Marti thing. Both age groups loved him, if you followed the management of the club with scrutiny like we all do it seemed fairly clear he was stitched up. If you don't because you are too busy being young and having fun rather than being old and worrying on this message board / groaning to get out of a chair, then why not take the club / Nourry at face value and see Marti as a snake?

OK we didn't have a social media platform to batter the oldies who may have disagreed, but probably would have done that too :-).

I wonder if other clubs have this age split? I bet they do. It would be nice if the two age groups could respectfully disagree without abuse, however. I am uncomfortable with them capturing things off this board and sticking it on social media to their followers to laugh at. We're all Rangers, and quite clearly they are the club's future and we are not.
