We had a rather fastidious chap in our team; a great advocate of cucumber cream moisturiser, immaculately coiffured hair, that sort of thing.
Our pitch, next to a pig farm, wasn’t always maintained in accordance with best practice and could be prone to occasional flooding. This often resulted in puddles of thick, gloopy mud, particularly in the centre circle area, where our friend had taken up position to intercept a hoofed clearance from the opposition keeper.
Misreading the trajectory, however, the ball landed some feet away, splattering our man with mud from head to toe.
He was absolutely apoplectic and launched into a massive, full-blown tantrum as his freshly laundered kit took the full force of the impact, insisting on leaving the pitch for nearly 10 minutes to sponge himself down and re-arrange his hair.

Not sure Barton's antics come anywhere near a grown man collapsing and holding his face in agony after an opponent's hand brushes his midriff? I find all "simulation" embarrassingly pathetic, I even find the act of "inviting contact" to buy a free-kick distasteful but accept some level of gamesmanship will be inevitable. BUT, feigning an injury to an untouched bodily part is beyond pathetic. My stance is hardened by the modern rule of stopping the game for any head injury but instead of players respecting the gravity of the situation they've grasped the opportunity to go down holding their heads even more so now.

1968 -69 season Home to Coventry City. Sorry ... that disastrous season. Lost 1-0 to Cov (as we did to most people). Allan Harris clattered the easily irritated Tony (not Mark - not sure he was born yet) a number of times, so much so that the mighty Tony chased Allan and, on a windy afternoon, unleashed a cataclysmic gob in his direction. The wind gods, who, as we know, all wear blue and white hoops, kept the aforementioned spittle high in the air to enable Mr Harris to effect his escape. The fluid bomb then turned in mid-air to splatter Mr Hateley who was frantically fleeing towards the Ellerslie Road Stand. That season, we didn't have much to laugh at...

I’m still annoyed when I see it back that the linesman conveniently missed Tevez’ part. He and Aguero were embarrassing. Still annoyed about how injury time played out from the poor goal to concede with the Dzeko header to not even really trying to kill the game after that. As much as I dislike United and the Derry sending off etc. I’d have liked to have been the villain.

I’m looking in to the future here but Coldplay at half time in the World Cup final will probably be it.
If Coldplay do perform, there will be a clip of the crowd and David Beckham will be seen cuddling his long time assistant Rebecca Loos and both will flinch guiltily away from the cameras.
