I think with the money we've spent, the players we've signed (particularly the strikers), the fact Stephan's had a year to get used to the club, build relationships with the players and so on, we should absolutely be aiming for a significant improvement on our league position from the last few years.
Breaking into the top half would be a good first step, but if we keep everyone fit and in form then there's no reason we shouldn't be challenging for the playoffs. | | | |

I personally am less enthusiastic.
Normally, am one of those with rosey tinted glasses on, and actually this season ahead could be the one that is more positive, but for some strange reason I feel 15th to 18th place is ours once more.
There is though most close seasons, a great deal of optimism and then our players take to the pitch and the doom mongers prophecies are sadly fulfilled.
Hopeful, but with a touch of reverting to type expectations.

We could fluke 8th place for the play-offs but we haven't got the squad or money needed to push beyond this.

Not remotely confident tbh. Keepers has undoubtedly improved, but that’s it. And we’ve lost experienced heads like Cook and Hayden.
Other clubs are spending £20M+ on players (Lankshear, Middlesborough) or selling players for £68M (Summerville West Ham)
It’s like we’re on a different playing field to the top end Championship clubs.
Signing a right back with an ACL isn’t going to change our season.
I don’t think we’ll be in too much trouble but we will be closer to bottom three than top eight I imagine as it stands [Post edited 21 Jul 18:20]

I think there is a real danger in us losing touch with the top half of this division if you think that Stoke have spent more than £21m on this season's squad so far. By comparison we've spent around £675K so far.
That said if Vale, Madsen, Burrell, Kone, Morgan, Dembele, Mbengue, Poku and Edwards power on this season they will be as good as anyone in the division. Hopefully Varane has a better season. If Dunne, Chair, Smyth can play the senior roles that will be good. Kemper and Lamptey could add more to the full back positions. Two hopefully better keepers. Who knows we may get a better part of the season out of JCS.
Then there is Obikwu, Kolli and Benny who hopefully will be pushing on.
For me, given the financial power other clubs have I would be surprised if we can get above 12th but it is a bit down to players that came in last season and even the season before that to push on at this level. |  |

Weat ham will win the league especially if they keep the likes of Bowen.
Wolves have recruited well and Burnley are always top 6.
Then we have the likes of boro,Southampton wrexham who will spend big again.
We will need to keep everyone fit and be very consistent something we havent done for 12 years now. [Post edited 21 Jul 19:26]

I`m quite optimistic ahead of the new season because the club now seem to have spotted where the squad need strenghtening. I would say a place between 12 to 8 are what should expect come next May [Post edited 22 Jul 19:12]

Yep, I try to be optimistic. But if you'd gone into the future and told me that Rangers will certainly not be playing Championship football in 2027-28, I'd have to say (right here right now) it's far far more likely to be League One than Premier League. Sadly. [Post edited 22 Jul 7:53]
