HUGHES & WILKINS 11:29 - Jan 9 with 2972 viewsgazza1

I would be quite pleased if TF announces Hughes as No1 & Wilkins as our Assistant.

Think Hughes has got the ticks in the right boxes and Wilkins plays the type of football that is good for me - he knows the game as well. Both are well respected around the world too.

Two proper ex players, 2 well know personal in football.

I'm quite happy with Hughes but don't want Wilkins anywhere near the club.
If Hughes comes it will be with Mark Bowen

Nowt wrong with Wilkins, knows the game very well, knows how the game should be played and could attract quality players.

Dont want him to hold the 'purse strings' though - been there & done that

Are you on drugs ? He talks a good game , he used to play a good game. But thats it. He has been an absolute disaster since he started coaching/managing. But then what would I know , I'm just a 'punter'.

I assume you mean "nowt wrong with Wilkins" apart from taking us to down and close to administration after blowing all the Les Ferdinand money on players like Ned Zelic?

Wilkins are you p#ssed , he screwed up the last time when he squandered the Ferdinand cash on mark Hately , waste of space IMO

I am actually quite happy with Hughes as gaffer...never usually that happy with new managers.. didn't really want Warnock to go, but also felt he was somewhat getting out of his depth.. I think Hughes could be a good move..think he has a bit of pull in terms of players..has managed signigicantly to have a name..and reputation, and played at high levels to earn respect.. of course, its a total lottery. and nothing with QPR turns out as you expect, we could sign Messi and he'd probably get injured and never play well again...
Can't think of anybody else who is available anyway that I would prefer. The Moyes suggestion I liked..but it ain't happening..

No never done drugs Smegma....

Wilkins done a good job as Asssitant at Chelsea......'Punters' as you put it Smegma need to move on....Wilkins has got 10 years more in him now and knows plenty about the game & plenty who are in the game. Knows what it is like to be involved in a top club which is what we want & need for the next 4 year plan.

Agreed, crap number 1 but a great coach, just keep him away from the money.

Definately, no money until he can prove he can handle it better.

have you lot forgotten that horrendous relegation under wilkins not only did he make terribe signings the football was dire and he thought the likes of trevor challis and matt brazier were good enough to play in the premiership and what legends they went on to be in the game .no thanks

I understand the logic and in theory it looks like a good idea, but I wonder how Hughes would feel not being allowed to choose who he wants as assistant.

"We're signing an England international" followed by Mark Hately walking through the door. That killed it for me.

I would be surprised if Wilkins did come - be very pleased if he did but I think Hughes would bring his old team including Bowen.

You can all quote crap signings....NW had done too bad in those stakes either....PVM, Chimbonda, Puncheon, Perone, Dyer and a few more so it happens - dont make them bad Managers though.

Anyway it is 10 years plus down the road so we dont know what would happen now.

Wilkins is not a coach. He puts the cones out and did some translating. That's it. Awful coach, awful manager and not as 'nice' as people would lead you to believe. Agree about Hughes though.

Bare bones.

Wilkins would be a great number 2 but Mark Bowen is the usual number 2 to Hughes.

I'll post what I put on the other thread.

This was a man sacked by Kevin Keegan at Fulham and whose role at the scum was to collect the bibs at training and tell everyone what 'smashing young chaps' they all were.

He was a great player for us but a disaster as manager. He was a good pundit on Football Italia in the nineties but has now become a parody of himself. Currently making a living on past reputation.

On Wilkins, whereas I don't see him as a manager, saying he was a bib picker upper at Chelsea simply isn't true. One thing the guy can do is bring on young players and motivate senior players. I wanted him in to assist Warnock but perhaps he'll get a chance under whoever comes in.

Never knowingly right.
