I think he has got better over the last few games and was one of the few who earned his pay yesterday Great header from the corner. Time for some on here to get off his back me thinks

Sorry old chap but I have to disagree

Perch is garbage
Slow, weak and cannot pass to save his life
Also looks mentally frail

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I thought yesterday Phillips' performance in front of him, defensively, was embarrassing and gave the full back no chance at all, always at least 2 v 1. That said, perch was poor and has been poor all season IMO.

Shocking defending by Phillips for the second goal. Drops back defensively then when the ball gets cut back he just stands there doing nothing.
Ned lost his man but no way the guy should have been able to get that cross in

I wonder if Garbutt needs his house cleaning or something? Maybe Phillips might like to do that for him as well.

cant agree. I honestly though he was going to ask Mcormack for his autograph after the game when they shook hands , or ask to carry his boots and give him a rub down.

exudes weakness and servility from every pore. His eyes Always looks like he has been chasing the dragon when a close up of him befouls the tv screens.

I cannot believe we have him, Traore and Konchesky at the club at the same time. what are the chances of that. Like getting mumps , dropsy and consumption all at the same time.

"Mentally Frail"...good call. Poor bloke seems to completely collapse when things aren't going right. Actually I think he has talent, but not suited to the argy bargy and pace of the English game.

Did someone say Perch used to be a centre-back? I noticed him drifting into the centre a few times yesterday.

I'm yet to see what he does which Harriman or Furlong couldn't have done.

which caused more problems because Phillips refuses to drop back into the space to cover him when he does that.

Is the op on drugs
He is sh1t , he was at fault for two of the goals yesterday and as for that diving tackle
I've seen better from a Sunday league player
I called it in August when we signed him that he was crap, all I got so was that he was wigans player of the year two years running ,
Pay him up and get rid

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

It did appear at some points that we had no left side at all which led to them having 2 or 3 unmarked players in our box with Perch and Philips were awol. They could have had 5 or 6 easily.

Perch has slowly started to improve and utilise his experience a little more, so hopefully that will continue. But he and Konchesky (or whoever the full backs are) are pretty much being hung out to dry by their respective wide man in front of them.

No matter how good or bad you are, it's going to make life very difficult if that's the case. In our case, we've had an out of form Perch who's struggled to find his feet, and an ageing Konchesky — so it's the worse possible scenario in not giving them enough protection.

Perch actually made a crucial block in the first half at 0-0 and at that time, I was hoping it would be a wake up call for us. But they scored shortly afterwards and it obviously went downhill rapidly from there.

Totally agree with you on the lack of protection, and Phillips was unbelievable yesterday, but I'm not sure about Perch using his experience. Yes, a crucial block yesterday, but what about that moment in the second half when he came flying out of position and launched into a ludicrous sliding tackle, completely missing the man and leaving us short in a situation that should have been a goal. Had he connected, he'd have been sent off. He was also sent off at Derby in mindless circumstances.

The thing about Perch that amazes me is the amount of times he's back on his heels. Stationary, not expecting it, surprised suddenly by something that's happening ten yards away. Most of his fouls and bookings come from this.

For their third goal Perch was so badly out of position that I thought he had joined the queue in the club shop to get his name printed on the back of his shirt. A woeful player and one of those signings that when he turns up at your club you know you have problems. Similar to signing one of the Sodje brothers. When you sign one of those you have run out of options.

For that experience comment, I actually meant in general, as in, the last few matches he has covered his centre backs a few times and made some pretty decent challenges.

The wild challenge was that, for sure, but then we got caught so high up the pitch and left oceans of space in behind, so he probably felt he had to try and nail him and missed. Just a poor attempt in the end, but he should not be left in that circumstance in the first place. There's no way he should be there in a one versus one where a player can skip past him, or beat him fair and square and be marauding on towards goal.

He is on his heels a lot, you're right. Why that is, is hard to say. Sometimes when players do that, they're not actually as fit or sharp as they could and should be, or it's also a sign that the starting positions and depth is incorrect as you give yourself an awkward amount of distance to cover in order to engage (leaving yourself in too many stick or twist scenarios)... maybe it's a lack of pace that makes him do it?

I never actually fancied Perch in the first place, as in, in terms of what I'd seen of his career prior to him coming here. But he seems like a decent enough lad, so hopefully it'll turn for him on a more consistent basis.

I thought that he was dreadful yesterday. Others, granted, were worse - but he still had a shocker.

He's not been great thats for sure and I don't rate him as anything special. But I'd be loathed to chuck Furlong in with the lack of support he would get from Phillips. He'll be pushed in to all kinds of situations and he will make mistakes as a young player.
