Florist go for Martin O'Neill 11:47 - Jan 14 with 5403 viewstoboboly

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46864924

Nottingham Forest are set to appoint club legend Martin O'Neill as manager to succeed Aitor Karanka, reports BBC Radio Nottingham.

The 66-year-old, who played 371 games and won a European Cup among his honours at Forest, ended his spell as Republic of Ireland boss last November.

He returns to a Forest side who are ninth in the Championship, four points outside the play-off places.

O'Neill becomes Forest's 11th manager since June 2011.

I can see them getting top 6 now under O'Neill

Poll: Of the 3 linked away, who do you think will still be a QPR player come February?

O'Neill's a good manager, certainly at this level.

I thought that he looked frayed during the last year in the Ireland gig, though. He became surly and overly negative, especially in his dealings with Irish TV. There was also an unusual amount of chatter from the Irish players after he left, criticising training and the lack of tactical planning.

If he's sufficiently rested, he should do well at Forest. If not, and if he behaves like he did in the final year then I can't see him inspiring much confidence in his players.

He should give them a lift, at least initially with his motivational powers. If he brings in Keane there will be ructions and it could all go pear shaped in the future.

Karanka to O'Neill... it won't be the tactics if they do improve.

I like O’Neil but he is finished in management his Ireland team played awful football, he won’t last long there the games moved on from his Leicester and Celtic days

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I have a lot of time for O'Neill. When we was skint he filled our ground with Celtic preseason. He was quoted as saying ' when I managed Wycombe in non league, QPR would play us preseason to raise funds, I never forgot that'.

Never knew that - he's gone up in my estimations !

But I do agree with a couple of others that he's had his day as a manager

No idea if he’ll do well, but I can’t think of a single player who ever thought bad things of him, and he managed both Stan Collymore and Roy Keane, who would slag off their own mothers to the press for burning the fish fingers.

I think if he can do well again anywhere it would be at Forest and i certainly wouldnt begrudge him or forest as long as its not at our expense

I've always quite liked him (and secretly don't mind Forest, going back to the Clough era of decent football and two-fingers to the sense of entitlement of scousers and Man U fans) but I kind of feel he's had it.

He was making a name at Leicester when Gerry was at Spurs and Les was still playing. I think there''s just so many years you can keep the passion going. He's been managing for going on 32 years; Gerry Francis did 18, Venables 27, Mourinho looks shot after 18. Alex Ferguson did 39 years but for the last ten or so had very little pressure.

While there was a lot of those players in the squad ROI had a few Premership players like Coleman ,Long ,Maclean,Brady too and in his last year he sucked the life out of them.Plus he appears to hold a grudge against players and media alike which wont play well in today's 24 hour news cycles

I agree with that. From the admittedly-limited non-QPR English football I watched during O'Neill's reign I'd see some Irish players playing well for their clubs and executing basic skills well and then clamming up under O'Neill when playing for Ireland a few days later, afraid even to show for the ball or pass more than ten yards.

He was also incredibly ignorant to the Irish press on many occasions, which was sad to see as paranoia and over-defensiveness always is.

Hope he gets his mojo back. I suspect he's a decent skin.

I think he really needs to improve the squad with a least 6 new signings.

That will make it an even more happy camp

As LFW's resident Nottingham dweller, I can report that, despite his 'absolute mega club legend' status, the (ahem) "Forest faithful" seem distinctly underwhelmed.

His battles with Tony O Donoghue were must see tv Brian neither willing to give an inch .MON refused to use Coleman in his Everton role and only played the excellent Matt Doherty after an out cry on social media so that shows his lack of people skills IMO.I wont even mention Declan Rice lets hope MIck McCarthy can get him back into a green shirt but I suspect he will chose England and its hard to fault him they could win the Euros next time.
Hopefully he can have success at Forest because there is no playing for draws really its basically set up to win at all cost

I thought his behaviour towards Tony O'Donoghue was ill-befitting the man and the position, to be honest. I was surprised at him.

As for Declan Rice, I couldn't care less. Let him pick who he wants to pick. If you have to beg someone to play for your team - club or country - you're most likely wasting your time. No hard feelings either way.
