Where to now, and who’s making that call? Preview on 13:35 - Apr 5 with 2701 viewsR_from_afar

A tremendously depressing, yet accurate piece.

If I could say one thing to our board, it would be this (warning; it's quite a long thing): Take this club seriously, treat the job seriously. Put the business/financial side of things to one side for a moment and think about this, think hard about it: This football club has been a thread running through thousands of fans' lives, for years, in many cases - poor sods - decades. A constant, like the skin on the back of their hands. Always there. The club means a massive amount to those poor unfortunates, it's a passion, not some plaything, so when it loses, gets sanctioned or in other ways humiliates itself, it hurts people. It really does. They are haunted by it.

So think hard when making decisions and act as if it were your child or favourite pet whose fate was resting on that decision, because it matters to us - a lot - and it should matter to you. When QPR does something good, like snatching a draw from 2-0 down away, it creates a massive buzz that lasts for weeks. Do your job with pride and show you really care. Like we do.

And breathe....

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

It's funny (well it's not actually) but many years ago someone had exactly that conversation with the man who could do no wrong at the time..... the "new owner".

The response was "believe in us, the future will be great"
The initial surprise at a further statement made that most QPR fans with memories weren't worried about ex Chumpions League winners wearing hoops, that actually the memory of ABC and near oblivion was quite fresh; yeah that initial surprise was quickly covered up. He seemed taken aback and an almost audible "WTF do you mean you don't want glitz and glamour" fell out of his mouth.... he walked to the next PR opportunity in The Queen Adelaide with the words "just make sure the long term future of the club is safe - this is a great opportunity" echoing at his back.... he half turned and said again "trust me - we know"

The lying thick fcuker

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Since I got the score so badly wrong last week, what the hell... 0-3 to us.

Which board decisions over the last few years are you suggesting have been taken lightly?

Which board decisions over the last few years are you suggesting have been taken lightly?

Admittedly, we are not privy to all the planning and discussions which go on behind the boardroom door, but if you take the search for a manager this time round, based on what seems likely to occur, and last time and the time before, based on the candidates we appear to have assessed, can you honestly say that we undertook exhaustive searches underpinned by ongoing succession planning?

Of the candidates who appeared to be in the frame, Ollie was arguably the best qualified, but were all the right candidates in the frame? Ditto with McClaren, was the net really spread wide enough? He was a reasonable pick based on those we appeared to be considering, but....

Now, we seem to have targeted a small and very similar bunch, with not a single non-English manager being considered.

OK, so we don't have all the facts, but hopefully, you get my drift. If other clubs can at least consider overseas options, why can't we? Perhaps we are, I would love to be proven wrong.

Well if they have sat down and really given things some serious thought, done their due diligence and tried their very best then we really are in trouble for the foreseeable future.

In case anyone is interested, here's the Fernandes' manager's points per game:

Hughes 0.88
Redknapp 1.28
Ramsey 1.03
Hasselbaink 1.23
Holloway 1.15
McClaren 1.24

It shows Hughes in a suitably bad light, and Ramsey in an unsuitably bad light. I always limit Ramsey to the Championship games to strip the Premier results when he was appointed the caretaker manager to a team perceived as already relegated. Under that lens his results are 6-4-7, or a much healthier 1.27 ppg.
A shame that Redknapp comes out on top, but then, we did get promotion that season...

I don't see why, if the next appointment goes badly, Les has to automatically resign. Nobody has a crystal ball, somebody has to make a decision and it's almost certain to be a miserable failure. Les could be doing an amazing job. I don't agree with the corporate/political style viewpoint of 'the buck stops with him, he has to go'. No, he doesn't automatically have to go, it's a choice we have. There are many factors Les couldn't possibly do anything about, like referees and injuries. Things don't always have to be somebodies' fault.

So much of a muchness in terms of results.?

It seems the job of the manager at QPR is to sit in the hot seat producing the same results as all the other managers have done, until everyone forgets that he's just doing what the all the other managers done, and then he's sacked in the hope that we can find some other manager so we can pretend for a bit he won't do what all the other managers have done, until we realise he's just doing what all the other managers have done, and then we sack that manager too.

So the reason for our poor performances since Christmas are because McLaren picked the same players every game and the poor little loves are "too tired", but Norwich can win seven games on the spin with an unchanged team? Something doesn't make sense.

What's the alternative? Bumbling along just above relegation, saying "this is acceptable", until, a few points down and a division later, it ain't?

Ask Lee Hoos how much Championship status means to us. The money gap between Premier and non-league starts at the bottom of the Championship. And don't jump up, we won't have anything like residual Premier players in our squad compared to others that bounced back from there.

'What's the alternative? Bumbling along just above relegation, saying "this is acceptable", until, a few points down and a division later, it ain't?'

The alternative (what we're doing now) seems to be bumbling along just above relegation and periodically saying "this is unacceptable".

Ok, then while bumbling, and not saying "this is unacceptable", do you think the more likely progress was indicated upwards or downwards?

The imperative must be to not get relegated, surely?

Yes as you say, it's not as simple as just points per game. It also had to be considered against other factors like whether we were playing against premier or championship opposition and also against the wages that were being paid out at that time. Hughes and Redknapp should have done much better than they did, given that they were given the keys to the safe. Hasselbaink did pretty well from those stats but the football was dire. Holloway didn't have the money to spend that McClaren did on those loan players. And I agree Ramsey got an unfair deal from the fans compared to McClaren and Redknapp, for instance.

Minor point: I think the losses from Holloway's squad last summer and McClaren's loanees as about equivalent.
