What was with the choice of kit yesterday? Surely blue socks and shorts with home kit would have been much better?

Poll: Warburton, What's next?

It was odd. Perhaps the game should be replayed. Personally I think we should always have the Dennis The Menace away kit every season but I also think we should have an all black kit which a. mostly does the trick as an away kit and b. should be worn by us at home if other teams turn up with a black away kit, because teams that turn up at our's in a black away kit tend to beat us so if we see them coming with it we should whip it on so they can't.

Never knowingly right.

I think we should always have hoops home and away, but doesn't have to be Dennis away kit.

The aqua one, I just don't get. Yesterday even less so.

Puzzling that that was allowed to happen. The whole concept of contrasting kits seems to have escaped some people.

Struggling to tell who was who, just assumed Leeds were doing the attacking.

With a blue and white hooped home kit, the Dennis the menace away kit would cover all eventualities, but I guess they wouldn’t have a third kit to flog.

Just looked back at historical kits and wasn’t aware we’d dropped the hoops between 1953-59, what were they thinking of? Also, always wondered where the halves away kit came from, which I liked, seems it stems from the original St Judes era.

The FA are blind when it comes to colour😉

I remember watching some rugby league years ago and both teams were wearing white, black and amber almost identical kits. It was Braford and someone else I think. I couldn't tell who was who on the TV, so no idea what it would have been like playing in the rain and mud.

Also in Brazil 4 of the biggest teams play in combinations of black and white for all their kits, often resulting in two teams being hard to tell apart.

Why don’t they just stick with Denis the menace second colour for goodness sake? The club are happy to peddle the ‘hoops’ line all day long and then churn out cruddy second kits year after year which have no historic merit whatsoever.

...from memory the only clash with blue and white / black and red alternates was against Palace. That bright orange third kit from 1990 is still acid etched in my memory!

Another vote from me for the red and black beauty Dennis the Menace. Its just the perfect away shirt and with our new old crest back in circulation it would be awesome.
I would not mind seeing our blue and white hoops with blue shorts like we used to wear back in the 80s when adidas kept us looking sharp

I think they have said before it's a commercial decision. While it is definitely the most popular, a lot of people are happy to stick to the previous years kit of it's basically the same. Whereas while (for instance) the pink kit is less popular overall, it does mean that a number of people who aren't interested in the Dennis the menace kit want to buy it so overall sales are higher

Kit clash on 15:12 - Nov 3 with 2063 viewsMancR

Yesterday's choice of kit was a complete nonsense. Under floodlights it was really tricky to distinguish the two sets of players.
How many people would buy this minty monstrosity? It's a crap colour that clashed with the home team's kit more than our home strip- ridiculous 😡

Surely they would sell more second colours if it was an established kit? Certainly more than horrible pink or aqua equivalents.

Alternatively alternate between Dennis the menace and black and red quarters? Why the club has to introduce such crap alternatives is beyond me.

The political economy of away kits. It's a very poorly understood subject.

Hoos said that a few years back there was a huge clamour for the dennis the menace, so they did it, then sales were poor compared to other seasons. So we like the look of it, but don't buy it in any numbers.
Not sure what it was like at the ground, but watching the lowlights of the game, it didnt seem to be a huge problem.
Huge downvote on the above idea of a black kit, though. They are awful and cannot be seen easily at all. No team should wear them, it's idiotic, unless they have a strong fluorescent colour in the design (black and fluorescent orange hoops would be nice).

Bare bones.

My argument is that we always seem to get beaten by teams who arrive in a black away kit. If we had our own we could immediately change into it so they can't wear it. You see the logic here... for a Sunday?

I have a very mild colour blindness which never affects me at all. For me, yesterday on the stream, and also the lowlights, all I can see is 22 people in white running around. Bizarre experience

About 10% of the population has this - mostly males - so I think it is something that they should at least consider when making the match kit decision

Club shop manager will claim he designed it.

He also designed the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Great Wall of China.

that's weird. i always think we beat teams with black away kits! But that is possibly a false impression given by the time we trashed Blackpool on a hot opening day!

Who remembers that horrid lime away kit from the late 90s? Or that awful black and silver one at turn of millennium ?

Once again, it's as if they're actively trying to do things to deliberately spoil the game for everybody.

One of the crazy things that I've learned from this thread is that there are two Dennis the Menaces. a UK version and an US version. I was oblivious to the UK. Even more bizarre is that both characters were created independently on almost the same date.

I am not colour blind at all but watching on the computer it did at times look like 22 players on one team and no opposition! Surely it's the ref's responsibility and say so that the colours are too similar and order the away team to change??

I do like it - but obviously these days kit choices for away games are largely driven by commercial departments. There are plenty of games these days where an away team can quite easily wear their home kit, but wear the away kit anyway.
