Surely Palace can do what they want with their own money. Or be creative - send it to Macclesfield in the form of National Trust gift vouchers.

Or hold the trophy to ransom. If they’re barred from giving the money to the Macc Lads then then they sell the trophy to a Cash Converters in Croydon.

Football is a fantastic sport now sadly almost universally in the hands of and controlled by a cabal of monumental spunk rags.

There must be a department inside the FA that sole purpose in life is to seriously p!ss people off

When a precedent was set by Man U back in 2004, how can they now say no.... what an absolute out of touch entitled a'holes there must be in that place

Again, just another example of UK organisations ragebaiting the general public for no particular reason.

I feel for Palace and their fans. They are getting hammered at every angle. This is such a crap thing for the FA to do but they are top serving scum bags.

Never knowingly right.

I would suggest that Palace simply go ahead and make the payment.
Very much doubt if the FA would do anything in the face of such strong public opinion.

Cryptocurrency was made for predicaments like this. If you're reading, Steve Parish, I can help you.

I'm available to officially sign for macclesfield for one day if they'd like to sell me to palace for a couple of hundred thousand. Suspect I'd retire shortly after that what with being too old, too out of shape and not in the right country.

there shouldn't need to be a workaround, but can Palace not just donate a suspiciously similar fee to the gate receipts to the Macclesfield equivalent of the Tiger Cubs?

Can we not knock it?

In a world where Chelsea could sell hotels and their womens team to themselves, this is ridiculous. Can they not just buy £50,000 of raffle tickets or whatever from them?

Meanwhile, absolute crickets on the World Cup ticketing.

Yep, someone at Palace is being a bit of a bedwetter.
As suggested above, there are loads of ways around this if they really want to.

I wouldn't be too hard on Palace. I don't think they are the villains here.

I guess the rules around irregular payments to opponents (or 'bribes', in plain English) are very strict and the penalties related to it are very severe. So I can understand Palace being cautious.

- And just to be clear I'm not suggesting there was anything improper about the Macclesfield v Palace game!

But I do wonder if it's Man City who 'encouraged' the FA to take a hard line on this. Man City got a lot of flak for not gifting Exeter their share of the gate from their tie, and it might suit them to say their hands were tied and they had to comply with the rules.

On the other hand it could be the bookies who are suggesting this sort of thing should be discouraged.

But I'm sure there have been situations in the past where a club has waived its share of the gate. Will the FA be looking into those cases?

If memory serves, when we played Derby in the 2014 Championship Playoff Final there was talk of an agreement between the clubs that the loser on the day would keep all the gate money as compensation for missing out on promotion. Can we now ask Derby for our money back, with interest?

The City v Exeter scenario was very different.
Instead of having a private discussion with City, the Exeter chairman decided to voice the suggestion of receiving the full gate receipt publicly, almost painting City into a corner. He was quite rightly told to sod off.
This is Palace, presumably wanting to do it, just being a bit limp in how they achieve it.
