Staying off the beaten track a little in a small village called pastida, hotel is small and family run, got complimentary beer on arrival, biggest swimmer my pool on the island apparently complete with diving board and slide( 12 foot deep)
Could live here like a shot, I do a hard manual job and to say I'm so relaxed I'm horizontal is an understatement, just ventured into the village for lunch had a Halloumi salad and a couple of local beers .As long as you don't want to behave like a typical Brit aboard I would recommend this place like a shot.

Sounds wonderful. I'm just back from a week in Mallorca, but it's too long since I was in Greece. Unfortunately, my Irish skin isn't up to the challenge.

We had a house a few miles outside Pollenca, last holiday before the twins go off to college. Lovely place but I was melting.

Only back a couple of weeks from Mallorca. Found it very very crowded this year, hence next near we're doing the old villa

Don't think I've ever been on a bad holiday in the Greek islands, also went Rhodes this summer, great place.

I guess it was pure chance the holiday coincided with the International break? We're off to Portugal next weekend, my wife most impressed I'm taking it during the football season.

The Algarve?
I love it there, particularly Carviero.

Off to Mount Subasio in Umbria Italy next Sunday morning, 3 Km from Assisi.

Peace quiet and not a care in the world, the Umbrian sausage incidentally is bleeding awesome in the scheme of things should there be anyone wondering what Italian sausages are like.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Ah Pollenca, my most favourite holiday place. Go there every year. The beach at Formentor is outstanding. No crowds (I always go end of May early June) food is great. Villa is like something from paradise.

Having visited St Lucia this summer I have decided that I would and will retire there. Much cheaper than Barbados and the people are just as fantastic. Probably the most beautiful place I have ever experienced.

Greece - nowhere to touch it mate!

If you have a spare day, check out the Flying Dolphins/Ferries from Rhodes Town and pop over to one of the smaller islands for lunch/dinner. How very civilised.

You'll thank me.

Felt very crowded here in Mallorca all this summer to be honest, starting to see a lot of snapback from some of the local residents here in Palma about too much tourism etc.

Can I ask those who have holidays in the Eurozone, how did the 17% fall in the £/€ rate affect you?

I ask as, now residing in France, it's really hampered our options.

I went to Spain in June and I'm going again in a couple of weeks. It's only me and wife going and tbf the euro hasn't made a difference (even though it obviously has). We are going self catering and got the holiday for £504 for 6 nights... which is very reasonable, that's a ba flight, case and apartment. I changed up some sterling to euros recently and it was 1.06. I got loads more a year ago, but I've not really been bothered by it. I can eat a breakfast and a dinner out there for a lot cheaper than here and get drinks cheaper too. People have said Europe is extra busy this year cos you can guarantee the weather. I also heard that if you change £100 at Gatwick, you get €98 euros. I like my holidays, need a break now and again and if it costs me £50 more so be it.

You can pay a lot more to get to centreparks just for a few days and it's costs more when your there and you can't guarantee the weather

Crete for me - Ayios Nikolaos in particular. My parents went there three times a year for around thirty years mainly because of the friends they made on their first visit all those years ago. The most generous and hospitable people that I have ever met.
Thassos is beautiful, as is Skiathos.
Jealous.

Thanks egham. I suspect that having a holiday where you want is more important to you than the cost and, as you say, Spain is still cheaper than theUk(and France, for that matter).

A word of advice to all. If you are going to change £ to Euros, plan ahead and shop around, well in advance. That applies, equally, if you have a Euro bank account. There's plenty of currency traders, some I can recommend, who will get you a far better deal than the High Street banks.

Was unlucky to witness the aftermath of a crash between a quad bike and a car today, saw some poor soul receiving CPR in the middle of the road.
