At the moment I'd play Osayi-Samuel - Freeman - Scowen - Wszolek because Luongo is struggling.

So Luongo and Eze then? I'm not against that. But I'm guessing that a lot on here would be. Make us interesting to watch going forward .

Yeah I'd rather use Eze as a forward rather than out wide, throughout the season there should be plenty of opportunities for Osayi-Samuel, Eze & Smyth so I wouldn't worry too much about leaving them out at the moment. I'd actually be more concerned about Luongo who I'm guessing is suffering from a lack of/interrupted pre-season.

Bright Osayi-Samuel on 12:57 - Aug 29 with 3924 views | bosh67 | I would go 4-4-2 with BOS left and Pav/Smyth right. Can't see McClaren breaking up that middle 3 though. As much as I like Eze, Freeman, Luongo and Scowen, this team screams out for 4-4-2 now. It has to have width. I would have Luongo and Freeman or Luongo and Eze, or Scowen and Eze, Scowen and Freeman. We can't accommodate all of them.

We played 4-4-2 against Wigan with Eze & Freeman out wide so McLaren has already broken up the midfield 3.

There is no way you can play Freeman as part of a midfield two. He’s never played that role in his career for good reason. Far too slow across the ground - Loungo and Scowen are already struggling with closing down opponents. Would be asking for even more defensive trouble which we can well do without. Plus his passing game leaves a lot of open questions and we can also well do without his consistent overplaying and conceding of possession in such a dangerous part of the pitch. Fair enough, but you've made your mind up without having ever seen him play there, I think in some games he'd be fine there and in others he wouldn't. But what I do know is that Freeman on the right doesn't work, he looked so uncomfortable there vs Wigan so if he can't play CM then it's a straight up choice between Freeman & BOS on the left.

If we look a what a central midfielder needs to do, especially in a two man role, we can say that a player should be able to; 1. Pass the ball to team mates quickly and effectively, and retain the ball keeping things ticking over. Requirements: touch, pass and move 2. Close space down quickly and win the ball back through strong and successful tackling. Requirements: pace, energy, tackling 3. Be good in the air and challenge for those high midfield balls from goal kicks or general game play. Requirements: good leap, strength, heading ability I just don’t see any of these in Freeman. So I guess I’m interested in what are you seeing that makes you believe he can perform there?

Agree with this - obviously would be nice to get Eze as many minutes as possible.
Bright Osayi-Samuel on 21:55 - Aug 29 with 3472 views | Dorse | We have wide players - I don't believe playing Freeman / Eze wide is a better option than BOS, Smyth or Wszolek. If they are out wide, they aren't in the middle to receive the ball where everyone agrees they're more effective. Wells and Hemed are offering more movement and options for wide players to hit than we've seen since Austinho. I expect Schteeve to set up as 451 away but I still don't think he'll go for BOS and Wszolek / Smyth out wide. Expect Wells on the left and one of Freeman / Eze starting right and Hemed leading the line. I suppose it will depend who he thinks might protect the fullbacks best.
