Injuries? 08:59 - Feb 20 with 1275 viewsozranger

I know we are all gutted after the end of last night, but not one word on Smith. He still won a lot of balls in the air and threw himself around and then, out of the blue, he was not coming out in the second half. Was he sick, injured or what? Which brings me to the others - Rangel and Cameron. Why were we told that they would be back in February when there is no sign of them at all and I am wondering if we will see them before mid-March at the earliest? I just hope the injury to Freeman is not that bad. We seem to be the source of our own downfall at present. A combination of playing the same players each game, the need to farm out our youngsters so that they will be ready to come in next season or later and the Cup run that has created a backlog of games has brought about the tiredness and possible injuries that put us in this position. I will say one thing. I am quite impressed that we have a bunch of players who throw everything when on the park and yet survive for so long without injury. Those physios and others in the back rooms working on the players need to be thanked.

I thought it was pretty obvious Smith was exhausted. As we saw last season, his body can't handle a run of games. Absolutely the right decision to take him off - it worked, too.

Bare bones.

Replacing Smith with Eze did not work. We changed our formation and way of playing. Hemed would have been a better replacement.

Hemed looks unfit and uninterested to me. Scored the penalty, that wasn't a penalty though really looks way off what we are looking for from a Premier League loanee.
I don't think Wells is enjoying the two up front with Smith, it's long balls and floated crosses to the big man and the game passes his by - our first equaliser didn't involve Smith and was proper football.

Wish I could be like David Watts

We seemed to play much better football in the second half so I tend to agree that it did work as intended but lady luck was again against us.
They should have been down to ten men and we should have taken one of those very good chances.

He's been out two and a half months injured and recovering from a hernia op, of course he's unfit and I'd disagree he looks uninterested. You only get match fit playing matches so in the short term while he builds up his match fitness again we're maybe going to have to get used to some shortcomings. Given his career record (he's a 1 in 2 international striker after all) he can still be a massive player in this division for us. I see similarities with Helguson when he first joined us.
