I remember some wag on the Loft that day: “Oi Rangers, looks like the hoops have come out in the wash”. We played in the white because we thought it would invoke the glory of Wembley 67. Also played in white at home to West Ham in the replay next round (second mention of the night). Pretty sure we played in hoops 5th Round v Forest.
Cor, that brought back memories. I used to watch them at Lower Mead in the late fifties/early sixties. Charlie Townsend, Hugh Lindsey and Arthur Peel. Then ten years later I played in the same team as Arthur Peel, he was about twelve years older than me and had lost most of his speed but still had a trick or two up his sleeve.

I played with Charlie a few times in the Chesham sunday league in the early '70's.
His brother-in-law was the manager & Charlie played if needed. I think that, at the time, he was the most capped England amateur international.

Yes, Charlie holds the record for the most appearances at Wealdstone (514) and George Duck (who played in the same Millwall South East Counties League team as me) is their record scorer with 251 goals.
