Well we got beat today , but I can see improvement in the team this season. Its a slow process but I think we are heading in the right direction. I'm pretty pleased with this squad of players , I think it definitely has potential.
Having just spent a few days in Reykjavik it brought back some memories of when I was last there. In September 1984 when we played KR Reykjavik in the UEFA Cup First Round. Apparently I was one of only 68 supporters who went to that game. We had a great time and some funny stories. Beer was still illegal in Iceland then although we were able to find a couple of speakeasy’s that sold it. Club Hollywood being one of them- I think they were able to sell it as it was under the auspices of the American Airfiorce- I think Keflavik Airport was still officially an American Airport Base then. We stayed in a hotel called Hotel Esja which was very close to the ground. The Hotel is still there but is now part of the Hilton Group. I actually went in there and got speaking to the bloke on the desk and when I mentioned Club Hollywood he smiled and said that his mum had often attended there in the 80’s and had many good nights there. The game itself was remembered for a couple of things. We won 3-0 but also that at the time I think it was the lowest ever European Cup attendance- 1,600 - people stayed away due to the impending Hurricane Diana which they thought was due to hit the island but never actually did. However I digress, I think there is something else this game should be remembered for but I may be wrong . I’m hoping that someone on this site could put me right- it’s been nagging me for over 40 years! The fact that Ray Eaton in his excellent book of 50 memorable matches didn’t mention it suggests I may be wrong……… but here goes. I think that with the starting line up of: Hucker, Dawes, Fereday, Wicks, Fenwick, Micklewhite, Fillery, Bannister, Stainrod and Gregory- QPR are the only English team to have ever fielded 11 English Players in a European Cup game. Bearing in mind that in those days and the 70’s, 60’s and 50’s there was always an obligatory Welshman, Scotsman or Irishman. In the grand scheme of things it’s not that important but I wondered if anyone can help me scratch this itch!
Does anyone else chant this in the middle of the night when they can't sleep, or is it just me? The folk of Hornsey Road will be suitably chuffed, and surely know about the exploits of our prolific Jamaican. I sent a voice message to my other half on the other side of the world tonight with the chant, I can't stop it
Especially after we score the second. I note two things, he spends time in The Askew, and apparently 1968's opinions aren't worth taking into consideration, secondly, at 19.59 into the vid, the banner - North West London R's - Kentish Town. Good to know we have another fan over there.
Last time we drove to Middlesbrough we got held up on the M1 motorway and got to the ground Five minutes before bloody kick off, we then promptly lost 4-0.
Tomorrow I shall stay at home and continue coughing and sneezing, by the way I done a match thread last season and we won at Cardiff.
I went in the William Morris early and they had no draught beer - no ale, stout, lager or cider. I asked for a bottled beer but nothing. I asked for a glass of Savvy Blanc, no luck so left with my legs around my tail. They said the system was down, How can handpumped beer be dependent on a “system” ? Been like it 2 days apparently. They were just selling food.
Although we've not officially announced the ticket prices for this match West Ham have on their official website. Adult tickets are priced between £10 and £30. I presume we will be charged somewhere between these amounts.
