Another myth buster…

Eberechi Eze was 19 years old when he went on loan from Queens Park Rangers to Wycombe Wanderers.

He joined Wycombe on 30 August 2017, and since he was born on 29 June 1998, he was about 19 years and 2 months old at the time.

Ok, but for what reason does he have an off the record / confidential chat with fans?

From his perspective, I mean. What is his ultimate aim and goal of that? If it’s even possible to know that is…. Does he actually explain why he is doing that?

On what basis is it justified to hold a confidential discussion with a select group of fans versus addressing the entire fan base?

It is not only a calculated leadership choice, but symptomatic of an organization that breeds widespread mistrust. Par for the course, it seems.

My guess? Attempting to keep a select group of influential fans “onside” via special privileges.

Those players you mention were all signed by Nourry. So they get a stay of execution.

It’s not people skills. It’s about fundamentally being a decent person, a good human being. The way people treat others is a direct reflection of their own character.

This, with bells on.

Eveything, eveything is for show. But behind the scenes, it is very different.

Or Ruben overruled.

And that’s also part of the ego issue that presents itself again and again and again.

Also disagree on Adamson. Despite a shaky start, he grew into the game and did not look out of place given it was his debut. More comfortable on the ball than Mbengue on that showing, which is not difficult, but welcome. But regardless, right back needs strengthing, along with left back. And centre mid. Same as it is every season. We just aren’t good enough on the all in these positions, certainly if we want to execute the hame model that is.

Mbengue - Whats the viewpoint on this guy...

Not a first choice right back if we want to progress. As ever, both full backs a problem position.

Both full back positions have been a problem position for years now. As has centre midfield. Needs resolving this summer if we want to progress.

Quite, full backs are so important.

And they are especially important to the stated club game model and the “technical qualities” that Nourry regularly alludes to.

A game model that we have largely been unable to execute in fact (we haven’t won a game with more possession for an eternity). Because key enablers to that model are centre mids and full backs who are technically sound and comfortable on the ball. Those 4 positions - both CMs and both full backs - are absolutely key.

So even if JamesB1979 doesn’t think this is a necessity to the stated club model, I would wager the club most certainly do, and will likely keep iterating and shaping the squad accordingly to keep moving forward and strengthening.

Nobody said they were expecting Roberto Carlos, least of all me. So no need to reframe it to suit your own point because the original point I made still stands.

I repeat - if the club have ambitions of top 6, then a full back who is comfortable on the ball, and good going forward is a real requirement not a nice to have.

Technical ability is the hardest to coach, you typically either have it or you don’t. It’s why our DCMs (Field, Hayden, Varane) can’t play back to goal, and receive the ball in tight spaces, spin, and play forward. Despite being in the game years and training every day. Great defensively, but technically they are all weak, and it holds us back as a team.

Sinclair Armstrong is another case in point. Most said he could develop technically, but reality is he can not. Not to the level needed anyway. You might be able to go from a 3-4 out of 10 technically to a 5-6. But it isn’t enough as the bar is so low to begin with.

As for Mbengue, he undoubtedly has good characteristics, and has been a good signing - no debate there. But we will highly likely need a lot more from the full back position if we are to progress. Same goes for LB. Need more quality on both sides.

Not harsh at all. He’s a good defender, and has been a good signing, but is a weak link on the ball and going forward. It’s there for all to see and has been clear all season.

Any club wishing to progress into the top 6, and wishing to retain possession better, which is us on both counts as I understand it, needs to be looking at more quality at right back. Mbengue would then fight it out, as opposed to being auto first choice.

With Mbengue it’s not just his inability to cross the ball, he’s technically lacing overall .

His first touch and technique regularly slows or breaks down play on the right side. He’s a weak link and I’d be amazed if the club are planning on him being first choice next season if they wish to retain possession better and climb the league.

Reminds me of Sinclair Armstrong but at RB, all pace and power, but zero touch and technique.

Mbengue is not a first choice right back if the club have ambitions of top 6 next season. Good defender but technical ability and footballing quality is seriously lacking. Struggles on the ball and is a weak link.

As ever we need two quality full backs and more quality on the ball in CM.

I don’t think anyone is particularly sellable - and especially at a valuation that is hard to turn down - so I’m personally expecting everyone to stay.

The big two Madsen and Burrell would have surely attracted interest, and commanded / negotiated a fee that would have worked for all parties, but injuries have likely scuppered that.

The likes of Morgan and Kolli will be attracting interest, but with both under longer term deals, and nowhere near their development ceiling and maximum valuations, the club would be mad to sell at this point.

So for me, I’m expecting an as you were situation. Field will probably be sold, and possibly Saito if they have any sense (especially with both Sutton and Scarlett left wingers coming through), and that would make up the budget.

Having criticized Kone’s erratic hold up play and touch this season, only fair to say his hold up game today was fantastic. Shows he does have it in him, he set the bar today.
