All that to save 20 minutes, apparently. |

Feels to me West Ham had them over a barrel as the Olympic legacy people were desperate to avoid a white elephant so pretty much agreed to anything, as it's better than nothing. |

I remember during our few years in the PL just over a decade ago 'ammers fans giving it the "we need to move", "the Boleyn is too small for us", "we're massive innit", "we won the world cup"', and all that hullabaloo. Be careful what you wish for...... |

Got to feel sorry for Hearts. Top most of the season and a couple of dubious penalty decisions (Hearts & Celtic both at Motherwell) defined the title. |

If Hearts do go on to win the title, any Celtic fan who begrudges it have to simply be the most entitled, sour graped person on the planet. Same for Rangers if they were to be in the same position. Hearts have been great all season and taken almost a lifetime to get there, let them have their moment in the sun before it reverts back to the same old boring Old Firm dominance [Post edited 16 May 13:23]

I think the big problem is inconsistency. IIRC the same VAR guy officiated a Hearts game recently and didn't give an identical handball/penalty to Hearts in a game they drew, 2 points dropped and that would have meant Celtic would need to win by 3 clear goals at the weekend. To me that needs asking why he gave it last night but not the other week? I'm not surprised people are claiming conspiracy. |

Apparently part of the Palace-to-Arsenal deal for Eze was that Palace would get an extra £10m if Arsenal win the PL this season. Who are Arsenal playing on the last day and more than likely may need a win to secure the title........ The conspiracy theorists are already out in force saying this was a known potential scenario when they bought Eze and therefore added the bonus in. Now, who would surely think that Palace will roll over in a dead-rubber game for them and pocket £10m..... (this would need to then offset the difference they may miss out on by not potentially being a place or two higher in the table) |

In the beginning I kinda hoped VAR would take the pressure off the ref but it seems to now have absolved themselves of any responsibility. Don't make the call? That's OK because the VAR team will tell you if it needs to be looked at. [Post edited 12 May 11:35]

"1) B'hawood must have one the the most aggy set of fans in the game - lots of 'geezers;' sniffing up and fighting amongst themselves... Blokes with their families and kids seriously being unpleasant. felt sorry for a lot of the kids there..." On a slight aside this seems to be endemic. I took my daughter to a kids party in Waterloo the other week and while the girls were belting out off-key (not that I'm any better) karaoke songs I dipped into the Brewdog next door to have cheeky pint and some burger & chips. The place was full of families with young kids & kids in buggies and the parents were taking no notice of what the kids were doing and were all 'hyped-up' (the parents that is) and then I realised.... it was the Chelsea v Leeds FA Cup semi final on the screens. |

The problem is it's humans interpreting the rules and what they have seen so there will always be differences. VAR is just basically more 'refs' so the problem is multiplied. Ether you have a fully automated system with no humans involved (I understand there's a bigger picture here, software/programming/implementation etc) or you don't. We've just gone form one Ref to four (the ref + 3 VAR). Go back to just the ref & linos. It's got out of hand even though i see they were at least trying, but it's not working. The problem is that Pandora's box is open and by closing it up again someone somewhere will have to admit it didn't work and no wants to do that because it's all about saving face. So what, I think it's more human to admit something didn't work out, even with the best intentions, and to roll it back and maybe re-think again. [Post edited 11 May 12:24]

We spend £15m therefore we should progress, right? But, and bear with me here, maybe spending £15m is just to stand still, avoid going backwards/down? Everyone else will be spending too so it just levels everything out. More money comes in from new tv deals, increased ticket/merchandise/catering/hospitality etc prices but then players demand more money. We stand still. I don’t know what the answer is either. |
