| Forum Reply | FA Cup Replays Scrapped at 20:40 18 Apr 2024
I think a big problem about TV choices for FA cup matches is because TNT Sports show all the big clubs live in Europe and Sky Sports have all the live Premiership games. So when ITV or BBC have the FA Cup they use the opportunity to show the big teams as it is about ratings and they know more people will watch Man Utd v Liverpool than a league 2 team v championship opposition. There is a certain irony that Klopp has been moaning about Liverpool having too many games and once he has gone there will no longer be FA Cup replays. |

I should add one pleasing aspect of both Premier League teams getting knocked out tonight is that it probably scuppers the prospect of 5 Premier league teams being in the Champions League. Bad enough finishing 4th to get in without fifth place also qualifying from the best league in the world according to Sky. |

Perfect tactics by Madrid for the occasion. City have scored three goals in just about every Champions League game this season including doing it in Madrid. If they attacked City tonight then chances are City would score three again so parking the bus to deny them the space was sensible. Once Madrid got the early goal they could sit back. Had City got it Madrid would have had to come out and could have been picked off. It's all about winning at this stage, not pleasing the neutrals watching on TV and the Manchester public. |

When you see the quality of Palmer's finishing for that lot up the road it is galling seeing the joke forwards we have. Palmer has got 7 goals in two home games, more than any of our players can manage in a season. Makes my blood pressure go into overdrive watching our feeble efforts on goal. |

I blame myself for the latest downturn. After victory in Swansea I declared on here that with 6 games to go it would not be a good time for us to go on one of our favoured 6 game winless runs. Three games later that is where we appear to be. The problem with the Preston visit is we won up there and that usually means we won't win the return at home. Getting a double is something this very limited team seems incapable of doing. For all the talk of an upturn since Marti arrived it will be irrelevant if we still go down. People can blame Ainsworth with justification but how do you explain that we win away at Cardiff and Middlesbrough under useless Ainsworth and lose the return home games under Marti the messiah? At the end of the day it probably hinges on the attitudes of the players and their limited ability so if they down tools on yet another manager as they are prone to doing then we could drop. I hope for better in the last three than witnessed in the three games just gone. |

Strange how it pans out. Plymouth sack the manager and the interim manager gets 7 points in 3 games with only one goal conceded while our cretins return to their default mode of general incompetence over the same 3 game period. Still it probably didn't help that our deadbeats had to travel London to Plymouth, back to London and then up to Hull. Probably too tiring for them. They looked lethargic to me today. |

The problem with us is we don't like taking 6 points off anyone. We won at Middlesbrough and Cardiff for example and then lost both return home fixtures so as we won at Preston don't hold your breath about us completing any double. Even today we had the chance of taking 6 points off Hull for the season but were brushed aside. |

I thought our win at Leicester was one of the results of the season but them losing to Millwall and Plymouth in a week has diminished our triumph. Still we did get our win away which is generally harder to do when playing a team at the top so I think our result still tops their home wins over Leicester. Plymouth should be OK now as they easily have the best GD so I will be surprised if they drop now. I had started off watching Greenock Morton on BBC Scotland but as they were making fools of themselves I soon turned over to the Plymouth game. Something very familiar about a team in blue and white hoops looking rubbish on TV. |

To be fair Argyle were scoring plenty of goals like this in their home games until Schumacher left and the new manager came in. Then the goals stopped and the manager lost his job. |

Looking at the run in it appears Millwall have the best fixtures with three games against teams with nothing to play for. Sheffield Wednesday could survive with a final day game at Sunderland particularly if Sunderland play like they did against us. No wonder West Brom are 10 unbeaten looking at another joke decision in their favour. I am fairly envious seeing teams like Swansea win 3-0 and Bristol City 5-0 against our relegation rivals. If only we could have done that in our relegation 6 pointers. Other teams can cruise through games unlike us. I read somewhere that Plymouth hadn't scored at home for 550 minutes so no surprise we handed them a goal to end the run. We can always be counted on to help other teams first before helping ourselves. |

Adomah was a surprising sub in view of his lack of recent game time. When I used to play I was always taught that if you are at the back post you should never assume that all the players in the middle will make contact with the ball when crossed in. Always be prepared they all miss it and be ready to react. Sadly Adomah didn't seem to have this in mind as he was caught on his heels unprepared. His slow reaction might be down to lack of game time as much as age. |

The recurring theme all the time is we miss most chances we do get so while we only have one goal leads to cling onto, extra pressure falls onto the defence and one huge clanger like tonight proves costly. This is what comes from not making the game safe and then nerves and pressure builds in the last quarter of the game. Another relegation battle and another we didn't win and a record of 6 games against teams who came up from league 1 with no wins and only two goals scored. Looks like the teams trying to go up are also turning jittery. Can't believe Leicester lost to Millwall, Leeds failed to beat on the beach Sunderland at home, and Norwich blew a two goal lead late on in Sheffield. |

I don't get angry watching other teams but watching our lot does my head in and puts me in a foul mood when they bore me with the lack of goalmouth action and scraping wins if we are lucky. Trouble is I was spoilt for decades with entertaining QPR sides but this Millennium keeps on delivering new lows for incompetence and drudgery. Of course much of it is down to money wrecking any competition so the days of the 70's and 80's have gone for good for us smaller clubs. |

Well we blew it yesterday as a win would have put us 10 clear of Wednesday. They would never make up that deficit in 5 games which would have meant they and Rotherham definitely couldn't catch us so only one other club for us to finish above. Four points with 5 to play gives the Owls the chance to catch us. It has rightly been pointed out on here that our recent record at Plymouth is dire. Until two months ago Plymouth were averaging three goals per home game, something we can only fantasise about. Let's hope they don't rediscover their scoring boots Tuesday. Some of the optimism about our chances of a win seems similar to the Armada approaching Plymouth greatly underestimating the opposition. I do hope we won't flounder on the rocks like they did... |

Swansea should be OK as they have a 3 point home gimme to come against Rotherham and Birmingham should also claim 3 points off Rotherham when they meet. The key to it is how many games a side faces against teams on the Beach in the remaining fixtures. |
| Forum Reply | More VAR shenanigans at 19:29 7 Apr 2024
Maybe. But the Forest victim waved an imaginary card which is a bookable offence. As he already had a yellow card then he too would have to receive a red with Maddison if VAR studied it. All handbags nonsense so better to continue 11 v 11 than 10 v 10. |

We lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday who have been in the bottom 3 all season so it is not an over reaction. This is not a one off with us as we regularly lose to teams at the bottom and many are sick of it. Up in Sheffield when a goal up, had we won we would have gone 10 points clear of them. Yesterday we had a second opportunity to go 10 points ahead of them and blew it again. There is no way Sheffield would have caught us 10 points adrift with 5 games to play. Now it is just 4 points they could still catch us. I know we could put it right at Plymouth but as I have said elsewhere, Plymouth know they have to beat us as Wednesday and Huddersfield are right behind them and they have to face Leicester next Saturday. That is their motivation plus they possess a player with 20 goals to his name. Where is our goal threat? Five games this season against teams who came up from league 1 last season has produced no wins and only one goal scored, and we lost that anyway. We have dropped 13 points out of 15 against Wednesday, Ipswich and Plymouth so I am not holding my breath that we will get 3 points at Home Park. I appreciate we have won four of the last six away games, and it really should have been five at Sunderland, so people are confident of winning at Plymouth but a lot hinges on who scores first. The game we lost at Stoke seems to be because we conceded first so that is key to Tuesday night. |

The other difference between Wednesday and us was the ability to see out a game. They looked comfortable once they got in front and did a professional job closing out the game. Up at Hillsborough we were one up going into the last 10 minutes and conceded a late equaliser and instead of settling for the point we took some risks and paid for it in stoppage time when they got the winner after we started faffing about. |
| Forum Reply | The curse of a full house at Loftus Road - Reason ?? at 23:59 6 Apr 2024
While our support has been good so too has the opposition's. Clubs like Coventry, Sunderland, Plymouth, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Luton, Watford have come in good numbers and made plenty of noise in the last two seasons. Some of those games we barely had a shot on goal as if our players are too afraid to go near the away end. I am just fed up of constantly seeing the away fans having a great day out at our expense as we slump to yet another defeat. It is happening far too often and I dare say the Leeds game will be another for us to watch Leeds players and fans celebrating a win to clinch auto promotion. I dare say money and wages does play a part but I think we just bring in rejects from elsewhere and there is a reason why other clubs get rid as their attitudes and ability are not up to scratch. We look so easy to play against at Loftus Road whereas away we seem more organised and solid and our away support is more constant for noise and the opposition fans are a bit quieter when at home and also more likely to get on their teams backs.
