He said in an interview a few weeks ago that he, Steve Cook and Jimmy Dunne have a 'coffee club' where they regularly meet up after training. Interesting. I guess it could be a coincidence the offensive play of our full backs, especially at corners, has increased since Andersen arrived but I'm guessing it isn't. That said, I agree he didn't play well yesterday. And, based on his body language, he felt the same way. Still he gives us what Dozzell and possibly Amos, we're supposed to provide but never could. That important passing link from mid-field forward. [Post edited 21 Apr 21:21]

I mentioned what, to me, is the bizarre criticism of Andersen on another thread yesterday. To briefly recap. Our strikers don't score many goals. Our best two forwards, Chair and Willock, are reactive players, essentially runners with a ball at their feet. They don't create space for others because, all to frequently, no one can read where they're going. Andersen, OTOH, is a forward focussed creative hold up player who's always looking for a space to pass to. Consequently we're more of a threat from corners and dead ball situations because of him. Sure he's probably past his prime, and can't do ninety minutes anymore but, to reiterate, no one else in the current squad does what he can. Booting him out the door unless we're certain we've found someone who can replace him is nutsy cuckoo. [Post edited 21 Apr 17:33]

Be nice, before we got rid of him, to find someone who can cross a ball as well he can. It's not long ago we were bewailing the fact we had no one who could do that. He can. He also makes a lot space in the offensive zone with his vision and control. Sure he's getting on in years, and this division is probably step up for him too. Nevertheless he, or somebody with similar tools, will be sorely needed next season. Be crazy/mad to cut him lose after the last couple of games. |

Paul Smyth is a conundrum! He is by far the most likely of our players to arrive in a threatening positon, but he has probably had more chances this season than any other & seldom looks like scoring! He's always been like that though. His feet move faster than his brain. Sure he was better with Orient two divisions down, but that's because the opposition gave him more opportunity. Defenders cover far more astutely and much quicker at this level. I've always been a fan of his and was sorry when he left. But he's not a kid anymore, and I wonder if he's ever going to be able to find the finish that would make him really dangerous to defend against. |

What exactly is wrong with Rayan Kolli? He's a striker, but been injured/unavailable for most of the season, and so far as I know there have been infrequent, or no updates at all, on his condition. |

Only Andersen seems to be in the game tonight. Smyth is doing his best, but his best includes no finish at all in front of goal. Fortunately Plymouth are no better. Everyone is uncomfortably nervy out there. [Post edited 9 Apr 20:40]

The lad's opinion of the ref was polar opposite to most of our fans. Goes to show how subjective views on officiating can be. |

Yeah, moi aussi. Perhaps his most commanding performance for us? Swansea kept pumping high crosses in, which plays to his strengths I think. But even so, apart from that weird shot that hit the post/bar he didn't do much to worry us today. |

We need more goal production, but if all you've got is what we have then you make do. Precisely. Marti recognised this from day one. And has (partially) solved it by using defenders at offensive dead ball situations. We've seen three goals in the past two matches scored that way, but he's been sending Cook, Cannon, Jimmy D, Paal and others upfield since he arrived. The "strikers" run interference near goal for the backs who lurk on the periphery of the box. It's not an optimal solution but it's worked, especially since we now have Andersen who can who can loft a ball into the area with precision. He's made a massive difference. [Post edited 1 Apr 18:55]

I concur. And, if a replacement were needed, Larkeche has looked up for it. We've greater issues than left back, most at the other end of the pitch and between the sticks. |
