Man of the Match - Bright Osayi-Samual
at 13:44 20 Jan 2020

Agreed. Nice and solid, made some good interventions and generally used the ball well. He has had his critics, but nice to see a good performance getting recognised. In a world where we generally accept that every player we sign will involve some sort of compromise, it would be great if he could prove to be one of the success stories.

According to the Leeds fan i work with.....
at 12:23 20 Jan 2020

I went with a couple of (respectful) Leeds fans who concluded that Leeds just didn't do enough and bemoaned their inability to convert their possession into clear cut chances. They also concluded that without another option up front they run the risk of throwing it away again. Clearly we were lucky with the goal and they felt that Rangers were the better side in the first half but overall they probably deserved a point. To be honest I couldn't argue with any of that.

Spoilt for choice in those days; Shilton, Clemence, Corrigan and Parkes - each of whom would have been the number 1 keeper for many countries in the mid 70s...

It wasn't intended to be patronising. I guess your comment "your point is?" could also have been taken in that way.

It is a board for opinions and that is mine, most will know me on this board as someone who doesn't intend to cause offence here so if I have I apologise.

I do get frustrated by a lot of the ignorant comments made by people who dismiss the club's activity as madness, without appreciating that there is probably a reason for them. That probably underpins my comment. For clarity I'm not calling your comment ignorant....

I think my point should be evident, but for clarity if Clarke comes so be it, assume it is part of a plan and that MW will be aware of other areas of the team that need strengthening.

I agree with this.

It always surprises me how many of our supporters (particularly on Twitter), think that signings being made are just a random transaction without any plan or strategy. Given how tough we know the financial position is and the sensible dealings to date of MW, it seems perfectly reasonable to me that he knows exactly what he is doing.

There is some nonsense on Twitter (usually from anonymous individuals) that MW should now go because we are getting Clarke and not a keeper or a Centre Half - truly astonishing. Others suggest he doesn't know our defence has problems - really?, if us relatively inexperienced football fans can see that I'm pretty sure someone more expert like MW (and his staff) will be only too aware of the challenges.

Maybe we are getting Clarke for free, because Warburton has a good reputation with younger players. Maybe it is a makeweight as part of a deal for Eze, Amos, both or neither.

Who knows?

All I do know is that from what I saw of Clarke at Leeds he looks like a very promising player with a lot of ability and he will be coming into an area of the team where currently we are fairly well covered. Hopefully things will all become clearer over the coming days/weeks/months....

Wallace or Manning?
at 14:38 13 Jan 2020

I think the OP raises a fair challenge and personally (without the benefit of hindsight) I would have started Wallace. That said, as Dave intimates, Wallace was poor at Barnsley and there were some who suggested he should never play for Rangers again....

I think that is a sensible point. The fact is Brentford are a better side than us right now. They have been deploying sensible player and recruitment strategies for a number of years and are reaping the rewards of that. We are now on a similar journey (hopefully)but are clearly are some way behind. The early signs from that vey promising but it will take time and it will need patience and there will be frustration along the way..

Personally I have no axe to grind with Brentford at all. Always struck me as a friendly enough, well run club and if they get their chance in the Premier League good luck to them.

I have been looking at trains for various dates and I think the problem is at the moment LNER haven't released that weekend yet. There are a load of track improvement works on the East Coast Main line so there are some weekends where you cant get into Kings Cross on that line (25th Jan and 29 Feb being two - the latter date screwing up a trip we had planned for Birmingham). Bizarrely though Grand Central do show the 4th April and right now (using Clive's suggestion of changing at York) you can get the 7.48 from Kings Cross to York and the 7.02 pm from York to London on Advance tickets for £32.

If you do take this option and have any time to kill at York, The York Tap accessed via platform 3, the side of the main entrance, lays on a fine range of real ales...

Bizarre game. Could have been 7-7. Rangers defended like a pub team and every time Barnsley attacked we looked worried. I dont think Lumley wasany worse than anyone else. The save from the deflection was excellent but the situation was created by a poor throw out. I do think we turned up thinking we would just roll them over. Positively if someone had offered me 6 points from 9 before Preston I'd have happily taken that.

Really good turn out on a miserable wet and cold day.
