This is all true. It's also that the Thierry Henry era coincided with the start of the huge demographic churn in London, so that swathes of people with no previous connection to this city saw them as the club to follow. It's quite interesting because historically Arsenal are the single most 'establishment' club in English football (marble halls, etc) but emerged from that era with a trendier, more internationalist feel.

Fan sites meeting with Christian Nourry

The idea that Matt Winton deserved to be invited to an event like this - one explicitly aimed at websites/forums/social media/etc - simply because his dad put money into the club 25 years ago is bonkers. You're just trying to find ways to justify it to suit your wider views of the current situation.

Is it the end of the world that he was invited along? Of course not. It does, however, raise eyebrows.

As stated previously, that area does not include Car Giant - which was removed from the OPDC's plans by a judge several years ago.

Tuck among 7 development squad releases
at 09:32 13 May 2026

Tuck being released is both a surprise and not a surprise. Surprising because he's always stood out; a lovely passer of the ball, plays with his head up, receives the ball on the turn, hardly ever takes more than two touches, keeps it ticking over. There's an awful lot to like about him, and deep-lying midfielders with his passing game are very hard to find. But it's not surprising because the knock on him has always been that he's very skinny even compared to his teammates never mind senior pros.

I know we've had a lot of 20-somethings hanging around past their sell by date in the past, and the DoF has publicly stated a cut off point for young players, but Tuck only just turned 20 and for me he'd be someone you'd be prepared to give some extra time to. But that's from the outside obviously. If I was at a local club like Barnet or Wealdstone, or going further afield one of the L2 clubs, I'd snap him up because I think there's real potential to develop and sell.

It does raise a couple of questions though. First, who is making these decisions, because the DoF has never kicked a football in his life. Second, Tuck has always been the stand out performer right the way through the age groups and into the DS, if he's deemed to not be good enough then it doesn't say much for the rest of them.

Same thing happened in RL when they introduced the video ref 20 years ago. It's understandable, even more so for the PL with it's extraordinary global profile, why put yourself in the firing line by making a decision when you know someone will be in your ear about it if it is a foul?

Glad I'm not the only one to find this odd. Presumably the guy's been training with the first team every day for the past 2 seasons, signed a new contract 18 months back, and yet he's continued to be listed on the website as part of the DS and not been allowed to get changed with the first team.

Afraid not, I don't listen to too many podcasts. Only if something in particular gets sent my way.

Do you ever go and watch Broncos these days? I stopped going when we moved overseas and haven't got back into it since returning.

Apparently Oledzki only qualifies for England through residency, not citizenship, despite growing up here. The vagaries of the international eligibility rules mean that a player who qualifies via that route loses his eligibility once he ceases to reside in said country. Meaning he might well not be able to play for England once he's moved to Australia. Add it to the list of bizarre outcomes in RL.

On your wider point, perhaps you're right. TBH I think the quality of player in this country is pretty low these days. Disco posted our pack from the 2003 Ashes earlier and that team would destroy the current England side.

I like Oledzki, but yes some of the others are so-so. You can however run a decent squad with a bunch of workmanlike players if - big if - you get your spine right. As I said, though, finding the big guns at 1/6/7/9 is likely to be where they struggle.

The Storm used to receive subsidies from central funds, but that hasn't been the case for a good few years now. They tick over just fine these days, I think they made a profit last year, and obviously a downturn in fortunes would impact that but I think they have a solid base these days. Rich owners too so I think they'll be fine.

The NRL really screwed up by installing Mal Meninga at Perth. Terrible coach who's been living off his (admittedly incredible) playing legacy. They've made some decent signings but lack a big name or two, and with the new PNG club offering tax-free contracts the Bears will likely end up picking from the leftovers. A bit like Canberra who also struggle to convince players to move there.

I still think there's a decent GK there but his development has been handled appallingly. Whether he can get over that, and the now-established opinions on him, is a huge question.

Mid to bottom of the Championship. Nourry will have recently moved on, probably working in a consultancy of some sort. Virtually none of the current squad will still be with us, two or three having been sold for decent money but the rest sold for buttons or released at the end of their contracts. Loftus Rd will have deteriorated. The owners will have announced a new plan.

Two possibilities; to pad out the player availability stats, and to show would-be purchasers that he's recovered from his injury. Same goes for Chair and Burrell.

Glad I wasn't the only one scratching my head at that half-time nonsense. Still not entirely sure I understand what it was all about, but is that what we are now - not a football club but some kind of content creation device?

You can ignore the drawings from the Michael Drain website, they stem from Briatore's ownership when they wanted to add lots of hospitality to the 'boutique' stadium. They are only relevant to this discussion in that in 2019 Calford Seaden took the work done previously and looked to see what they could do to Loftus Rd to increase the capacity.

I understand the scepticism, on the surface that scale of increase seems unlikely, but I don't understand what benefit there is to them to lie about their findings. They're not going to gain any work out of it once the lie was discovered, and they're a reputable firm who've worked on other football stadiums.

How many free U8s tickets are there? Say it's 500, you're looking at £30,000 in new revenue. Assuming, of course, that the adult they go with can afford (or is prepared to) pay for that on top of their own ticket.

Can only presume they think this waiting list they introduced is going to fill in any gaps. Either way, the returns don't seem great for the potential risk - certainly not for a club that is comfortable losing £2m a month.
