Many will hate me saying this, but... we played Championship football against a Premiership team. Hull were not that good, but when they strung passes together it showed that they were a Premiership team and, more so, a team that was ready to play as of Day 1. We, unfortunately, will take another few weeks before we can gel into a real Premiership team, as much as everyone is hyping us all up. The continuous pumping the ball up to our forwards with the rare ball down the wings just showed why our style requires significant refinement. Let's see what Spuds game produces; more of the same and we will not survive at all.

Was Jenas playing in the second half? I hardly ever heard his name and the one who was winning the tackles in the midfield was Mbia, not Jenas. I am a bit worried that he is a "Harry player" and thus will get to play no matter what. Townsend was MoM with Remy a close second. Bosingwa also played quite well and actually went in for some contested headers.

I find it fascinating that our feelings against Bosingwa are stopping him from being MoM in this match. Yes, Townsend played quite well, but our RB did a lot more, in attack, set plays and defence. Also don't forget he played a major part in Remy's goal. Are we going to see Taarabt again?

Agree fully with most of what has been said above. My two pence worth is the change after Zamora came on was because of his ability to get his head, or body, to ball sent downfield. I am sure that Clive will explain this better, but in the first half every goalkick or boot up forward was met by a Norwich head and whats more was that they got second ball as well and thus one of the reasons they began to pressure us after 15 minutes. Thus, with Zamora up there to put his head, and body, about, we were now participating in the play. Hence, the need for him to heal quickly from his hip surgery. I am not all that convinced about Fabio not playing LB, which is where he did so well before. Fabio is being used as a general fill-in person, but I am concerned it may affect him. I hope Onouha is back quickly. To MoM, I would actually want to give it to Townsend. In his first game, with only one practice under his belt and without playing with his new team-mates he seemed to play as if he had been here for quite some time. He will not be a saviour, but I think he will fit in well.. oh and he has some silky skills which were on show, and a powerful shot.

Fully agree with you cranieboy. One goal does not make a player. The team played much better than against Liverpool, but still gave away the ball in the midfield or in their own half too often. Granero played a lot better. But when SWP came on I though down to ten men for 75 minutes. I think that there should be an enquiry as to why Hoilett did his hamstring so early in the game. Either he did not warm up properly or someone stuffed up. This should not happen. BBC were saying Taraabt was MoM, but I felt Fabio did real well at LB while most of the others were solid.

Nice finish, great result and if it (a) turns the club around and (b) turns SWP around, then we all cannot be happier.

Not wanting to labour over any of the points already made here, there are some other interesting items that should be mentioned, if not gleaned from this match. First off, the ref was very poor, and that is basically hidden by our own pathetic display. I only counted three hand balls he chose to ignore and numerous other incidents where I felt he was wrong. Secondly, Granero was probably put on by HR as his last chance, which he, of course, blew. He could be one of the first to go and certainly there will be teams interested in him. There will be a loss to the club (remember he came in on £9m). Thirdly was the SWP situation. My guess, but I cannot read HR's mind, is that he really did not know what to do with this fool, or for that matter, who to replace him with. There cannot be any other answer as to why he was still on the park until the 80th minute. While the team itself was abjectly horrendous, SWP more than epitomised the state of the season and the self-nutmeg was the perfect exclamation point.

Yes, I too read of the potential £20m. Personally I would rather go looking for some youngsters and commence rebuilding. While I see everyone is praising HR, I will restate my belief that he is not the right man and that when he arrived it was too late - the team was already poisoned and any real chance of survival was pretty well extinguished. I really wonder if HR will want to manage in the Championship for a couple of seasons while we rebuild back to the Premiership?

Could not agree with you more Melaka, Fulham were absolute sh*te. It was only that we were in this predicament that they were even in with a sniff. Now that the monkey is off our back, there is a desperate need to consolidate. First stop is Newcastle.

And as one who is very much anti-SWP, he definitely had an above-average day for sure. Still a long way to go, but I will be the first to admit he wasn't all too bad. Good to see Ale play, but he needs more time on the field to get his mojo back. Overall a decent performance, but, as said above, nothing to get carried away with.

Mackie needs to get more fitness. He was running out of energy towards the end :-) Yes there was some more fight to the team, but really, what else could we expect. The problem, however, is not the inability to score, which we all know about but the slowness of the passing. This is what put me to sleep with the Sunderland game (and that was at 7 in the morning). Villa must have seen the midweek game as they new exactly what was happening and took advantage of it. Still do not like either Bosingwa or SWP, but today they had some good points. Taarabt was poor in the first half and I actually thought he may have been subbed at the break. Still, his one real effort towards the left corner post in the first half was something to remember. As we all asked with MH, what is the story with Ale? Finally, hope Mbia is okay.

I got to watch this from work. I must say I was starting to fall asleep at times. Our boys were playing the ball at an incredibly slow pace. When Sunderland woke up in the final few minutes we were punished for this. Cannot disagree with what has already been said.. we need someone to finish for us.

There was also a lot of walking around instead of chasing, ala Mackie. Why was SWP brought on instead of Hoilett? I also cannot understand why Mbia was moved to the midfield, even though he had a decent game there, when he was doing real well and enjoying himself at right back. Bosingwa again showed why he is incapable of playing at this level, unable to win any balls (did he not watch the game last week?).

For those of you who are baying for the gaffer's head, we have missed our chance of one interesting option as a replacement. Ollie was just picked up by Palace. Now, I wonder how he would go with this lot? Haven't had a chance to see the game yet, so won't comment until then. Only good news was that SWP was on the bench throughout.
