Reading v QPR moved by Sky, Bailey joins Grays

Rangers’ trip to Reading has been moved to an evening kick off by Sky, meanwhile young midfielder Stefan Bailey has joined Grays Athletic.

Personally I thought one of our first two away games would definitely be picked up by Sky Sports but it seems Rangers fans will now have to wait until the middle of October to see the boys on the big screen, unless our League Cup game with Swindon is selected for coverage.

The eagerly anticipated fixture at the Madejski Stadium will still take place on Saturday October 25 but will now kick off at 5.20pm instead of 3pm. QPR last played Reading three seasons ago as the Royals beat us 2-1 twice on their way to the Premier League. The season before that Sky covered this fixture and the R’s were unlucky 1-0 losers in a dire game that saw Jamie Cureton sent off for fighting after a Reading player had called to him to leave a through ball.

Meanwhile young midfielder Stefan Bailey, who has known for sometime that his contract would not be renewed this summer, has signed for Conference outfit Grays Athletic on a free transfer. Bailey showed glimpses of real talent during his time with QPR, particularly away from home where his tough, no nonsense approach won him man of the match plaudits at Cardiff and Luton the season before last. Sadly his passing game never even came close to the standard required for Championship football and his departure this summer after almost an entire season away from the first team picture was inevitable and he spent time on loan at Oxford United last season.

Bailey made 22 appearances for Rangers and will probably be best remembered for his sending off, and reaction to the decision, in an FA Cup defeat at Luton Town in January 2007. Still some of the tackles he put in were often worth the admission fee alone and he could never be accused of not giving it his all.

I’m a little surprised to see him dropping out of the league altogether, I certainly feel he could play League Two football comfortably, but everybody at LFW wishes him all the best as always.
