Is it just me or does anyone else think our front line is not strong enough to push on for the remainder of the season, whilst I love the effort of Donnelly and cummins they are lacking the class to be truly consistent and don't offer us enough of a change when coming on as subs. I just feel we are one or two players away from the automatic slots and time is going to tell? Is it just me ? |  | | |  |

Cummins for me looks to be improving still. Getting better with more time on the pitch.
George is George. He is Gorgeous and we know what we are getting. Hustle bustle pace strong - off his knee - tries a trick - looks a dick - tries another - puts sides in bother.
Hillys trump card is using the above as suits and then what we have around the top 2 is frightening
Hogan - Vincenti - Henderson and Allen the pick picking up and buzzing around the top 2.
Then we have something different in Bunney.
Then we have Lund possibly the finest under the Radar central midfielder in league 2.
Oh - Kennedys back.
And bar free scoring Fleetwood we are scoring more goals than anybody in the division.

Conceded the 2nd highest of the teams in the top 10 though....probably makes for a better focus in the transfer market. |  | | |

Chesterfield are joint leading scorers now also on 44.

Half of our goals conceeded have come in 6 games.
Pompey away (froze?) - 0-3
Daggers away - 1-3
Chesterfield 2-2, 2-2
Scunny 0-4, 0-3
I know most sides could do similiar and say "if it wasn't for those few games" but to me the defence is pretty solid, with the odd exception where we are chasing the game, we have player(s) sent off or up against the very best in the division. Sometimes all 3 in one such as Scunny at hime.
We've started to keep more clean sheets of late too, 4 out of 6 games, the other two being Scunny and Chesterfield away.
I'm not expecting much in/out movement over the next 2 days, in fact I'm hoping there is next to none. |  |

Regarding the original poster. I wouldn't get too hung up about the necessity of a specialised central striker. As you've probably noticed, we play very fluid possession football. The attributes required to being in Dale's forward line and midfield this season is movement, the ability to move the ball quickly and pressing high up the pitch. A 'specialised' striker would rigidify our play. We're at our worse when we try playing to a central striker. We are at our best, and more dangerous, when we're playing 'total' football, that is, the team play with relatively fluid positions. Hogan, Donnelly, Vincenti and Hendo permanently interchanging central and wide positions. I think Hilly looks for the above attributes and levels of fitness first and foremost - Hendo a classic example - as opposed to you're a central striker and that's it. | |
