I 100% get the frustration that some feel. Equally i don't blame you if you feel this way.
We are 7th and have sold our top scorer to the team directly above us. Tonight is a night for frustrations released, it's not like we are not used to it.
I'm fortunately not in that camp but i have been previously and have blown a gasket on here. The fact that i can't remember which player it was about probably explains why i am not doing so now.
Only an Oldham director would not understand frustrations tonight.

Its not the selling a player that annoys many its the timing thats ridiculous, from the outside it just lacks any ambition from the club when you sell your only player who is genuinly of a higher standard this season to a team in the mix with you. I agree we do have to sell and yes its happened many times before but when clubs are selling goal scoring forwards for ridiculous amounts of money we do appear to pull our pants down very early in the fee agreement process. | | | |

Don't know how to take the happenings at gigg tbh, I only go for the footy, under Fenton we had virtually gone ti ts up, so no knight in shining armour, no club, I read the club accounts on sat morning en route to burton but was more interested in the free flowing jaegers, if the reports that we refused big money for mayor are true and we are in that kind of debt, SD Is crazy or mega confident in what he's doing,good or bad, I asked him on Saturday how would the pitch get sorted if the concert weekend goes ahead, he said no worries it will be done, I nearly choked on my prosecco | |

Unfortunately, in a lot of people's minds they aren't replacements unless they are signed straight after the sale, in a panic, at a premium.
The accusations of a lack of ambition are mind-boggling. I would say buying our own stadium shows ambition. Ambition doesn't relate purely to the playing staff.

Without player sales over the past half a dozen seasons and the cup runs during the past two seasons we would not be in the financial or league position we are in now.
Before Le Fondre was sold we were facing a winding up order by HMRC. If the club was run how some on here want we would be in financial meltdown due to unhappy players running down their contracts leaving on frees and expensive signings being paid unaffordable wages.

I think the ball got rolling after MK Franchise put a speculative offer in a few weeks ago. That would have alerted other clubs on the lookout for a player of Matty Done's quality.
It's a bit of round robin when you look at the other transfers that occurred. Doyle to Cardiff (reportedly £1m for a 26 year old leading league goalscorer), Alli to Spurs for £5m. Then throw in the mix the loan signings that will be happening over the next few weeks and it should all even out.
Let's be honest, Sheffield Utd are a borderline Premiership / Championship club, along with Leeds, Nottingham Forest and maybe Bradford. We are punching above our weight but doing all right at it although the points spread across the division from 21st place Colchester on 28 points to 5th placed Chesterfield on 39 points means we can't have a wobble like we did in mid November - mid December (Port Vale, Doncaster, Oldham, Notts Cheaty).
Fair play to Matty Done. I hope it shows to the others what hard work and playing with a genuine enthusiasm can reward you with. Some of his play this season has been sublime and it looks like his style of play has influenced the others around him (Calvin's charge down on the keeper v Crawley / Hendo running square against the line before the through ball is played).
I hope he plays against us later this month and gets a good reception but I hope he doesn't tear us apart. Thanks for the memories Matty. [Post edited 3 Feb 2015 11:36]

Over the last 7-8 months the club has benefited from two outstanding player sales, a youth team player sale, cash from the Lambert to Liverpool deal and a 4th round cup run. Probably £1.5m - £1.8m of income over and above TV money and income from attendances. Well done KH .
We are now in a position to buy our own ground and perhaps start to develop a training ground which will help to cement the future of the club in the long term.
A clear message has been sent out to young players and their parents : "come to Rochdale and you will get opportunities and when the time is right a move to a bigger club"

As supporters we become attached to the heroes of the day but the cold hard fact is that selling players is what we do. The quality of what we have to sell depends on the size of the funnel down which they progress. I simple terms the more players we sell, the more we can afford to take on youth players and broken toys, the more of them we develop or fix, the better we can make the facilities. This is known as organic growth, it is sustainable, profitable and means that when the shit hits the fan there is also money in the bank to help with the re-decoration.
Owning our own stadium also means that we have an asset that we can borrow against should an opportunity present itself which adds other dimensions to the direction in which the club can develop eg. building conference facilities at the club or refurbishing the boxes in the main stand.
Or we could spend it all on salaries and transfer fees and maybe have nothing to show for it. I know which option I prefer. |  | | |

This is the bogeyman post.
Don't sell and end up like Stockport. Spend money and be a (potential) Bury. There is no inbetween. If you cross the road then you'll either be run over by a bus or fall down a manhole.
What happened with Le Fondre et. al. has nothing to do with the selling of Done. We don't have a huge tax bill to pay. He had 18 months left on his contract. We don't spend money (we cannot afford). We have cash in the bank. We are in a great position and you can be almost sure this transfer fee will be lower than it should be. This is one transfer where add-ons are a real danger because there's no guarantee he'll be a success there. Dawson, Buckley, Lambert were always going to further their careers. I'm not convinced that Done has moved to the best club for that. Done didn't need to be sold. If his season had continued he'd be worth more in the Summer, and had his leg fallen off in the meanwhile then that is life. | | | |

....Matt Done was back at Spotland today, obviously to say good-bye to people and collect stuff. There will be an interview with him later on the OS.
