Not for us, but for Bury.
i was credit checking a potential customer and decided to nosey onto
BFC's file and was (or maybe not) supprised to see a new CCJ for circa £22k lodged
only Wednesday this week.
looks like they are in need of a bumper crowd tomorrow to settle some bills

Fancy selling tickets for Saturday before they'd even announced a decision on their future?
Fancy arranging for fans to clean a stadium on the day an announcement was being made - why not wait till today?
Seems a typical bury thing to do - blase till the end.

Perhaps they thought a billionaire philanthropist would be inspired by The Buckets with their buckets and buy the club like some football fairy tale.

There's no room for sentiment in football, so we are told. However I'm momentarily sad that a local rival has gone to the wall but that's about where my empathy starts and ends.

As with others, it's always more fun beating your local rivals and having the bragging rights. If they're not in the same division we laugh at them but would relish playing them again more.

Personal favorite memory/memories were the two 0-1 away wins at Gigg Lane in '94. End of one season and beginning of the next. Hard to believe Dale & Bury had only played each other competitively 30 times before that as the rivalry seemed so fierce. Happy days!

The legal entity remains so full refunds for any tickets purchased for a now expunged game should be refunded.

I think that’s the key thing here. Club’s normally disappear from the league when they fold but Bury have actually been kicked out, so therefore they still exist, they just have no league to play in.

What actually happens to them now, from a financial point of view, is beyond my level of expertise but you would have to assume folding the club and starting over is the only viable option to ensure the town has a chance of competing in professional football again one day.

With no Efl place, funding, TV money or time pressures maybe a sale can now take place? Dale might have to take less money for the club but this could give a new owner a chance to try to sort out the mess and then start again in the lower leagues next season.

Most of the coverage lacks the accountability aspect and the blame is elsewhere! They should act as a cautionary tale to other clubs and their supporters.

They have two options:

1. Rescue the current company. This involves paying the CVA (£1.6m), secured creditors (£1.0) and dealing with a mortgaged ground but no cash incoming to pay the mortgage (£3.7m). Having done all that they would then need to buy out Steve Dale.

2. Start a new company. This avoids all of the issues in 1. and having to deal with them but they have no ground.

The EFL indicated they would support an application to a League lower down so assuming they can do something as a Group they would succeed with either option.

1. leaves Grizzly holding the baby but they'd likely never play in Gigg Lane again.

2. involves some coordinated action and leadership from their fans which has, in the main, been lacking throughout.

Thanks. So option 2 seems the more straightforward but perhaps with financial backing and leadership from a third party, rather than solely leaving it to a directionless group of supporters.

Then there would be a ground to source.

From what you say, it’s still by no means a straightforward process from here on in.

Two possible out comes now for Bury FC.
One is the club will be sold but due to their lack of a league status their club value as plumbed down to almost nothing..

Another outcome is liquidation.

It will be one or the other.....

It is a sad day when a club goes to the wall and the fact it is our fiercest rivals makes it even more so. I know many Dale (Rochdale) fans will be laughing, but it could so easily have been us at another time.

On the other hand bury fans have, in the main, wanted their cake and eat it. Most football fans with any knowledge knew it would end in tears when SD was at the helm and splashing cash he didn`t have, to buy promotion.

Bury fans were lapping it up and giving it large saying "Championship here we come." It was a disaster waiting to happen and it was so obvious to most of us that their plan was unsustainable. Now it has turned pear shaped they point the finger of blame elsewhere instead of firmly on their own door step.

The fans did and said nothing when all this cash was being thrown around. They were bleating on about their new stadium being built and having their opening game in it, in the championship. They should have been asking where all this money was coming from and demanded to see the books. They did and said nothing.

They signed big names on big, long contracts in order to buy promotion, but the fans stood by and did and said nothing. Relegation followed and it was obvious the big name players were just using bury as a cash cow and weren`t giving their all. Most fans stood by and said nothing.

I have many friends who are bury fans and for them I feel gutted. For the ones who lapped up promotion, the spending and the dreams of a new stadium I say, "You reap what you sow!"

I cant see them continuing. They need to rid themselves of Dale and the debt and the only way is folding completely and starting afresh. Sentiment aside for them they'd be better off without Gigg Lane too - obviously lots of memories there for them but it's an awful stadium commercially with regards to corporate facilities on a matchday. If they can get fresh backing and start anew I'm sure that is the route they'll go for. The hard work starts now but as AFC Wimbledon and a few others have shown it is possible.

The best option for the supporters would be to walk away from any carcass of what's left and start up a phoenix club. It will be hard work but with the right leadership of fans could become something so much better than the car crash they have been for the last 20 years. There's no doubt Gigg Lane will become an housing development or similar regardless of what Bury Council state as there are certainly ways around getting their way. You only need to look at recent housing developments here in Rochdale that were initially turned down for planning permission but by passed and given the go ahead from central government. The supporters need to put a line through anything from the past and concentrate on the future of a reformed club for Bury.

Here's what C&N Sporting Risk's Rory Campbell and Henry Newman had to say, after they pulled out of their deal to takeover Bury last night.

"We realised there were more and more complexities over a longer period time," Campbell said.

"A number of areas — an example would be the stadium — there are a number of charges on the stadium as well as leases, which after we were granted the relevant documents it opened up a web of problems in terms of the long term sustainability of the stadium as a whole.

"It was not specifically around the cost — now is not the time to get into commercial matters — but it was the asset of the stadium, which we were looking into. Publicly you can see there are charges and leases which mean the overall ownership of the ground would have been much more difficult."

Totally agree with your sentiments Ken. I think this is a tragedy not only for the supporters and town of Bury, but for Lancashire and football in general. Sure we love to take the piss out of each other on derby days, sing silly songs about our respective towns, but they are the highlights of the season, bigger than average crowds, each hoping for bragging rights till the next time we meet.
The EFL do have to shoulder a lot of the blame, obviously their character assessments,or whatever they call it,has failed badly here as it has at many other clubs and this should be a watershed case to make sure the likes of Dale and Day never have the chance of sucking the blood out of other vulnerable clubs who live on shoestring budgets,Dale are one of them.
I`ve seen many games at Bury,as I`m sure many people on here will have, saw them in the Second Division in the Sixties when they had a good side,Bob Stokoe as manager,me and my dad going on the bus. Saw Newcastle beat them 7-2,saw Brian Clough play his last game for Middlesbrough when he did his knee crashing into Chris Harker who later helped Dale to promotion. Saw great players like Colin Bell,Alex Lindsay and potentially the best of them all,Jimmy Kerr,a Scots lad who sadly had to give the game away at just 19 years of age.
A few on here will love the fact that Bury are now history, but parochialism apart, they will be missed, twice this year and into the future,no more derby matches-ever. Football in Lancashire will be for the worse for their demise.

I agree with that Dave. I saw all the three players you mentioned, all absolutely top players. Jimmy Kerr having to call it a day so young was a real shame. Some great memories of going to Gigg Lane watching various teams including Hornets when Swinton played there.

I'd agree 100% with that DDB.

Their problem is if they ever want to be a League club again.

The standards to qualify as a League ground keep being raised - mainly as a blocker to non-league clubs, but with an excuse of raising standards.

If they start in Level 6 or Level 7 at a non-league standard ground, should they ever get back to League 2 they’d have to put a lot of money into a facility.

AFC Wimbledon shared an existing ground and improved it. Salford have Peter Lim.

The ground is mired in this fraud of leasing and borrowing money - so will be unusable for a tenant or another purpose for a long period of time - perhaps years.

3. Do nothing

Maybe the appetite isn’t there or will not be there in a few weeks.

Then bury is just a town with no football club bearing its name.

Sad day but one that’s been coming for quite a while.

Dave Giffard of Forever bury just interviewed by Sally Nugent. They are looking at whether they can appeal the decision.

Also, when Nugent asked about the real estate value of Gigg, she was told that, for building to be permitted at Gigg, there has to be a replacement stadium built elsewhere. Presumably this would still 'belong' to the legal entity bury fc, (or in reality the mortgage chargeholder) and not for any breakaway operation.

The man looked totally broken tbf.

another spin on this whole episode:

Dale never wanted to sell, and wants to liquidate. C&N where a delaying tactic, but also their Due Diligence was the final nail in the coffin and that was the aim. The EFL shared these findings with the new bidders last night, all reviewed, raised their eyebrows and closed the cheque books.

bury fans just cannot or are refusing to see that the finances are stuffed, and they are not a going concern. any other non-football business would have folded ages ago
