This is not the time for bickering.

That list brings a tear to my eyes too and I'm not even a Rochdale lad!
Some fabulous boozers on that list, 3 that stand out for me are The Church, great pub never seen any bother in there. The Castle , had a good mate who lived by the Clog & Shawl ( Sudden?? ) and he used to take us there, seemed a classy place. The Craven Heifer, Timothy Taylors, top quality scran and so warm and friendly. Such a shame.
The Reed is ( was? ) a top pub.... surely the closure is only a temporary thing? Here's hoping.

Walking through the town today I noticed " The Reed " was shut up from today with a sign on the door saying closed until further notice.

Where's the Stasi when you need them?
Should not happen anyway, but certainly not in the town centre.
Law abiding WOMAN fgs getting assaulted going about her everyday business and the law enforcement agencies are probably giving little old ladies littering notices for dropping crumbs off their Gregg's pasties!
Grrrrrrrr!!

Is that the one on Bury Road? That should never close given the number of houses around it.

Didn't Frank Williams go onto run a pub on Durham Street whose name escapes me?

Our usual Sat night pub crawl consisted off..

The Queens (closed)
The Navigation (closed)
The Citizen (closed)
Dick Whittingtons (closed)
The Star (closed)
The Drake (closed)
The Wine Lodge (moved?)
The Spread Eagle (closed)

If you timed it right you missed the fight in the Dick Whitts LOL
Are all these boozers closed because you dont drink as much now ;-) ?
TBF most pubs shut now because of cheap supermarket alcohol and a change in social interaction. Very sad indictment on society really .
Ah well we all have our fond memories of growing up , I pity the youth of today.

Just had a quick look at the E&C and it seems to be a service/ quality issue, though closing the place down seems a little extreme.
Been here often and ( usually ) been very happy with it all.
It did close and indeed was tinned a up a few years back but reopened and I'm sure it will again, there must be a few quid around the area going spare so if someone could work out what the locals want there must be a good future for the place?

The E&C used to be THE place to go, packed out with something for everyone before the change in it's internal structure

It had character, something that you can't put a price on. The stone floor in the bar area was offset by cosy nooks and crannies elsewhere. Then some corporate fool made it into a soulless open-plan boring overpriced food hole...

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

Crikey, the top five news stories listed at the bottom of the on line story were all about violent attacks on people. Is it that bad back home?

One thing about " The Baum " the prices keep the knob heads out most of the time.

George and Dragon in Castleton was also the place to go. Long gone now but someone living there.

Born and bred in Cassy but hardly went in there, not the cheapest.
My mum and dad went in with their friends on a Saturday night....think my dad would have preferred to be in the New Inn, his local, but not my mum's choice!

Back in the late 60s and 70s I spent most of my time in the Church Inn or Blue Pits (still going)

Happy days.
