As a lifelong Rochdale fan hearing news the of the new FM18 - guess who you start a game with - the mighty dale.
I know this isn't everyones cup of tea & thats all good.
My gaming channel has just started the Rochdale save to try & finally win a trophy at spotland.
You can follow my journey below - any tactical advice or potential signing advice appreciated.I'd love to get a few of the dale community involved, interviews, advice etc...

TBH you have made me go and get this myself, havent played in a few years and it seems my managerial skills are lacking. Any tips on signings and formations for the dale? I'll give the vids a quick watch when I get chance too.

Thats awesome mate11 to be honest i should be asking you the same question formations & tactics - im just finding my way trying things out - 4231 has worked pretty good the last few years on the game - let me know how you get on mate

In 2017 I always signed Steven Mallen, Lewis Vaughan and Jai Quintago because I rated them in real life and Carlton Cole and Aaron wilbraham because they did a good job on frees. Always sold caravan lillis and mcnulty, and played 4 5 1 with 2 wide mids and a support striker. Not played new one yet so may be different. Also I always got more coaches than board really wanted as long term works well.

Is Adshead still young to be included? He's 16 now isn't he, he might not be a 1st year scholar but thought he might be considered good enough to be included.
Everything else seems fair, even if our squad is frustratingly poor compared to recent years (reflecting real life..)
It's a nightmare not having an U23s squad though - I know we don't play in an u23 league but we do have bounce games occasionally and it's doing my head in having all of the players on one screen!

I dunno - most other teams seem to have them. Blackburn have them, Bury even have them! (edit: u23 teams, that is)
Nightmare about Adshead. They've trotted out the whole child protection thing in the past but the fact is that he's 16 now so why does it matter what age he was at the cut off point.

Reading through this thread, it would appear that football management isn't perhaps as easy as some might make it out to be, if this is even remotely true to life. We all know how Didds would have responded to that!

Lost the first 3 league fixtures including a 7-0 drumming to Shrewsbury!
In desperate need of advice, cant seem to find any one to bring in whos actually any better and my tactics obviously dont work.
Problem is by now most of the decent players will have been snapped up! I signed Kelvin Wilson, Ryan Taylor and Leon Best on frees, as well as Tosin Adarabioyo and Phil Foden from City on loan.
I find with my tactics I'll have a 5 or 6 game purple patch and then it stops working. I've used 4-4-2, 4-3-1-2(narrow), 4 3 3 and a few other less orthadox one. I came 11th in my 1st season and I'm 9th after 24 games in my second season (I've had a week off work!!)

Also unbelievably I've just signed Josh Morris from Scunny (joins in Jan) for Zero pounds! Yes that's right they've let him go for NOTHING and that's prolly my all time best signing ever in this game cos his wages aren't too much either.
Other decent-ish signings were Wes Burns from Fleetwood off the TL and I got him for 70k and a midfielder Adnan Maric from Swansea again on the TL and pretty cheap. Steve Davies has a really high injury rating so I got rid of him for 210k which helped fund the above 2 signings
