Recently OAP disposable income has overtaken that of younger working people. This is due to generous company pension schemes started in the sixties and seventies. And also due to home ownership amongst the older generation.
Perhaps giving discounts based upon age should be stopped or perhaps transferred to young adults up to the age of 25 [Post edited 17 Jun 2018 20:33]

It's debtable then whether my dad should buy an adult season ticket at £200 yet save less than an adult who could be earning a wage.. Or if it would work out better for him to pay on gate at each match. Obviously adults savings would be greater as they pay £20 per game and an oap I think paid £12 or £14 who h would be a much less saving for a pensioner who doesn't work |  | | |

What about the unemployed adult? What about those on low incomes? What about families with three adult kids living at home who don’t work yet their parents do?
It’s impossible to find a solution that suits everyone, but these prices are excellent and anyone who thinks they’re good value (they are), can afford it and wants to go will surely buy one. If they don’t because others are perceived to be getting a better deal, it’s hard to understand (not saying this is the case in any posts in this thread).
Football clubs will always have the upper hand and use the “fans always moan” when given the opportunity. We need to try and not give them the chance. |  |

Agree with this. Like with the country ticket, there'll always be someone who lives 49 miles away and someone who lives 51. You can't please all of the people all of the time. The club have put out a very good vfm package but if it doesn't suit some, they can make the best of it or find the best alternative that does. Traditionally ticket prices in the UK have been segregated by age group. When I lived in China some tickets were based on height !!
Might be worth a try although in China a tall kid could end up paying full price so it has some flaws

My point is really that affordability issues stretch right across the age spectrum. Those with mortgages and growing families are arguably less well-positioned to pay standard matchday prices; similarly those trying to save for a deposit on a house or having a lowish income taken up by rent
In short, OAPs can no longer be exclusively considered as less able to afford to go to games

Prices haven't been 'put up for old folk'.
Before the first home game of last season, an adult season ticket was £250 for anywhere in the ground.

Where did the earlier poster assume ALL OAPs had company pension schemes and were homeowners? He was speaking generally, rather than specifically.
Certainly, several of the OAPs I know who watch Dale are a damned sight more well off than people I know who aren't OAPs. | |
